[ An SJO Mission at Ossus ]

The shields that protected Ossus – the few that were still operational – powered down for the last time. After suffering a loss to the First Order, the Silver Jedi had to face the aftermath. Standing outside the Jedi Temple once more, Valae Kitra heaved a sigh. It was truly the end of an era. This was to be the Order’s final official visit to the jungle-world. Despite the shadow of their defeat, the Silver Jedi would look forward to the future.

It was time to move on.

Ossus would be leaving the Silver Jedi’s influence, but there was still work to be done. Glancing skyward, Valae brought a hand up to shield her eyes. [member="Arisa Yune"] would be arriving soon. And with her, there would be a brand new future waiting for the people of Ossus. The Silver Jedi would assist with relocating the force-sensitive races that lived here, they would become some of the first to occupy a new space station.

As she understood it, there was also a party heading into the mountains today. There was a stubborn tribe that still needed convincing, but they were lucky to have a Ysannan among their numbers -- she would be leading that expedition. Looking down at her datapad, she knew that efforts would already be underway at Knossa to start evacuating the public. The ships would be ready to receive passengers in preparation for their short trip to the station.

The weight of the situation was present on Valae's shoulders, but she had hope for the Order. There was always room for hope.

Kaiza Pawaro

Do, or do not. There is no try.
Kaiza hoped no asteroids would be dropped on her head today. After all, Imps did seem to have a knack for overly destructive ways of waging wars and striking out of nowhere. Being forced to retreat from Ossus had left a sour taste in her mouth, something she was currently fixing by drinking deeply from her canteen. Although circumstances were grim, Kaiza focused on the little things, finding small joys in simplicity - such as the lack of heavy armour on her body. The extra weight and inability to feel fresh air brush against her skin no longer concerned the Mirialan. After so many battles, wearing ordinary, plain robes presented an untold luxury most never realized.

Instead of helping with the evacuation of civilians, she had opted to join an expedition deep into the jungle and convince a tribe into joining others on their way to safety. Carrying only the most necessary supplies, the petite girl feared no danger and shunned no hardships – anything was better than war. On the other hand, she looked forward to finally sticking it back to the Sith and kicking Darth Carnifex’ undead ass all the way to the First Order. Toying with such crazy ideas has always offered a way to escape the hopeless reality and although she wasn’t running away from it, everyone needed a break every once in a while.

Defeating never helped anybody – and so the yellow hued girl put her truth in the Force and Grandmaster Valae. Wiser and more experienced Jedi would surely find a way of rekindling hope and compassion in the galaxy.

Soft, slouchy boots that remembered Mirial’s soil faithfully accompanied Kaiza on her trip, traversing over rocks and bare earth alike. Although the jungle’s humidity desperately tried to dissuade the expedition from traversing any further, the weather was not bad. After sipping her health tonic, Kaiza gave a refreshed sigh of relief and returned the trusty canteen back to her belt, watching the tall, green wall of trees and foliage. Bright sunrays often managed to penetrate the leaves and shine through, creating a sight to behold. Almost as if Ossus wanted to give them its farewell.

A short-lived smile crossed her face and she pushed forth, eager to meet this stubborn tribe.

Yuroic had landed on Ossus with his emotions in turmoil, it was a bitter and crippling defeat from the First Order. However, it was also a victory for Yuroic as his beloved, Jairdain, returned to his side. Giving a deep sigh, Yuroic watched as the Jedi retreated from the world. He was sure that there would be many natives asking why could the Jedi no longer stay and why we were retreating. It was difficult to say, but he figured from the attacks of the First Order and the Galactic Empire, they needed to regroup and adjust their focus. He was wearing his dark brown Jedi robes with his tattered cloak. Adjusting the position of his sabers, he spotted Grand Master Kitra, looking up at the sky.

He headed over and greeted her. "Greetings Master Kitra. I know we lost this and several other areas from our influence, however, I think we can come back stronger. In fact I know we will. One day we will return to Ossus, better than before, and better prepared." Yuroic gave a short bow before leaving her, even though the temple had been cleared out, he still wished to explore it one last time. To see the temple before they left.

Wandering down the path to the temple on his own, he gave his own thoughts freedom to roam. He had heard whispers of a pirate world that was a secret with the potential to have a Jedi Temple, much closer to Voss than the other worlds. It was deeper in Wild Space, and he had no solid leads but perhaps there was something in the Ossus temple. The one on Voss had not provided any useful information. Yuroic reached the main chamber of the temple and looked around with a deep heart-felt sadness. His hand touched the stone work and he closed his eyes. Allowing a single tear to fall from his eye.

