OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

  • Intent: Create a "modern" Gwerin Doeth designed powersuit engineered within the Ellylon Republic as opposed to the distant Gwerin Commonwealth or extinct Unified Gwerin Ecumene. The platform is completely modular with several different variants all exploiting the same technologies and materials albeit physically differing in design for specific engineering objectives or capability. The mainline powersuit variant is named after the Gwerin Commonwealth's "Guardian Corps" in a nod to the Ellylon Republic's history and origins. You might note that the helmet designs are intentionally reminiscent of a skull and this is done to be consistent with the historic Gwerin Doeth warrior practice of wearing "Death masks" in ancient times.

Defender-series variant of the Powersuit, designed for optimal protection without compromising flexibility or agility
ARMOR PIECES:
  • Boots: There is a pair of "hard armor" boots for the Custodian and Guardian-series variants of the Guardian powersuit these are not footwear in the traditional sense but pieces of laser-cut armored orthotics constructed from composite nanolaminated crystal with high-quality cellular padding that are tailor made for optimal orthopaedic health and performance while also providing protection through the material qualities of their construction. The boots are actually several pieces and fastened into place through a series of hexagonal bolts and screws often machine tightened and loosened.
  • Cuirass: The cuirass of the Guardian powersuit and all of its' variants is a sophisticated piece of equipment and contains intricate technologies and sensors which feed data and information to the powersuit's on-board quantum computer. The piece of armor itself is constructed of thick plates of composite nanolaminated crystal capable of resisting cannon-size firearm projectiles and significant punishment from directed energy weapons, it features backface reinforcement to prevent spalling from significant spalling created by large ballistic projectiles and this reinforcement appears as a soft armor panel constructed from Duravlex-Duramyne-Polycene. Notably the cuirass contains a redundant photonic quantum RADAR system that broadcasts quantum entangled microwaves over the wearer's front and rearward arcs allowing the sensor suite to detect heavily camouflaged and even minute electro-magnetic emissions in the environment with the quantum computer being able to identify superflous contacts and ones of genuine interest. For skeletal protection from explosive over-pressure there is a semi-rigid composite crystal segmented column that runs up the wearer's spine, the segments can join in response to explosive over-pressure to prevent severe spinal injuries that might otherwise paralyse the wearer.
  • Cuisse: Guardian-series and Custodian-series powersuits are equipped with armor protecting the entire femur/thigh they are constructed from composite nanolaminated crystal with backface reinforcement constructed from Duravlex-Duramyne-Polycene. There is a notable gap in the hard-armor on the inside of thighs where the lamellar backface reinforcement is visible and this is done to prevent friction or contact between the hard armor panels which might reduce speed or mobility. The Guardian-series cuisse are notable for the four pairs of photon shield emitters present on their surface, these will flash when the powersuit's shields have been drained or are otherwise offline.
  • Deltoid protectors: Deltoid Protectors constructed from nanolaminated crystal and coated with Duravlex protect the user's upper shoulder from directed energy and kinetic threats it appears prominently on the Guardian and Custodian-series of powersuit with the latter's being larger and more prominent than the former's giving the custodian greater protection to the shoulder-socket and neck generally preventing decapitation from explosive pressure waves. The deltoid protectors are reinforced with backface soft armor constructed from Duravlex-Duramyne-Polycene.
  • Elbowguards: Connected to the vambraces is a pair of elbowguards constructed from nanolaminate these protect the joint from trauma caused by directed energy or ballistic threats making it very hard to disable the joint for opponents. It features soft armor backface reinforcement constructed from Duravlex-Duramyne-Polycene to provide maximal protection and comfort. This piece is laser-cut to the wearer's physiology for optimal comfort and minimal cross-section.
  • Gauntlets: Guardian Powersuits gauntlets are part of the skinsuit and constructed from the same material as a benefit of the Duravlex-Duramyne-Polycene-Crystarium construction they can acts as a pair of "Power gloves" and can apply a massive amount of force in a grip sufficient to fracture or crush the bones of most humanoid species. It is worth noting the gauntlets are also constructed with high-adhesion magnatomic grips in the palms and that the Custodian and Guardian-series powersuits have pieces of laser-cut composite nanolaminated crystal hard armor pieces for the gauntlet's fingers to offer protection from shrapnel and projectiles to the digits.
  • Greaves: Guardian powersuit greaves are constructed from composite nanolaminated crystal and feature backface reinforcement consisting of a very thin soft armor panel constructed from Duravlex-Duramyne-Polycene. They are laser-cut to fit the wearer and are fixed to the wearer through a series of hexagonal screws.
