Question Hypergates!

Hey folks! I had a few questions about hypergates. I know there are a few on the map, and I remember that I fought the Sith over one back during my IC days, but I don’t actually know how they work!

For example, can they be used for RP purposes or are they more for background flavor? Is anyone allowed to use them? How many ships can I put through them? Where do I end up after using one?

Was curious to know, thanks!

They're gree-style hypergates, is my understanding.

The idea follows standard scifi logic. They create point-to-point connections that allow anything that moves through them to teleport instantly between the gates. I assume the gates on the map are networked. There used to be a mandate about them, but it no longer exists. So I don't think there are any relevant mechanics to them.

Like anything else on the map, I imagine anyone is allowed to play with them in-roleplay. As for "how many ships can move through them" that would depend on the size of the gate, but in theory, even if a gate could only fit one ship at a time, you could still move a fleet very quickly because you're bypassing hyperspace travel times entirely.

I think the best place to start is here for a more official idea behind what they are.

As far as RP goes have fun. Chaos is a sandbox and if you can make them a central plot point go for it. I had a thread with Efret Farr Efret Farr recently that featured a hypergate.

If you want to build a faction around one of the hypergate hexes… have at it. I think as long as you’re playing within site rules you’re golden! Imagination is the limit.

I hope this helps!