Roona Osmari

Roona waited by the trailhead, arms crossed tightly.

It was bad enough that her own tribe would be leaving their home-world, but now she had to try and convince others to go, too. However, when she thought about the alternatives… she figured that things could be much, much worse. The Ysannan no longer needed to be the protectors of Ossus, they had already failed in this task many times. It was a fact that most modern tribes, including her own, had come to recognize by now. But the ones that stayed steeped in the old ways would be difficult to sway.

For her own part, she still felt a measure of guilt. Roona had not been on Ossus during the attack, and she still struggled with the fact that she’d done little to hold off the attack. Of course, she recognized that she could not have turned the tide by herself. The thoughts of ‘what if’ lingered with her longer than they should have.

Sea-green eyes gazed down the trail and to the mountain that stood in the distance. It wouldn’t be a leisurely hike, and so she had come prepared with a pack full of supplies. Today she did not wear her armor, but a simple outfit that consisted of a tank top, cargo pants, utility belt, and boots. Of course, she rarely left home unarmed, and today was no exception. But she came only with a heavy blaster; she didn’t expect that she would need it. But it was best to be safe.

Turning, she spotted the form of a young woman approaching. The Ysannan offered the green-skinned girl a simple nod as a greeting, and a quick "Hello." It wouldn't be long before the rest of their group had arrived.

Cassius had just signed up for his voluntary tour of duty with the Silver Jedi Order as a pilot roughly a week ago. Other than getting a very brief orientation, he hadn’t done much other than run patrols and live on a frigate. When they had been rerouted to Ossus, he’d felt apprehensive, but also glad to break the monotony. Fortune had struck again when instead of helping evacuate the locals and probably having to deal with all kinds of passenger mix-ups, he had the opportunity to volunteer for a special mission deep into the jungle.

It seemed simple – contact a tribe that refused to go and try and convince them. Cassius’s role would be as their evac pilot: he had a transceiver that, once activated, would have an auto-piloted transport come and land at the nearest open area. Then all he would have to do was get them out of there. He’d gotten the assignment, mostly because the other pilots weren’t keen on hiking through the jungle just to talk to a bunch of “backwards idiots who were probably going to get killed anyways”, as one of the other pilots had put it.

To Cassius, it was an opportunity. For one, it would probably be a quieter assignment. He couldn’t imagine the absolute chaos at the starports right now, and he wanted no part of that. Also, it peaked his budding archaeological interest. He wasn’t just interested in bones and artifacts; it was other cultures and people that he wanted to study.

So, the young Jedi pilot found himself walking up to the group, seeing only two women gathered at the meeting point so far. He wasn’t wearing his typical Jedi garb, or even his flight suit today: he had on his black boots, forest green fatigues, and a utility belt. A camouflage-painted pack, loaded with more supplies than he probably needed, sat on his back. His friends back home would always make fun of him for how much he packed on survival training missions, but he would always have food, and they would sometimes run out. It was worth it to be prepared, he always thought.

As always, his A180 blaster was strapped to his thigh, and his lightsaber on his left hip, the only indication that he was anything other than a pilot or soldier.

He gave curt nods to the two women already there, figuring one of them was Sergeant [member="Roona Osmari"]. Almost introducing himself, he stopped. Everything would be explained in due time. He just had to be patient.

TL;DR:
Cassius walked up.

Yuroic wandered through the temple, his eyes looking over the stone walls. His hands touched over walls as he sensed the many Jedi who visited the temple over the hundred of years. Ossus had always been a welcoming home for the Jedi, to lose it was a great lost. Yuroic reluctantly pulled away and took a deep breath. We shall return one day. Stronger. Yes, stronger. However, Yuroic had a need for a knowledge, rumours of a hidden planet near the Silver Jedi territory. Perhaps it could be a great help to Jedi.

His robes whistled as he moved quickly around the temple towards what was left of the archives. Shifting the door open, he looked around. Studying the many different books and holocrons on planets, being on the edge of the galaxy there wasn't much early records detailing on the Wild Space. Yuroic rubbed his temples, it was stressing that there was so little information. Having met several slaves claiming to have come from a planet not none to Yuroic, he was desperate to liberate a planet.

