SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Shieldbreaking Firepower: T-33 Radiation weakens a Deflector Shield’s Coherency. Successive volleys could punch a hole through the projected screen, and likely cause catastrophic damage to the armour and hull plating beneath.
  • Auto-loading Functionality: Magazine-based or Belt-fed Racks, etc.
  • Possible Variations in Ferromagnetic Payloads: Standard Armour-piercing Sabots, to High-explosive Slugs, etc.
  • Hypervelocity Weapon: Like any large-scale Mass-driver, the Crusader’s lance is a hypervelocity capable weapon. Naturally, the larger the weapon, the more deadly it becomes, as there’s more power available to bring the slug up to the requisite speeds.
  • Fast-Track Mountings: Turrets are capable of Smoothly and Swiftly tracking targets without fumbling Organic hands ratcheting the cannon(s) to engage their enemies; whoever they might be.
  • Automated Uplink: With a rudimentary Droid Brain installed within the turret, the Crusader’s lance can link-up with additional turrets, and a Vehicle or Starship’s central computer core to create an effective fire control system.
  • Minor Regenerative Properties: Infused Laminanium plating, alongside animated metal sealant, allows for structural breaches to be sealed within a small measure of time. However, any significant damage requires a lengthy period of drydock time to conduct any and all repairs.
  • Barbette Shielding: Protected by laser-reflective shielding, the Crusader’s lance was capable of shrugging off the small-arms firepower of various energy weapons, to the larger variants ferried into battle by starfighters. Naturally, that’s dependent on the size of the weapon and what it’s installed on.
STRENGTHS
  • Hypervelocity-capable Mass-driver: Capable of Vaporizing Targets, or Targetted Areas on Impact.
  • T-33 Radiation Infusement(s): Capable of Weakening, if not Destabilizing Deflector Shield Coherency on Impact.

WEAKNESSES
  • Deflector Shields: While potentially weakened by the T-33 radiation, the particle shielding in conventional deflector shields can still intercept the oncoming projectile.
  • Target Precision: Although capable to unleash its variable payload in rapid succession, the Crusader’s lance is best utilized in a precise matter - as any missed shots could result in someone’s day being ruined down the line.
  • EMP and Ion Resistance: While insulated against EMP and ionization overloads, there is potential that these safeguards can fail - which are wholly dependent on the device’s power and proximity.
  • Coil Compression and Rail Alignment: If utilized in rapid succession, the Crusader’s lance could see the rails warping, and the coil’s misaligning. Both factors would result in catastrophic failures that would require lengthy drydock time to conduct repairs.
DESCRIPTION
The PTEROSAUR-01 Mass-driver Cannon, or known as the Crusader’s lance, was the primary anti-vehicular and anti-starship weapon of the Death Watch and their Crusade. First conceived as an upgraded version of their small-scale particle weapons, the Mandalorian Forgemasters believed that their starships would benefit more from focusing on mass-drivers, than energy weapons. This realization came about during their time adrift, as the Death Watch noted that the various militaries populating the Galaxy had a preference for advanced ray-shielding systems - leaving their particle barriers to languish in mediocracy. Thus, in utilizing mass-driven weaponry, the Death Watch and their slowly growing armada would find themselves at a distinct advantage over their many enemies.

When the technical specifications were put into simplistic terms, the PTEROSAUR-01 was nothing more than an upscaled and overspecialized Bowcaster. While there was little inspiration taken from the natives of Kashyyyk, the concept of sheathing a kinetic projectile in a plasmatic envelope wasn’t new - nor revolutionary. However, what made the Crusader’s lance truly unique, was that it combined the plasmatic envelope with the highly radioactive isotope known as T-33. That very isotope was utilized in weapons that were once outfitted to K-wing bombers to destabilize the projected coherency in a starship’s deflector shield. But, as the plasmatic envelope didn’t emit a constant stream of this specialized radiation, the effects weren’t as potent in comparison.

Nevertheless, the PTEROSAUR-01 was nothing short of a capable shield-breaking weapon. With the combination of energy and kinetic damage, the Crusader’s lance would utilize a more brute force approach in breaking through to reach the supple armour plating beneath. Because the Mass-driver was a hypervelocity-capable weapon, as each round achieves a nigh-superluminal velocity when ejected, the affected armour plating would buckle - if not vapourize outright. This is achieved by a state of matter conversion, as the solid substance would behave like a liquid when the impact was made. Thus, even the most hardened armour plating, or chitinous carapace, could potentially be rendered ineffective against the superluminal ferocity of the Crusader’s lance.
