Classification: Heavy Cruiser/Guided Missile Cruiser

Armament: 12
Defenses: 9

Hangar: N/A

Special Features:
Maneuverability Rating: 16
Speed Rating: 11
Hyperdrive Class: 2

Strengths:

  • Extensive Area of Effect: The Imperium is very proficient in providing fire to a large area with heavy effect. The Imperium is especially designed to provide as much ordnance as possible to a designated target(s).
  • Heavy Support Vessel: This cruiser class is an adept support vessel. Not only can it provide long range fire, but it can also serve as a planetary bombardment, and an anti-space station craft.
  • Cache Efficient: The internal structure has been built for max efficiency in storing ammunitions, and other logistics. At the cost of armor and hull width, more ordnance storage has been installed.
Weaknesses:

  • Non-Versatile Vessel: The Imperium is heavily based on projectile launch and barrage over close and mid range skirmishes. It is not intended to be alone as it is completely a support vessel and is intended only to be in support of other vessels, or requires an escort.
  • Feeble Aegis: In the ship's design certain sacrifices had to be made to allow the necessary space for the extensive amount of missile launchers. The defense system was skimmed to a an incremental amount to allow for such armaments. The quadanium armor plating is very limited only in certain areas such as the command bridge.
  • Weak Spot: With the limited armor and maximum storage at the topside stern one of the largest ammunition caches of the vessel is held unarmored, allowing for a simple turbolaser or starfighter strafe to completely disable the vessel, if not destroy it completely.
Description: The Imperium Class Missile Guided Cruiser, is the first of it's kind in the new arsenal progrma for the First Imperial Navy. After seeing the tactical issues with the lack of long-range based ships, and nearly no support vessels of any kind, the design for the Imperium was born. As a heavy cruiser primarily armed for long range missile barrage, it fits the criteria for a vessel required by the First Order, although not very well balanced, it's the right ship for the job.

There are six turbolasers, placed strategically at three different locations on the hull, to provide maximum firepower when a small vessel is tooo close range for the missile launchers. The proton torpedo tubes are bow-side of the bridge, placed on four sides of the octogonal forward hull. The four assault concussion missile tubes, are placed at the bow of the ship, forcing the target to be forwards of the cruiser. There are small defense weapons scattered throughout the hull, but they are more concentrated in the stern of the ship. Finally the ship has six Tirene Ion Drives giving it moderate speed for a heavy cruiser.

Development Thread: N/A
Intent: To create a long range support cruiser for the First Order, and for the Open Circle Conglomerate to sell.
Who Can Use This: Anyone

Armament: 14
I'd probably change this to a 12 based on the current weapons loadout, just from a quick linear scaling of the example ships.

I realize that these are defensive weapons, but as weapons, they should be listed under the armament section.

This link seems to be broken.

Aetian Deflector Shield Generator
Is there any performance difference between an Aetian Deflector shield generator and a standard deflector shield generator?

I may have missed something, but I don't see any long-range weapons on this ship. Concussion missiles are generally known for being short-range weapons, though some sources such as Starships of the Galaxy do list assault concussion missiles as having a "medium" maximum range.

If you're looking for a long range missile weapon, I would check out energy torpedoes as one option. They don't have quite the fire rate or versatility of normal missiles though.

Another alternative could be using MG1-A proton torpedoes, which are the longest range conventional canon warheads that I know of. They appear to be pretty large and powerful weapons, given how few of them a Centax-class Frigate carries. I'd probably make these equivalent to assault concussion missiles for shipbuilding purposes.

As an alternative to those options, you could design and submit a new long-range missile weapon. If you do go this route, I would recommend making it backwards compatible with an existing warhead launcher, such as a concussion missile or proton torpedo launcher.

Edited all those you recommended,

No.

I could have sworn that concussion missiles were long range. For instance here: Broadside Cruiser it mentions concussion missiles as long range weapons. Either way, just to save trouble I'll make them proton torpedo tubes, then make a long range missile and a missile launcher later then re-sub this with those weapons.

x68 Proton Torpedo Tubes
If these are MG1-A torpedo launchers, I would make their count "15" to balance out for their long-range factor. If they're generic, proton torpedoes (which also are short range), this number is solid.

This is one of those areas where sources aren't consistent, unfortunately. Most sources state that they're short-range, which is why the concussion missile article mentions that they're short range in the first sentence. I'm not saying that you're wrong in thinking that, but for our purposes here at Star Wars Chaos, most people view them as being medium to short-range weapons.

Ok, went with that. Today is not my day with long range projectiles.

Understood.
