- Handheld Cannon: The HAMR-01 is, for lack of a better word, a 'handheld cannon' and is capable of smashing through armor, both personal and vehicle, and hitting the target and anything behind it for good measure
- A Cannon's Range: Besides the massive stopping power behind it the HAMR-01 also is able to reach out and touch anything the user can see through their scope, which is enhanced by the electrorangefinder built into said scope
- Bantha-Weight Weapon: As one would expect from a weapon described as a 'handheld cannon' the HAMR-01 is a rather large and cumbersome weapon, requiring two people or one very strong person, to lug it and its ammo around
- The One Slugthrower Downside: As is the case with every slugthrower the HAMR-01 suffers from a lack of ammunition even for a slugthrower, only being able to hold between five and ten rounds at once
Hekler'Kok was surprised when many customers who had ordered the AMR-01 suggested to the company that they would also like a heavier variant of the rifle. With this suggestion the design team began work on a heavier and more deadly version of the AMR-01.
While externally the HAMR-01 seems completely different to the AMR-01 the internals are almost identical, albeit shifted around to better fit the external look and up-sized to fit the larger 20x138mm cartridge. When it came for materials they again re-used the same materials as the AMR, their patented Titanium-Alusteel alloy for the receiver and internal mechanisms, Quadanium Steel for the barrel, Chromium to line the barrel, Plasteel for the grip and stock and finally the entire weapon got a coating of CeramiCoat.
Just as it shared many materials of its smaller counterpart the HAMR-01 also shared many of the same features as well. A set of fully ambidextrous controls allow for comfortable use with either hand. A targeting scope with a rangefinder helps with the accurate acquisition of targets as well, while a pair of back-up iron sights in case of malfunction or damage. An integrated folding bipod and monopod helping with stability in any position.
A custom muzzle brake/flash hider helps with both recoil mitigation and hiding the user. A heavy duty recoil pad on the stock keeps the users shoulder from getting too bruised. A dual recoil buffer system, derived from the AMR-01, helps to reduce the recoil from the rifle. A modified short stroke gas piston, again derived from the AMR-01, is used for its reliability. Finally the rifle uses a three pin take down system that allows the rifle to be broken down into three pieces for easier transport.
