DESCRIPTION
Named after one of the greatest cultural leaders in Mandalorian history, the Hammerborn - Class Main Battle Tank was a marvel of modern engineering. Unlike most Mandalorian tanks, the Hammerborn eschewed utilizing Beskar within it’s overall construction. It was cited that the rarity of Beskar - and it’s cultural significance - held no place on armoured frames that weren’t flesh and bone. As vehicles and starships tend to be left behind after they’ve lived out their usefulness, in the minds of the Mandalorian Artisans, it was utterly foolish to utilize one of their most precious metals as armour plating. Sure, it would’ve granted their vehicles and starships a more hardy exterior, but as the prevalence of Ionic weaponry never faded - the damage it would cause to the organics and delicate circuitry far outweighed any benefits the Beskar husk could offer. Thus, the Mandalorians at Mythosaur Forgeworks elected to go with something different that offered much of the same protective properties.

The exterior shell of the Hammerborn was a composite armoured shell, forged from a mixture of Carbon-Durasteel and Turadium plating. While both materials were incredibly strong on their own, when combined their traits were further enhanced. Through their composite blending, the armoured shell of the Hammerborn was credited as being tough as nails; capable of withstanding even the most powerful of weapons without suffering a hull breach. However, despite the words attributed to the design - the reality was always different. It was a big galaxy out there, and there was always someone with a bigger stick. So, as rugged and durable as the Artisan’s claimed the Hammerborn’s external shell was - it was always possible for the unexpected to occur, which might lead to the armour plating, and the frame of the hull being breached.

As contingencies were a favourite amongst the Sons of Mandalore, the Mythosaur Artisans wove something special into the Tank’s interior structure. Having studied the extensive list of Republic Engineering designs, alongside their rival Thyrsian schematics, the Mandalorians managed to unlock the secrets of Regenerative Hull Tissue. Through the combination of Animated Metal, and Laminanium, the internal hull plating would be capable of “mending” itself in the event the armour plating was breached. It wasn’t perfect. The armour and hull wouldn’t simply restore itself, but through the advancements in technology - the hole would be filled with a metallic substance that would harden rapidly, and then be sealed behind a metallic membrane of Laminanium plating. While the substance wouldn’t offer the same protective properties as the rest of the armoured shell, the Hammerborn would eventually become hermetically-sealed once more.

Weapons were a part of a Mandalorian’s religion, thus the armament on the Hammerborn had to be perfect - and highly-effective on the battlefield. So, when the Artisans began selecting their Battle Tank’s armament… they looked to the past for inspiration. As the Canderous Repulsortank was a mythical and hyper-effective vehicle of it’s time - the design became extremely dated in the modern era. However, with a few modern advancements and additions, the armament of the Hammerborn would prove to be highly-effective on the battlefield which allowed the Tank Commander to utilize their armoured vehicle’s mission profile in a myriad of new, and unique ways. With most targets being heavily shielded, the Ion Disruptor and the possible loadout of Guided Nanomissiles would tear through their target’s projected barriers; before coring through their armour with armour-piercing sabots launched at hypervelocity speeds.

What made the Main Battle Tank truly unique, in comparison to other Repulsortank’s of its classification and rating, was the advanced stabilization system that was woven into its armoured frame. This integrated system, dubbed Siege Mode by several of the Mythosaur Artisans, would shunt power away from a majority of the vehicle’s mobility systems to enhance the offensive and defensive capabilities of the Tank. With more power at their command, the projected deflector screens would be harder to crack, and the coolant systems of the railguns would flip into overdrive - allowing the weapons to fire faster. However, unlike many other vehicles with such capabilities, the Hammerborn was still able to move - albeit significantly slower than before. Such functionality allowed for another layer of strategic effectiveness to be woven into the vehicle’s design.

Equipped with such an array of weapons, armoured plating and advanced capabilities, the Hammerborn would live up to its name, and rightly earn its place in history.

  • Integrated Ripper / Bowcaster Functionality.

What does this mean? Does it mean that the main cannon can act like a ripper or a bowcaster in some fashion? Has a Ripper and/or bowcaster been bolted onto the main cannon like real life machine guns have been used to 'spot' tank cannons?

Canon is not clear if bowcaster and rippers are related in terms of operating principles. While rippers are somehow energy powered, it's not necessarily clear if they use magnetic acceleration to achieve that effect or something else (like laser ablation).

No, if they were - they would've been the coaxial cannons.

I was actually referring to the ability of the bowcaster, and how it's able to coat the discharged quarrels in a plasmatic sheathe. I also believed that's how Mandalorian Rippers operated in some fashion when trying to peel away the game mechanics and match the canon lore regarding shields of that era. Sadly, I think that I considered it a handheld version of an electrothermal mass-driver, which bore similar properties.

Anyways, I've removed the mention of the ripper and hyperlinked it to the bowcaster article for ease of reference.

Very nicely written, detailed and done submission. A true war machine for the war machines. I didn't find any problem, and I can actually approve it again. But I know you so well that I know how demanding you are for your work. That is why I make this comment:
  • In the "Integrated Neuranium (Anti-Scanning) Hull Liner" line, you forgot to convert the link to a hyperlink.
