Dunames Lopez

Megalomaniac CEO of Star Tours
After this disastrous campaign led into the Stygian Caldera by the Silver Jedi, the Sith Order is in de facto control of the Stygian Caldera. But even though Star Tours is associated mostly with the First Order, Dunames still had a soft spot for that one Sith Lord that the Star Tours Guide to Force Specialties depicted as a Light Sith, at least in its rough draft. Or, more accurately, a Ren Seneschal, which is the Knights of Ren equivalent of a Sith Lord. Clearly Dunames knew that, while Ziost holds a special place in dark-sider history, it did not hold the symbolic value Korriban had. With Frank Mallidan now doing his thing on Lanteeb, Dunames had to deal with a bunch of dark-siders who hired an AT-AT barge to visit the Stygian Caldera. She feels uncomfortable, and, knowing the passengers, they mostly wish to feast on the power of the dark side. The NFUs may have had twisted reasons to even go to Ziost in the first place.

"Look at all these dark-siders we have onboard today! It's a miracle they didn't fight each other!"

"We're about to land, captain" Merrily told Dunames in the cockpit.

"Please fasten your seatbelt and place your seats in an upright position. Also, please stow your carry-on items beneath your seats. Crewmembers will pass to check that your carry-on baggage is properly stowed and that your trays are properly folded. We will be landing in a few minutes. Thank you"

Of course Darth Veles travelled with the amazing [member="Dunames Lopez"], using her Star Tours to reach the ancient Sith world; little more than a barren, frozen wasteland to most, a precious well of knowledge to Sith like him. He had been there a long time ago, a mere acolyte – now it was high time to revisit Ziost and dig deep into its frozen tundra, see what secrets festered in its depths. Truly, the assassin found it impossible not to poke in old Sith matters when it came to long-lost tombs and similar places, obsessed with faithless artifacts and spells. The presence of others skilled in the dark side did not disturb him; Veles knew they were going to fail in their endeavours, for only those truly fluent in dark arts succeeded. One wouldn’t be able to tell though – the assassin’s presence in the Force refused to be spotted by prying minds, granting Veles complete anonymity in that aspect. For now, the amphibious Sith Lord completely ignored other passengers, his mind devoted solely to going over a few notes concerning a ritual he had pried from Darth Zash.

When Dunames’ melodic voice washed over the passengers through the intercoms, Veles blinked, mind suddenly torn out of a completely different realm, one dealing with subjects non-Force sensitives wouldn’t understand. Back in the present, he obeyed, looking at others as he did so. Who were they, anyway? Only the Force offered an answer to that question, its murky surface positively branding the lot as Veles’ competition. Needless to say, Veles’ trust never extended to other dark side practitioners, prompting the Mon Cal to always be on guard and watch his back once on Ziost. An awful lot of accidents could happen to the unwary – he, too, didn’t want to share Sith knowledge with anyone, meaning many were undoubtedly going to get lost in the cold, icy winds reigning over the planet.

But all in due time. Shutting his big bulbous eyes closed, he leaned back in the seat and felt the transport’s descent. Fires of excitement and eagerness started to burn in his gut in anticipation of things to come, feeling the powerful dark side nexus massage his senses like a lover. This inner warmth would soon clash with the cold, inhospitable weather; only his heavy cloak served as protection against Ziost' unforgiving nature. For one reason or another, Veles looked forward to surviving upon the barren surface, taking the insane challenge as a test.

No one would ever think that one of the passengers would take a personal liking to Dunames in person. His name? Avreet, better known as [member="Darth Veles"]. He is a rather famous fixture in dark-sider space especially after the Sith Inquisitor, a tabloid magazine, regularly featured him as some sort of Light Sith, and their Ziost office had to take over temporarily for the employees of that publication that normally worked in Korriban City, but due to Charzon's crimes, were forced to work on Ziost instead. Then again, Dunames also featured in the Sith Inquisitor on at least three occasions: after she deployed a ski resort on Hoth featuring six expert-level alpine skiing trails, built an horror-themed amusement park out of a dark-sided Force-nexus, and made an attempt to throw highly dangerous waste down Quintas' black hole. Even though she cannot use the Force, nothing is too morbid for Dunames and Star Tours. If she had to guess, roughly half the passengers were dark-siders looking for forbidden knowledge and power. Far from it a Beaches of the Dark Side destination, due to Ziost's cold temperature, it was the maiden flight of the Forbidden Dark Tour service.

"We have arrived at our destination. Please remain seated until the captain has opened the exit door. You may then unlatch your safety restaints by pressing the release button on your left. Make sure you have all your personal belongings as you exit" Merrily told the passengers, while later leaving the PA system to Dunames.

"On behalf of the crew, thank you for flying the Forbidden Dark Tour by Star Tours and we hope to see you again soon!"

Dunames, having purchased a semi-automatic MR-74 slugthrower, was a NFU all right, and she purchased the MR-74 because it would provide protection against some aggressive Sith Lords from range. Also she learned that bigger bullets would resist lightsaber blows better so a slugthrower firing 12.7x108s, like the MR-74, with a magazine containing 15 rounds, would be welcome. She was a rather good shot, and armor-piercing rounds would enable her to pierce up to 25mm of duracrete-strength armor. Plus her extra mass would allow her to fire it shoulder-fired whereas most people would need to lie prone to fire it. Because she knew Ziost was a maze for the dark-siders, she knew that she needed to expect Sith at every turn and a few of them to be hostile. She wore some thermal armorweave suit thinking that it would keep her warm and cozy while she travels the frozen wastelands alongside Avreet.