  • Helmet: The helmet of the Guardian powersuit is interchangeable with any of its' variants: guardian, custodian and sentinel-series. Regardless of the variant the core functionality and capabilities remain more or less the same. Its' outer shell is constructed from composite nanolaminated crystal and provides excellent protection from directed energy and kinetic threats. Its' lining consists of Duravlex-Duramyne-Polycene-Crystarium along with sonic dampeners to protect the wearer's hearing when environmental sounds are permitted to filter through its' various audio sensors and protect the central nervous system from sonic weapons. It is heavily shielded from radiation and electro-magnetic emissions, protecting the sensitive internal electronic and photonic composite from damage. On the Guardian-series helmet there is a noted lack of traditional visor and instead features two pseudo-lenses which connect to a liquid crystal display providing a two-hundred and ten degrees of horizontal and one-hundred fifty degrees vertical field of view making it very suitable for combat troops. The Custodian and Sentinel-series helmets feature more traditional photo-chromatic lenses which darken polarizing in the presence of hazardous electromagnetic spectrum wavelength or upon user input through the helmet-mounted user interface. All three models of helmet contain an encrypted digital-bandwidth comlink with a considerable line-of-sight range of approximately 55 kilometers or 34 miles.
  • Kneeguards: Both the custodian and guardian-series powersuits feature hard armor kneeguards laser-cut to fit the wearer for maximal comfort and protection, they're constructed from composite nanolaminated crystal with Duravlex-Duramyne-Polycene backface reinforcement, unlike some systems the kneeguard doesn't simply fasten around the knee but rather affixes to a backface panel which connects to the other backface panels and bodysuit throughout the system keeping it anchored in position.
  • Rerebraces: Rerebraces are constructed from composite nanolaminated crystal and laser-cut to fit the wearer's upper arm they wrap around it and are secured with a pair of of hex keys fastened to the wearer with a drill-type apparatus. They are reinforced with backface soft armor beneath the composite nanolaminated crystal constructed from Duravlex-Duramyne-Polycene.
  • Skinsuit: Guardian powersuits feature a form-fitting vacuum-rated "skinsuit" commonly referred to as a "bodysuit" it is constructed of a mixture of Duravlex-Duramyne-Polycene-Crystarium layers with the former being closer to the skinsuit's exterior than the latter. It endows the user the mechanical advantages in strength, endurance and speed as a fully-blown exoskeleton without any of the bulk and is sufficient to protect the wearer from all wavelength of radiation, chemical and biological hazards. It is typically a few milimeters thick and sufficient alone to protect its' wearer from simple slashing or cutting melee weapons and low-velocity large-caliber firearms or slugthrowers. Although notably it isn't sufficiently resistant against directed energy threats to prevent injury. As its' outer layer is constructed from Duravlex it is fire-retardant, rendering its' user inflammable although this doesn't mean its' user should go wading through molten lava for any extended period of time despite the material properties on paper. There are several ports along its' surface for the intravenous administration of drugs and other stimulants so that its' atmospheric seal doesn't need to be breached for medical attention to be provided. There is a liquid waste recycling system onboard the skinsuit which allows it to turn urine into pure drinking water for the user increasing operational endurance. There are sophisticated environmental controls on-board the skinsuit which allow it to remain at room-temperature or atleast user body temperature in almost any environment for maximum performance and comfort.
  • Vambraces: Around the forearms are a pair of vambraces that fix themselves to the skinsuit through a sort of piston-port system preventing them from being blown free of the user. They are constructed from composite nanolaminated crystal featuring backface reinforcement constructed from layered Duravlex-Duramyne-Polycene to absorb kinetic energy and provide a level of protection against low-velocity kinetic projectiles. The entire vambrace is fire-retardant due to its' material construction. The vambraces feature a touchpad and redundant digital comlink to provide basic communication and input capability to an operator even in the absence of their helmet. Additionally one or both vambraces can be equipped with a suspension field generator/emitter an exotic piece of technology designed by the Gwerin Doeth to aid in defeating or apprehending opponents in close-quarters battle, slow industrial or commercial equipment and to aid in the providing of first aid and medical attention.

