STRENGTHS
- Projector: The Helias is designed around a mixture of standard turbolaser technology and an artillery combat doctrine. The Helias is capable of refining energy into a sustained, single beam able to be projected for several seconds before finally dying out. This greatly increases the accuracy of the Helias compared to similar laser based weaponry.
- Targeting Computer: The Helias comes equipped with an internal targeting computer, allowing the weapon to track targets with minimal input from crew. This allows for more precise, rapid changes in targets, and allows for fewer crewman to control the weapons.
- Charge: To project the sustained energy beam, the Helias requires considerable recharging time between shots. It takes on average thirty seconds for the weapon to cycle and cool the power cells in use before it can fire again without risking an overload.
- Gunboat Diplomacy: The nature of the Helias gears the weapon towards combat against corvette sized vessels and larger. While it can easily track smaller, fast moving vessels, its low rate of fire prevents it from effectively engaging them. Coupled with its large size, the Helias is extremely vulnerable to bombers and gunship attacks.
The Helias Class Laser Cannon is the first weapon system designed in the Dark Shadow doctrine within the High Sith Empire. To combat the larger threats of the galaxy, and conserve the limited resources of the Empire, the Dark Shadow doctrine being applied to the fleet calls for supremacy at range over enemy forces. The Helias is designed to be equipped to a variety of High Sith Empire warships, with the intention of allowing them to engage their foes at greater distances. Persevering their own fleet power while inflicting maximum casualties among enemy forces is paramount, and the Helias will make up the backbone of this initiative.
