OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS
STANDARD FEATURES
ADVANCED SYSTEMS
Strengths:
  • Heavy long-range firepower
  • Heavy defenses
  • Ability to generate interdiction fields at long ranges (standard long-range turbolaser range)
Weaknesses:
  • Slow, unwieldy (even more so when the gravity field generators are active)
  • Awkward firing arcs due to the gravity field generators
  • Once gravity field projectors are activated, it starts attracting debris from explosions on or of nearby ships, potentially causing hull damage
  • Exposed gravity field generators: for this reason it is a priority target for enemies engaging an Immobilizer 423, since destroying the gravity field generators can potentially gut the ship
  • Exposed ventral hangar
DESCRIPTION
Engagements such as Aaris III showed that the power drain of operating so many energy weapons could make for suboptimal performance, as well as the secondary batteries being effective within only half standard turbolaser range were liabilities, so HVCs were favored over long-range turbolasers and ion cannons. In addition, the HIMS was deemed to be too power-hungry as well as space-hungry, and losing one squadron of attack craft to allow two additional medvac squadrons, and medical facilities, was deemed acceptable. However, despite all this, the main tractor beam was changed for an even larger model; with all that said, it still remained slow and sluggish.

The gravity well generators still have their set of weaknesses, as they not only force the heavy hardpoints to carry awkward firing arcs, especially if the target is in or close to being on the same plane as an I423; destroying one of those generators can potentially gut the ship as well. In addition, the ventral hangar is still a critical point of weakness, where a stray missile or attack craft can fire at its fuel and/or ordnance reserves and cripple the ship in doing so. For these reasons, Immobilizer 423s must not be deployed without escorts.