STRENGTHS
  • Composite nanolaminated crystal: Composite nanolaminated crystal is a Gwerin Doeth ultra-dense molecular-light material that forms the construction of all of the Powersuit's "hard armor" plates, the plates covering vital organs such as the torso and abdomen are several millimetres thick. Its' material properties leave it as highly protective against both ballistic and energy weapons. Its' melting point is so high that plasma weapons reliably fail to punch through its' extremely resilient and tough hide. It isn't a good conductor of thermal energy either so it does a spectacular job of keeping sensitive sub-systems and the wearer's skin-suit adequately insulated. Firearms don't fair any better in regards to the armor, the hardness, toughness and high yield strength generally means that even obnoxiously heavy and fast autocannon-sized munitions cannot penetrate the thick hide with the Polycene Gel capable of absorbing the transferred kinetic energy leaving the wearer unharmed.
  • Crystarium crystalline polymer: Every variant of the Guardian powersuit features a skintight form-fitting bodysuit that contains a layer of highly reactive piezoelectric superconductive Crystarium crystalline semi-rigid polymer that reacts to applied mechanical loads and generates power from the user's physical outputs. In short, it allows the Guardian powersuit to function similarly to a mechanical exoskeleton while retaining the silhouette of a traditional suit of armor. The weight of the powersuit is supported by this layer in the bodysuit and the user's physical outputs are dramatically increased with a quadrupling of their natural carrying capacity and a decrease of effective reaction time as the initial nervous system reactions to stimuli can be amplified into something useful in regards to combat. The manipulation and operation of extremely heavy weaponry is thus made significantly easier and it also has the effect of making the wearer extremely dangerous in close-quarters fighting providing them the physical strength and endurance necessarily to handily overwhelm even the largest humanoid species in the galaxy while fighting disarmed.
  • Disruptors: Disruptor weapons are a type of directed energy weapon feared for their instability and extremely powerful shots, the durability and resilience of the Guardian Powersuit's constituent materials and technologies endows it with a certain resistance to Disruptors. Most notably, a lone shot from such a weapon is generally insufficient to disable or neutralize the powersuit and its' wearer. However, a single shot from a disruptor rifle will generally be sufficient to severely deplete the photon shield's charge. Once the shield is offline Disruptors must contend with the composite nanolaminated crystal which is extremely dense and while very vulnerable to the weapons can generally survive a few shots before the hard armor is sufficiently disintegrated and damaged that integrity is entirely compromised.
  • Electro-magnetic camouflage: The Guardian powersuit's constituent parts are treated at the factory with EMS camouflage that helps to conceal the powersuit's emissions on the infrared and ultraviolet spectrums, making it extraordinarily difficult to detect using conventional electromagnetic scanners. A weakness the Guardian itself has overcome through the use of its' quantum photonic RADAR so wearers can still identify frienlies or otherwise wearing the powersuit through the environment.
  • Electro-magnetic pulses: Due to much of its' on-board computing being based upon photon-based quantum computers that the Gwerin Doeth widely use in lieu of traditional electron-based systems the Guardian Powersuit and all of its' variants are highly resistant to the effects of high energy electro-magnetic pulses or the debilitating effects of Ion or Ionite-based weapons. Certain elements of the Powersuit's on-board 'avionics suite' are still Electron-based and could be disrupted in the presence of a sufficiently powerful Electro-magnetic field, although it is quite difficult to say utterly disable the Powesuit.
  • Photon-based shielding: The Guardian Powersuit is equipped with an extremely powerful quantum-manipulated energy shield consisting of photons which have been 'tricked' into behaving like charged particles without some of the less desirable properties of electrons or protons. This Photon Shield is extremely resilient and the constituent photon molecules dramatically increase in density generating friction directly proportional to the amount of force applied at the point of impact creating a "hard" surface that can disperse and deflect ballistic projectiles, plasma-based projectiles and other hazards. The shield's constituent Photon molecules create a transparent veil around the user that prevents even atomic and sub-atomic threats from passing beyond it, offering protection from biological, chemical and radio-logical contaminants. One perculiar behavior the shield exhibits with Ballistic weapons is that ammunition which strikes the armor at an obtuse angle is often partially destroyed and ricochets off the surface in question, most traditional melee weapons are steadily damaged or destroyed when applied against the shield due to generated friction which super-heats the weapon in question until it vaporizes into a plasma. The Photon-based shield can withstand tremendous punishment before failing and recharges after a few seconds after the user's armor is no longer receiving damage.
