An ancient Huttese design, the X-1 Premium Shield is a comparatively compact unit for the significant protective advantages it confers. In ancient times, these shield generators would be carried by a Hutt's majordomo, thus keeping the master within the sphere of protection offered by the shield generated. The unit itself is engineered small enough to be semi-portable, though it is incredibly heavy for its size, which is considerable compared to other notable personal shield generators.
The X-1 combines multiple linked shields of various types, in a feedback loop, linked to spiderwebs of capacitors to handle overloads. Combining multiple shield types allows the X-1 to handle a wide spectrum of incoming attacks, while the linked chain of shields and capacitors give the system an incredible ability to recharge itself for a time, even under sustained, heavy attack. Infact, the X-1 is designed to operate in a state of perpetual overload, though this delicate and overpowered combination of so many varied shield types obviously comes with some drawbacks.
Though portable, the unit is very heavy, requiring a harness or significant strength and endurance to carry around. In operation, it generates significant amounts of waste heat, and the unit can become hot enough to cause harm to unprotected skin, thus is best worn on a padded and insulated harness. In extremis, if not shut down prior to final overload, the unit's heat will cause a runaway reaction that will explode the unit, violently. Finally, should the user choose not to die, and shut down the imminently exploding X-1, it will vent all remaining energy, and shut down for good.
All these drawbacks cannot take away from the fact that this is one of the finest personal shield generators in the galaxy. In testing, the unit was shown to, for a time, increase in effectiveness under sustained fire through absorption up to 125%, though this would then decrease rapidly toward final overload. Through design, perfect for a Hutt lord who only needs to be protected from harm for a short time until their retinue can come to their aid.
