- Family Name: House Khal
- Family Type: Hapan Nobility
- Place of Origin: Harterra
- Family Size: 4 (including Ben Khal; not including extended family)
- Loyalties: Hapes Consortium
- Description: House Khal is the ruling family of Harterra, a planet located in the Interior Regions of the Hapes Cluster. A clan of ambitious overachievers, their ranks include brilliant scientists, scheming politicians, and Force Users whose talents range from middling to prodigious.
Above: Painting commissioned by the late family matriarch, Ducha Secciah Khal, depicting herself as a warrior queen flanked by mythical battle dragons.
- Name: Secciah Khal, former Ducha of Harterra
- Age: Elderly (deceased)
- Species: Hapan
- Role: Former Matriarch of House Khal | Mother of Lenore, Mirella, and Arlessa; Grandmother of Ben
- Languages:
- Hapan (native)
- Galactic Basic (fluent)
- Skills: A former Admiral of the Hapan Navy, Secciah was a formidable warrior in her prime and a cunning, ruthless politician in her later years.
- Notable Possessions: Upon her death, Secciah's belongings were inherited by her surviving female kin, particularly her daughters Mirella and Arlessa.
- Appearance: Secciah was your standard Hapan superwoman, beautiful and powerful. Though she often depicted herself as a tall warrior-goddess in paintings, in reality she was short in stature, further reduced by a back injury she sustained in battle.
- Description: Secciah was a legend in her youth, a warrior who commanded hundreds of ships. Yet despite her heroic defense of the rainbow gem crown, she was motivated by one desire: to become the next Queen Mother. Yet fate intervened. A catastrophic battle injury left her stooped and limping, bringing her military career to a premature end. Ashamed of her maimed body, she dedicated the rest of her life to serving Her Majesty as a shadowy advisor - all while she ruthlessly shaped her children's destinies for the singular purpose of guiding House Khal toward the throne of Hapes. The murder of her granddaughter Shaya on the day of her wedding to Prince Astor destroyed years of planning in an instant. With her titanic ambitions failing to come to fruition, she purportedly gave herself over to drinking in excess during her final years, suffering a fatal heart attack after a long night of carousing at the age of eighty nine. Her legacy nonetheless plays a vital role in the lives of her relatives and the planet she once ruled.
FAMILY MEMBER 2
- Name: Arlessa Khal
- Age: Late forties
- Species: Hapan
- Role: Ducha of Harterra | Mother of Ben Khal, Second Daughter of Secciah, Sister of Lenore and Mirella | Balzarg of the Sibsi N Sanilër For'ta Nidan
- Languages:
- Hapan (native)
- Galactic Basic (fluent)
- Binary (fluent)
- Others
- Skills: Arlessa is an inventor with a passion for communications technology. As a trained member of the Sibsi and a member of their highest ranks, the Balzarg, she has abilities on par with a Jedi Master, minus their philosophy and moral compass.
- Notable Possessions:
- The Frequency Hopper, a stylish corvette
- DV-98, a research droid built and programmed by Arlessa
- Moonstone ring of the Ducha of Harterra
- Gun of Command
- House Khal heirloom dagger (hilt inlaid with rainbow gems)
- Expensive designer clothing, jewelry, etc.
- Holdings:
- Moonmist Palace, the ancient family estate on Harterra
- Various properties on Harterra and other worlds, including a vacation home on Dreena
- Patents for her various inventions, typically involving communication methods and devices, though sometimes branching out into other areas, such as droids and AI
- Appearance: Arlessa's looks are typical among members of House Khal: a fair-skinned, dark-haired beauty with eyes as blue as the moonstone in the Ducha's ring on her finger. Like any other Hapan noblewoman worth her salt, she adorns herself in the latest fashions, wears makeup to further accentuate her features, styles her hair in elaborate braided coifs, and is always seen dripping from head to toe in jewels.
- Description: Arlessa is something of an enigma, even to those who know her. She seems to have it all: brains, beauty, wealth, privilege, and even the Force. And yet, there is something missing in Arlessa. She is cold, distant, and temperamental. The dark shadow of her mother is apparent in all that she does, driving her to lengths she wouldn't otherwise entertain if the goal of being the next Queen Mother hadn't been hammered into her all her life by the one person she longed to please the most. Though she is capable of acts of great love and self-sacrifice, especially for her son, she does them seemingly without warmth or joy. Her love is care without comfort. Far from being evil or cruel, she tends to be insensitive to others' feelings. She is usually well-intentioned, but her blind devotion to honoring her mother's dream may end up doing more harm than good.
- Name: Cedrin Khal
- Age: Late thirties
- Species: Hapan
- Role: Consort of Arlessa Khal | Ben's "Father"
- Languages:
- Hapan (native)
- Galactic Basic (semi-fluent)
- Skills: Cedrin has never worked a day in his life, not even to cook or clean. He has some basic combat skills, but is not a great fighter by any means. He leaves his personal protection to his bodyguards. His most active pursuits include sports, personal fitness, and recreational sailing on his yacht.
- Notable Possessions:
- An expensive speeder
- An even more expensive yacht
- Designer clothing, accessories, etc.
- Holdings: None
- Appearance: Cedrin is a young Hapan male with brown hair, green eyes, tanned skin, and a winning smile.
- Description: As the trophy husband of a Hapan noblewoman, Cedrin lives a life of leisure, utterly devoid of any responsibilities or duties beyond going along with whatever his wife wishes without question. A naturally agreeable man, Cedrin finds these terms quite to his liking and gets along well with Arlessa. His relationship with Ben is friendly, though it lacks any closeness or intimacy; he wasn't the best father to Ben, preferring to indulge in his hobbies and leaving the care of the child to nannies and tutors. Now that Ben is grown, their interests overlap a bit more, which at least gives them some things to talk about - but the opportunities for true father-son bonding have all but passed them by.
Others:
Lenore Khal (deceased) - Eldest daughter of Secciah, murdered by her husband
Mirella Khal - Second daughter of Secciah, imprisoned for use of the Dark Side
Shaya Khal (deceased) - Daughter of Mirella, murdered on her wedding day along with her groom, Prince Astor, by Kalen
Kalen Khal - REDACTED
GENERAL FAMILY INFORMATION
House Khal is a relatively new addition to the Great Houses of Hapes. Records show the earliest Hapan of any significance bearing the surname Khal to be one Sinsor Khal, a male scientist and former Jedi who was employed in secret by Queen Mother Ta'a Chume I. But the first mention of House Khal as a noble family dates some seventy years after the Second Galactic Civil War, in the form of a record of purchase of the land later to be known as Moonmist, the family's primary estate. In the centuries since, individuals with the surname Khal have included scientists, inventors, politicians, Force Users, and other significant historical figures.
As is typically the case among Hapans, all of these achievements were accomplished by women. It is the female line which makes the decisions and shapes the future of the next generation. The men of House Khal are relegated to the background, regarded as useful only for breeding or, in times of war, cannon fodder. There have been few exceptions to this rule; Ben Khal, a son of the current youngest generation, was sent to train under the Jedi Order. But it is more common that the fate of a male Khal is to be used as a pawn in the family's pursuit of power.
House Khal recently made intergalactic news, albeit not for the reasons they hoped. Their attempt at achieving the highest office in the land—that of Queen Mother, by marrying one of their daughters to the Chume'da—ended in blood when the prince and his bride were both murdered on their wedding day. After such a close brush with victory ended in failure, they have nonetheless redoubled their efforts at obtaining the throne.