  • Polycene hydrostatic gel: The bodysuit of the Guardian-series powersuits is equipped with a layer of dense polycene hydrostatic gel which is a semi-rigid material capable of hardening and plasticly deforming through an elevation or depression of the material's temperature respectively. Therefore, it can dramatically increase the time of deceleration of kinetic impacts protecting the user from high amounts of kinetic injury to the point where the Powersuit's wearer can feasibly survive hydrostatic shock created by very-high-velocity high-energy kinetic weapons such as anti-material grade firearms and very high falls unharmed should the material be subject to significant pressurization.
  • Suspension module: Guardian powersuits come equipped with a suspension module as standard, these powerful modules manipulate principles of quantum physics to create a suspension field at an effective range of 50-75 meters. The suspension module casts a beam of visible light towards an aimed target at which point the quantum manipulated photon particles create a super dense field which induces a dramatic time-dilation effect that lasts for upto fifteen seconds. Targets perceive movement and the world around as achieving and accelerating at impossible speeds while an observer not subjected to the field watches the target be consumed in a quantum silhouette and all subjects caught in the field move extraordinarily slowly. This can be chiefly used to subdue tightly packed groups of unarmed targets at ranges beneath 75 meters, slow down malfunctioning industrial equipment and used as an aid in providing first aid and life support to a casualty.
  • Synthesis brain-machine interface: Guardian powersuits feature compatibility with the Synthesis brain-machine interface allowing its' users to input their own thoughts into the powersuit's computer systems, permitting customization of firmware and software at will. Additionally it allows users of the powersuit equipped with a synthesis brain-machine interface to identify other personnel or individuals equipped with the same machine interface as friendly regardless of transmitted biographical or telemetry data. Making it practically impossible for an enemy combatant to successfully disguise themselves in uniform or armor as they'd generally lack the Synthesis brain-machine interface, additionally it allows for accurate telemetry tracking of friendly assets in the field reducing the chances of friendly-fire accidents.
WEAKNESSES
  • Assembly time: Guardian powersuits are cumbersome, heavy and sophisticated pieces of personal protective equipment as such they cannot be donned or removed with any ease. Several different tools are required for successful assembly and disassembly, in a sense the user is entombed within the powersuit and they cannot escape it readily. Making evading identification in many situations where it would be preferable not to be identified difficult. Additionally, quick assembly relies on special machine armory equipment. Assembling the powersuit by a user with hand tools requires a deep familiarity with the powersuit's design. However, the Sentinel variant is an exception to this rule and was designed specifically to be easy to equip and remove due to its' comparative lack of hard armor.
  • Breaches: It must seem like an oversight of such an advanced species that they did not implement some kind of self-repair mechanism into what is undoubtedly an extremely expensive piece of equipment designed and intended to protect a humanoid species that produce and consume extraordinary amounts of resources over their long lifetimes, but alas. The Guardian Powersuit features no method of self-repair under field conditions this quality extends to the bodysuit which if breached in a contaminated or vacuum environment could create complications capable of leading to serious bodily harm or even death.
  • Claustrophobia: The two eye lenses seen on all three helmet designs has the unintended effect of inducing feeling and ideations of claustrophobia into those individuals with a pre-existing anxiety or fear relating to claustrophobia.
  • Crystarium Polymer: While the Crystarium crystalline gel polymer gives the Guardian powersuit its' exoskeleton qualities it achieves this through the potentially hazardous amplification of physical inputs of the user, driving their body as they drive the bodysuit to move. The forces which the occupant's body experiences when at maximal exertion can be hazardous and potentially result in severe debilitating injuries such as fractures, while the Crystarium layer can withstand several metric tons of force per square inch the resultant amplification of physical output necessary to withstand this can result in the occupant's body being crushed.
  • Lightsabers: Despite the fact the powersuit's hard armor is constructed from composite nanolaminated crystal not even that ultra-dense nanolaminated material can withstand the blistering thermal energy generated by a lightsaber blade and it stands as perhaps among the only class of melee weapons which can slide through the hard plates as a hot knife through butter. The power of a lightsaber is so overwhelming that the weapons utterly overload the photon-based shield unlike most melee weapons which are liable to melt against it.
  • Shield limitations: There are significant flaws relating to Gwerin Doeth shielding technology firstly in the sense that its' photon particles are so tightly knit that no object, contaminant or weapon can penetrate its' envelope regardless of low velocity. This presents some practical difficulties in regards to movement for example the shield cannot be present or active under the soles of boots as this would generate molecular friction and super-heated temperatures as the shield attempts to foolishly destroy the floor. Or the knee would generate friction against itself slowing running speed. As a result, the shield is necessarily offline in some locations namely: palms, soles and the rear of knee. This leaves the user's lower limbs vulnerable against anti-personnel mines for example that are buried beneath soil. Additionally, in confined spaces it is often necessary to disable entire sections of the shield entirely to prevent it from being trained by unnecessary interdiction.
