The IMD-71 Blaster is a weapon notable for enshrining itself as the Imperial Manikata Dynasty's standard issue sidearm weapon. The IMD-71's quirk of design allowed to be relatively easily transformed into a faster firing weapon, though at the cost of range and extra capacitors, increasing size. However, the elongated IMD-71 fit the role of a close quarters carbine rather well. This led to the customized variant being produced in mass alongside its standard sidearm brother. Transformation in combat is impractical, and thus converting an IMD-71 into either form is highly recommended to be done in an off-duty scenario with recommended equipment.

The IMD-71 Blaster Pistol was first introduced during the First Age of the Dynasty three hundred years prior, the IMD-71 Blaster Pistol is a tried and tested weapon kept up to date by the Dynasty as a sign of respect towards its reliable design. The first IMD-71s were produced in the first few spires united under the Mokoyei Clan, to fend off raiders and give military officers a powerful weapon to slay their enemies with.
The IMD-71B variant was discovered during the middle years of the First Age of the Dynasty, when war raged across Manikata like not seen since the Age of Flood. Special operators needed close combat weaponry for orbitship boarding operations that would also prove reliable for changing situations. But, they couldn't afford to deter their Rifle manufacturing plants from producing the mainline rifle at the time, lest their soldiers go into battle with Pre-Dynasty aged equipment and show weakness. Thus, they shifted the pistol departments into carbine manufacturing as a compromise after an inspired engineer mapped the IMD-71's design quirks for exploitation.
Both variants are seen as a sign of Manikatan strength, and the glorious years of the First Age when Manikata was brought under the reign of the Mokoyei royal lineage.
