Discussion How Many Time Displaced Characters Does Chaos Have?

I was reading this thread and it made me wonder how many characters are from a different time period?

So sound off if your character isn’t from this time period. What time period are they from?
Braith is from roughly 16,700 B.B.Y, in that ballpark give or take a couple of decades. She was sealed in an oubliette during some game of thrones style betrayals in a power grab when she was around twenty, so somewhat closer to being frozen in carbonite or something like that rather than a faulty hyperspace jump or the like.

It's a bit of a Chaos classic, which I don't think is weird. It allows people to easily bring over their OC's from past roleplay experiences, or have their character be from their favorite period in star wars history.

Valery is the same. She started in swtor and this type of story allowed me to continue her here on Chaos in a natural way.

I do think people sometimes skip over the fun story potential of waking up X amount of time later, though. They rush jumping into settling in current board stories, rather than explore the drama from stasis. But as with all forms of RP, there isn't really a right or wrong :D just whatever folks enjoy, and stasis makes things possible that contribute to people coming here in the first place.

It was a huge draw for me coming here.

I'll be honest, anyone can write anything they want. And I won't actively or publicly shame anyone for time displacement.

BUT

It's an alarmingly common trope on here, to the point it's almost annoying in some cases. A few writers do it well. A few more than that seem to do it in such a way as to justify an all powerful, be all, end all damn near God.

I may end up reworking portions of the original bio from 2007-2008 for him after what happened. It had been the plan a few years back to explain a few of the flashbacks mentioned in threads, and then I forgot, so thanks for the reminder that I need to figure out how to tie in a satire with one I actually tried to write decently well. Be a fun project at least to work out the timeline finally.

I have kind of left it vague for characters I imported from TGC. Really, it just creates a sort of backstory that is inconsistent with Chaos line. Like I did high level bullets for the multiple iterations of Pal Veda and did not really take a position as to whether he came from a different time or universe. His history just doesn’t really line up, and I don’t worry about it. Same with Hwo Hwo since there are several Jedi characters here that he interacted with in prior incarnations and I like the thought of him already knowing them, but I leave it a bit vague as to how he knows them and his prior interactions. Far from perfect or creative, but it allows me to just dive into stories and write the present instead of dwelling on the past.