  • Sonic weapons: Unfortunately due to the material properties of the composite nanolaminated crystal which forms the basis for much of the powersuit's most protective hard armor the sonic waves fired by sonic blasters move through the materials at extreme velocities without much difficulty meaning that these weapons can blast straight through the armor without having to actually physically breach it which is a difficult proposition. However, the shield will react with the sonic waves but this gives the targets who wield these types of weapons a much higher chance of disabling an opponent wearing a Guardian powersuit when their shields are offline.
  • Polycene Gel: Polycene while highly effective at absorbing the kinetic energy from ballistic projectiles and other related threats physical breaches to the suit can compromise the integrity of its' protective qualities. Additionally, plasma weapons that repeatedly impact the Powersuit even non-penetrating hits can threaten to increase the Polycene's temperature to a level which is hazardous for the user potentially forcing the material to be vented lest the bodysuit cook the occupant alive. However venting the Polycene robs the powersuit's bodysuit of its' protective qualities. While it technically allows a wearer to survive the rigors of a vacuum it accomplishes this by dramatically increasing the bodysuit's internal pressure to keep the wearer's constituent biological tissue from disintegrating into the cold void of space. Under such conditions there is a risk that venal or arterial nitrogen or other gas embolisms can form in the wearer's bloodstream, arterial embolisms particularly are highly dangerous and can result in the wearer's organs particularly the heart to fail resulting in a painful demise. It should be noted that Polycene is also responsible for absorbing hazardous amounts of thermal energy, when in the unlikely event that its' thermal capacity threatens to boil the skinsuit's wearer alive or reaches its' thermal energy capacity it must be vented although this robs the wearer of its' beneficial qualities.
  • Weighty: Most variants of the Guardian Powersuit are considerably heavy and while this doesn't inhibit the user per say as their bodysuit supports the weight of such a colossal ensemble it does present difficulties in some terrestrial environments under the influence of a standard gravitational field. For example, you would be hard-pressed to find ice that would comfortably support a user and their one-hundred and ninety kilograms of Power-suit without having its' integrity compromised this creates difficulties for moving large bodies of equipped troops through precarious environments on foot. Additionally, it can make casualty-drags and movement more hazardous for users especially if their rescuer is not wearing such a Powersuit as the rescuer would have to contend with the user's mass in addition to the powersuit's.

DESCRIPTION
The Guardian Powersuit was designed, engineered and originally constructed exclusively by what would become the Ellylon Republic during the Gwerin Commonwealth's war with the ancient Rakata as a replacement for the aging Advanced Soldier Ensemble which had been designed and manufactured by the preceding Unified Gwerin Ecumene. The Guardian Armor was supposed to be far more protective at the cost of significantly higher mass resulting in a significant tactical and operational drawback where troops wearing Guardian Armor could not be permitted to serve alongside units wearing Arrester Armor as casualty evacuation could become difficult and unnecessarily dangerous due to the Guardian Armor's two protective variants being extremely heavy. As a powersuit the Guardian Powersuit provides its' wearer with significant augmentations to endurance, strength and speed. It accomplishes this through the implementation of a material called "Crystarium" which was developed for the exclusive purpose of creating exoskeletons without the bulk of hydraulic systems allowing the resultant platforms to have the appearance of a more traditional combat armor. Crystarium amplifies the wearer's physical outputs dramatically as its' state of matter changes dynamically from amorphous semi-rigid polymer to hard superconductive crystalline geometries generating power in reaction to an applied mechanical load and plastic deforms when an electric current is applied to it. The Crystarium generally amplifies the user's carrying capacity to quadruple of its' base value and significantly reduces effective reaction time as the material amplifies the reaction to stimuli making the wearer's movements and reflex all the more keen and agile.

