I Still Remember

In millennia past, this was a place where experiments were done. Sulen Dewan was one of a number. A simple mark on a piece of paper or on a datapad. Her resting location kept secret when the planet fell under attack and the base destroyed. The survivors, if there were any were taken captive and were long dead now. The memory of what happened here dying with them.

Barely any marks were left of the base and only ruins were left. Sulen laid in her casket, sleeping like child, free from the worries of the galaxy. Time had passed, covered her location and the secrets of what happened here. Nobody had gone searching for her since she had nobody left to worry. Her parents had died when she was a teen and she put herself through military school.

After joining a random military of her time, she had not yet grown in any power or ability. She had wanted to be a naval officer. Her military had other plans for her though. They put her through a battery of tests and enhanced what abilities she had. A final day and test had locked her away.

A long forgotten base on a now icy world held some ancient secrets and a lone survivor from times past. One that if discovered would be a lost soul.

This planet now rested under the cloud of the Iron Empire and an expedition was sent to explore these long, lost and forgotten ruins of the past.

Resting far above the white and blue planet floated a small collection of ships, each with a particular purpose and role to fill. Their crews hurried about making preparations for planet-fall. At the head of the collection was a single corvette, brought along as escort in case anything were to go wrong or they ran into any unsavory types on or near this frozen world. As the ship docked with the transport designated to break atmosphere a young Ensign, dressed in a set of dense standard-issue winter clothes, moved about with deliberate care, datapad in hand.

Nodding to the helmsmen he cleared his throat and spoke over the internal comms. "Soldiers, head onto the transport craft, we shall be departing soon. Flight Chief Pollux is acting captain for the time being." Stepping away he tugged on the tan clothing, boarding the vessel with the others. The ride down unpleasant, the reentry rougher than Thane would have liked, but soon they found themselves planet-side. The mechanical whirring of the cargo bay opening was matched by the whipping wind. A blast of cold air assaulted them, causing loose fabrics to flutter momentarily before settling. Those not wearing helmets rose their hands to cover unshielded eyes from the blinding sunlight which illuminated the previously dark interior.

While perhaps not the commanding officer of this expedition, Ensign Thane moved about making sure everything and everyone was prepared and instructed those ready to mount up onto the few issued speederbikes and landspeeders, as they could not land a ship of this size upon the jagged landscape near the old ruins. He slipped into the passenger seat of a speeder, ordering the first group to move out. They would come back for the auxiliaries once the ruins had been initially scouted.

The Iron Imperial presence on the planet had peaked Aster's interest. Curious as to what prompted the Iron Imperial interest in this planet, the teenager had one of the faction's vessels - which she had since made her own - head to the planet.

"Princess, it seems like several men have been sent on speeders to investigate the ruins," one of her Wolfsglaive reported to her after speaking to the officer in charge of the expedition.

"I see," Aster replied with a nod of her head. "Have the landspeeder ready when we land, we're going to join them," she announced.

"Is that really a good idea?" one asked. "Won't we get in their way?"

"Not if we're careful," Aster replied with confidence. "Contact the soldiers enroute to the ruins and do them the courtesy of letting them know we're coming."

"Understood," the Wolfsglaive said and opened the comms channel then attempted to contact the leader of the group on the speeders.

Word spread quickly through the small convoy that someone of high nobility would be joining them for their expedition, to the dismay of the Ensign. Edward did not dislike those of a softer cloth but he also desired to keep his contact with them to a minimum so that he might avoid making a fool of himself so early in what he perceived as a long career. With a resigned sigh the Ensign slid on his pair of protective goggles over his eyes and kept his mind occupied by observing the frozen wastes. Looming in the distance stood the field of icy crags and frost covered spikes that they were looking for. A perfect place for a military compound, the man thought to himself.

Upon entering the twisting terrain the convoy began to slow, finally coming to a stop once they had spotted their prize. A giant durasteel door was the only sign that this place existed at all, carved into the ice and rock and sealed shut for generations. Any markings or paint that would have proudly emblazoned the door were all but weathered away by the passage of time and the sharp winds. The lack of a panel left only one option for entrance, explosives. Luckily they came prepared. Edward jumped out of the speeder, and began to direct the men in his commanding tone to unload the sensitive munitions and drills, while sending the Landspeeders back to pick up the second team. "Start setting up the charges, the faster we get this done the fast we get inside. I'll see about getting us some heat once we're through," he spoke between dry breaths.

The cold nipped at exposed flesh, forcing the Ensign to tug on his winter clothes and grumble, deciding it best to set a few survival lanterns near around for the idle, standing as close to one as he could to feel some wisp of warmth. He kept his eyes to the horizon, expecting at any moment another speeder would appear to join them.