Shifting from the uncomfortable seat, he growled in frustration. While there were signs that many planets previously unmapped in Wild Space, he couldn't find more modern galactic maps.

Colonel Valkren Calderon carefully pushed his way out of the nearby brush. It was rather difficult, switching from a full suit of Katarn combat armor, to a much lighter take on his equipment. Only sporting a tight fitting tan 'Tee with a combat harness pulled over top of his torso, plus black combat boots and kneepads atop of his grey BDU's. His patrol cap was pulled tightly over his short cut hair, with a communication headset atop of that to keep it held down, and to remain in contact with one of their only rides out of the area. Without his full suit of armor, and only sporting the short sleeve tee, the ink and art that covered most of Valk's body was displayed in a small portion today, only his arms being visible, with the exception of the edge of a tattoo that looked as if it began to creep up the right side of his neck.

He gripped his assault ripper tightly, removing a gloved hand from the stock of the weapon to push aside a branch so he could get a better view of what was ahead of him. Eventually the young officer made his way into the clearing, where three others were already waiting for him.

"Oh, kark me.." It wasn't like the ranger to be late, especially when the search party included one of his own. He relaxed his posture slightly, letting the sling that connected the stock of his rifle to his chest rig take most of the weight of the weapon, using one hand to keep it from bouncing around too much as he approached the group. It was..Strange, to say the least, seeing Sergeant Osmari without her Katarn armor. It gave Valkren the impression of innocence, even though he knew full and well that wasn't the case.

Every Ranger was a hardened killing machine, and he knew Echo was among the best.

"Sergeant, good to see you again." The young colonel stated, offering her a nod and a smile before shifting his gaze to the others.

"I see we have a good sized party here, then. Colonel Valkren Calderon, pleasure to run with ya'll."

Kaiza Pawaro

Do, or do not. There is no try.
“Hi.” Kaiza replied somewhat sheepishly, eyes leaving the green empire of trees and turning towards the brunette with a toothy smile. Spying on the blaster, emerald eyes blinked, the lack of a lightsaber fully realized. A strong enough hint the olive-skinned wasn’t a Jedi per-se, rather serving as a ranger. For the Jedi Padawan who was used to being accompanied by others of her order, it presented an interesting and refreshing change.

Soon enough, the Padawan no longer was the only Jedi around – and although the man’s apparel said nothing about his allegiance, the characteristic cylinder on his hip proudly announced its owner’s true identity. As before, the golden-hued girl offered a warm grin, hopeful to brighten up the man’s day a bit. Compassion held especially great value among friends and family; the young Mirialan wished to help her fellow Jedi and soldiers get through these difficult times.

And finally a battle hardened veteran by the looks of it, his imposing appearance further strengthened by the deadly weapon in hands. Kaiza found herself relieved to be on his side. It also became painfully obvious the Mirialan was by far the youngest, shortest, and least experienced member of the expedition. Not exactly a pleasing realization, albeit it meant she had much to learn – and there was no shame in observing more skilled and experienced people.

Two Jedi, two rangers. An even mix, definitely allowing for interesting interactions on their way to the tribe. Guessing they have assembled in the entirety, it was likely a good time for introductions. Kaiza went after the colonel, wasting no time.

“Padawan Kaiza Pawaro. Nice to meet you.” The Mirialan said softly and bowed slightly in a traditional Jedi fashion.

[member="Roona Osmari"] was leading an expedition to try to convince tribes the locals of this planet to relocate, in order to be protected from the Sith that could come back for them. With what they knew about these people, they valued might. Knowing it was possible that might may be needed to pull this off, Master DragonsFlame had decided to come along. He was the Republic Jedi's one-time Blademaster after all, he had the experience that might prove to be a boon to convincing them. He had recovered from his injuries against the Master Of Ren Kyrel Ren, and it was a given that the first thing he'd want to do when getting back to work would be to help Ossus in any way that he could.

The Jedi Master would arrive at the meeting point, and noted that several others had already arrived. Bowing first to Osmari, he would greet the group with a warm smile, looking from Osmari, then to [member="Kaiza Pawaro"] and then to [member="Valkren Calderon"] and [member="Cassius Droma"] he could tell from a glance that the group was far from outgunned if the need for might was right. He had to wonder if he was even needed here... If needed he supposed he could always move to another objective. But he'd chosen to come here due to his experience.

"Master DragonsFlame, a pleasure to meet you all" He would introduce with courtesy. "Are we ready to set off?"