Polycene like Crystarium is implemented into the powersuit's skinsuit and is responsible for providing beneficial hydrostatic and kinetic energy absorbing properties to the powersuit. The polycene material is an extremely dense semi-rigid amorphous material. When the material is subjected to kinetic stresses the skinsuit increases the pressure of the polycene forcing the layer to harden but remains extremely flexible increasing the time of deceleration and therefore the total force applied to the humanoid wearing a bodysuit equipped with a layer of the material is stretched over a greater time, this allows the skinsuit and its' wearer to withstand and survive massive amounts of hydrostatic and kinetic force that would normally break bones, herniate organs and rupture circulatory system structures. The Guardian skinsuit's polycene layer is sufficient to help the wearer survive falls upto several thousand metera although this requires massive pressurization of the polycene gel which places the wearer's physiology under immense strain and risks the formation of nitrogen or other gas embolisms within the circulatory system which can result in a wide variety of symptoms and even death. Duramyne is implemented into the skinsuit's construction to give it the physical means to stop low-velocity firearm, slugthrower or other ballistic projectiles with the skinsuit's outer-most layer being the coating of Duravlex on its' surface for flame retardation.

There is a number of sophisticated technologies implemented into the Guardian powersuit including a quantum computer which has a photonic processor housed within the skinsuit's layers over the back between the shoulder blades that can communicate with the wearer's nervous system through a brain-machine interface should they be wearing a helmet giving the powersuit's wearer an unprecedented level of input with the powersuit's computer systems able to customize their on-board software at will. The quantum computer is also responsible for manipulating the environmental control system and uses it to monitor the wearer's body temperature along with the ambient temperature and makes adjustments as necessary to keep the user at maximal performance with a typical powersuit temperature ranging from eighteen to twenty-four degrees Celsius widely considered the range of maximum comfort for most humanoid species. Additionally there is an automated defibrillator unit that the quantum computer is responsible for activating chiefly where there is evidence of cardiac or atrial fibrillation. For the administration of drugs, stimulants and other medical substances there are a number of intravenous ports located across the skinsuit's surface so that its' atmospheric seal doesn't need to breach for effective delivery of the aforementioned materials. Because it is so difficult to assemble and disassemble for the wearer the Guardian powersuit is intended to be worn for days at a time and as such is equipped with a fluid waste recycling system that converts its' wearers urine into pure drinking water.

Protection is premium for the powersuit and its' "hard armor" components are constructed from laser-cut plates of composite nanolaminated crystal these hard armor plates vary in thickness according to potential damage to vital organs. Naturally, the cuirass is the thickest piece of armor and is notable for its' backplate featuring a segmented spinal column with the segmented pieces folding closed into a solid piece to prevent spinal injuries or paralysis from explosive waves. Composite nanolaminated crystal is extremely resilient and effectively resists a plethora of directed energy and kinetic-based threats for example the melting point of composite nanolaminated crystal is over fifteen thousand degrees Celsius and this is easily enough to withstand prolonged punishment from a wide variety of plasma weapons without failing. Likewise, its' extremely hard and tough when forged and even very thin samples can withstand more than 20,000 joules of kinetic energy making it highly resistant to most conventional gunpowder firearms, slugthrowers and ballistic weapons. This resistance naturally extends to the like of mass drivers and verpine shatter guns. Most of the hard armor features "soft armor" backface reinforcement constructed from the same materials as the skinsuit, to protect the skinsuit itself from the threat of penetration by spall fragments created by high-velocity non-penetrating kinetic impacts that strike the hard composite nanolaminated crystal armor.

Active protection is a key part of the Guardian Powersuit's capabilities and it features a Photon-based energy shield system that is maintained by a number of shield emitters and magnets scattered throughout the powersuit's armored plating creating a transparent but solid veil across the armor plating that only becomes visible in the form of bands of brilliant glowing cerulean light across its' surface signalling the movement of particles. Unlike electrons and electrical-based energy shield systems the shield system does not have any increased vulnerability to ion or ionite based weapons and these energy weapons are about as effective as standard plasma-based blasters when applied against the shielding technology. The shield's constituent photon particles interact with any object pressed against the shield's veil and like spiders in a web they converge on the point of impact and increase the amount of friction generated against them in direct proportion to the force applied, ergo. Punching the shield would leave the protected object unharmed but might singe the skin and hairs away but a bullet striking it would be vaporized and whisked away harmlessly by the photon's orbit. The use of photons as the particles within an energy shield is accomplished through the designers deep understanding regarding quantum mechanics and effects, however it does have some limitations. As the shield is functionally a dense but transparent field of photons that generate friction against all outside projectiles regardless of velocity it is necessary that the shield does not cover certain surfaces to maintain combat effectiveness and movement. These surfaces commonly include the palms of the hands otherwise the shield would burn held weapons, the rear of knees so that movement when running isn't slowed or impaired and the soles of feet which renders the wearer vulnerable to anti-personnel and due to the powersuit's weight anti-tank mines.
