STRENGTHS
  • The Heavy: The Peregrine was built to be a terrifying heavy ship capable of taking apart capitol ships with successful bombing runs against vulnerable targets with its specialized equipment. Made for making precision strafing runs in the midst of a hectic battlefield, this augmented Gallinule traded almost half of its defensive power for a larger frame which would allow it to hold one of several increased weapons payloads. Ranging from an impressive Missile Bombardment Ship to using the terrifying Cu system up close and personal as it was intended. Few match the Peregrine's dive.
  • Death From Above: The Peregrine Employs front-heavy Ultrachrome armour, with directional shield boosting control allowing its layered CROSS and Ray shields to be clustered to the front. It is very difficult to bring down the Peregrine as it is rushing towards you, even capable of deflecting some turbolaser fire as they rush at high speeds towards their intended targets.
  • Munitions Cache: The larger Size of the Peregrine allows it to store enough ammunition within it to load its weapons on an autoloader, allowing the system to make multiple runs. Typically the extended cache allows for one full reload of every system on board.
  • Highly Accurate: With laser guided missile systems and the ships AI given access tot he targeting computer, the missiles fired by the HAF-140 can be individually controlled manually by the system or pilot in order for them to engage multiple targets at once, and hit them with pinpoint precision. Additionally being able to calculate and digitally pull the trigger for the pilot allows for precise targeting to such an extent it could reliably fire a missile capable of eliminating a target up to 2.66 meters from a friendly without doing the friendly meaningful harm.
  • Versatile Loadout: To many, simply the ability to be retrofit with alternate weapons is a sign of a well designed ship, the Peregrine uses universal ports knowing that a crucial attack unit such as itself may be required to alter what it was capable of dealing, rapidly.
WEAKNESSES
  • Tunnel Vision: While on its bombing run, many of the ships sensors are overclocked, targeting and engaging other ships in their periphery becomes difficult while they're running these calculations. Firing during a bombing run compromises the ships ability to aid in accuracy, forcing its pilots to fire manually.
  • Poor Rear-Guard: While in its bombing configuration, hitting the Peregrine from the front in any meaningful way becomes almost impossible. But doing so makes the ship exceedingly vulnerable from behind leaving it a target for high speed interceptors or extremely fast fighter craft that are able to get in behind them.
  • Explosive Payload: With such volatile cargo on board it makes sense that the munitions be stored in a dormant state to not cause a chain reaction. However, should one of these ships be destroyed and the weapons be primed to fire the explosion can deal significant damage to other ships around them.
  • Wide Arc: As well as its deficit in speed, due to its weight the force of the momentum the Peregrine builds up as it moves is often greater than the thrust its maneuvering thrusters are capable of putting out in a single blast. Generally requiting the ship to slow down significantly for quick or abrupt turns least it trail a potentially painfully wide arc.
DESCRIPTION
Built from the building blocks of the Gallinule before it, the Peregrine with the addition of a small internal extension making the ship larger, forgoing some of the armour plating and defensive properties in place of munitions reserves and both space and power for heavier weapons would become the operative bomber for House Aquila. The Peregrine is a high speed all around bomber which is capable of engaging with ships of virtually any size or class with the intent of dealing damage to it.

The process that went into creating the HAF-140 relied on the want to be able to hold back ground assaults against air bases and other fortifications, to create a ship capable of delivering powerful air to ground strafing runs and hitting mutliple hard targets in a single run, or, altering the terrain in such a manner that it becomes difficult or impossible to assault the intended target. Realizing that there was no broad place for such a niche craft, House Aquila broadened the scope of the Peregrine to that of a high speed precision bomber that is able to engage enemies even in extremely close proximity to friendly units, or, unleash slavoes of high powered plasma charged rockets into larger targets.

The result could not have gone better, despite some obvious short falls in the shielding, the foundation of House Aquilas military force is to hold a singular unbreakable line. To that ends weaknesses to the rear of a ship matter little.

It was with these revelations that the Gryphus Gunship was intended to be developed, Peregrine soaring in formation with the heavy guns and mobility of the Grypus shadowing their movements, gunning down interceptor ships that would dare approach them from the rear.
