- Combat Function: The Home Guard forms the backbone of the Humbarine garrison. They are equipped to thrive in urban combat scenarios, making them well-suited to defense rather than being used as an expeditionary force. Each squadron can be outfitted for specific tasks such as anti-personnel or anti-vehicle tasks, to recon and shock roles, all the while supported by light vehicles and repulsorcraft transports.
- Versatile: The Home Guard has access to a solid array of infantry weapons, equipment, and light vehicles; they are suited to a variety of tasks.
- Urban Specialists: On the streets, inside buildings, even tight sewers and tunnels - these are the environments the Home Guard is best equipped and trained for.
- Veterans: Combat experience is a requirement to join the Home Guard.
- Light Support: A lack of heavy vehicles puts the Home Guard at a disadvantage against more mechanized forces.
- Air Vulnerable: A distinct lack of anti-air capabilities means the Home Guard requires air superiority from allied units, or risks decimation from above.
- Defensive: The Home Guard is not equipped or trained for excursions into non-urban combat environments.
The Home Guard has often been called the Governor’s Fist, and for good reason. They are Humbarine’s only fully militarized, full-time force. Their impact in enforcing martial law and intimidating dissidents has been highly effective, and all within their ranks have at least a few years of combat experience. Many of whom previously served on battlefields across the Core’s ecumenopolises.
On a day-to-day basis, members of the Home Guard can be found running protection rackets, flushing out rebel cells, enforcing curfews, and raiding unauthorized establishments.
Their familiarity with Humbarine’s sole megacity not only means the Home Guard knows the city’s many secrets, but that at a moment’s notice, they can make the city into their fortress, and fight a guerrilla conflict if necessary. In active warfare, the Home Guard’s duty is the Governorate’s last line of defense.