Finally! He could practically taste the dark side once they touched the planet’s frozen surface. A wonderful feeling, similar to visiting a long-lost friend. Was it nostalgia that seized his senses or merely the Sith Lord’s unquenchable lust for power? Driven by the powerful feeling, tightly wrapped into his heavy cloak, black hood cast over the large Mon Calamari head head, Veles stepped out and immediately felt the cold permeate him right to his bones. Tiny snowflakes disturbed by the transport’s landing furiously swirled about, Veles’ breath visible in form of white clouds leaving from under his cowl. Filling his lungs with freezing air, the assassin started his slow pace forward, so far without a purposeful direction guiding his steps, and looked to his side, hearing heavy footsteps crunching in the snow.

Her purple hair and porcelain white skin certainly made the woman stand out if not for the unusual choice of weapon. Giving her an inquisitive stare accompanied by a smooth smile, Veles wondered about the female’s interest in Ziost – and her apparent decision to come with him. Fortunately, her presence in the Force spoke about no training or connection, meaning Veles might just spare her in the future. Subtle and strangely silent taps emitted beneath his boots as he marched across the snowy landscape, getting away from other Force users and waiting until they dispersed, unwilling to let any follow him. In that time, he pivoted on his heel and turned to face the Star Tours’ CEO.

“Is there something for us to discuss, my friend? Or are you simply interested in old Sith relics?”

Not that he'd blame [member="Dunames Lopez"] for that particular interest.

Dunames Lopez

Megalomaniac CEO of Star Tours
"Some of these Sith relics should be exposed for the galaxy to see, and the First Order would probably want Sith relics exposed in locations that are likely to see a significant number of dark-siders visiting them. Like that amusement park in a cemetery on Jiroch-Reslia or in the Ren citadel on Virgilia 7. Regardless other such relics should stay on Ziost: dark-siders often roam the surface of Ziost to feast on the powers of the dark side they contain. I know the Star Tours Guide to Force Specialties can sometimes be inaccurate but it has helped several NFUs better understand what light and dark-siders did"

She overheard several passengers talk about holocrons, weapons, armors, and other items The items that can help teach Force-powers should be in the Ren citadel on Virgilia 7, while the other items should be exposed on Jiroch-Reslia, she thought. Now, as she steps onto the snowy, frozen surface of Ziost, she keeps the anti-materiel rifle on her back, knowing that said anti-materiel rifle was almost as long as she was tall, and that it was loaded with big bullets (12.7x108), bigger than what is usual for people using slugthrowers to hunt hostile Sith Lords: said slugthrowers can also destroy a swoop at 100m. As she was about to embark on a journey across the frozen lands of Ziost in her quest for Sith artifacts to be returned to First Order-land. Quite a long way to go, but while the other dark-siders went on their merry way across New Adasta meditate among the embrace of the dark side, Dunames closely followed Avreet. The next advertisement for the Forbidden Dark Tour would say Come feast on the power of the dark side of the Force, or do cross-country skiing, it's all on Ziost, from Star Tours. Or something similar.

[member="Darth Veles"]

Veles’ burning eyes accepted the answer coldly, regarding Dunames with a mixture of disbelief and suspicion. Her desire to commercially abuse Sith artifacts was heretical enough, nonchalantly revealing her plans to a Sith Lord even more so. Only the Mon Cal’s restraint spared Lopez a painful punishment for such bold ideas, as Veles understood those not blessed with the Force could rarely comprehend what it meant to control the dark side. Raising his webbed hand, the Darth wiggled his finger in a warning he did not intend to repeat – and fully expected the purple haired woman to get his point and spare him more absurd plans.

“I am not a part of the First Order,” his glare turned into a hard frown, “And neither are you. Do not speak as if you want to further its interests when all you care about is making more credits.”

The mere thought of placing Sith heritage in some amusement park to increase its profits irritated him greatly, fuelling that furnace of anger burning inside his heart. It was quite insulting to Veles, really, worse than a slap in the face. Letting his hand fall, the Sith spun around, cloak wildly billowing in defiance, and marched across the frozen land without any regard to discomfort. As he walked, cane rhythmically tapping the icy ground, Veles’ smooth voice travelled to Dunames again, now exhibiting signs of calmness and patience.

“Sith relics are meant to be used by those powerful enough to wield them, not to collect dust and be gawked upon like cheap attractions. Whatever we discover on Ziost will fall into my care."

"That being said, for you to bring back one item or two would be just fine. But the other idea that you would have found absurd would have essentially been a repeat of Hoth, were it to be carried out, so I ultimately decided against it. Nevertheless, New Adasta is still a city for those who want to know more about the history of the dark side, if not feast in its power, so that's better than nothing"

Everyone familiar with Hoth's alpine ski resort, as deployed by Star Tours, knows about the fact that no one could go down more than one slope before having to return indoors for heat, and that only a half-dozen expert-level ski trails are possible. And the mountains of Ziost that are capable of supporting ski resorts with the kinds of ski slopes Sith Lords would want to go down, are nearly identical in this respect. Better not market the Forbidden Dark Tour as one's gateway to forbidden artifacts, she thought. But as she went through the frozen wastelands of Ziost, she knew that some history buffs among the NFUs would still be interested in the history of the dark side, including but not limited to, those people whose midichlorian counts are not quite high enough to be able to use the Force (much like Jessica's childhood test was later ruled a false-negative after living out her life as a NFU: now she is the mascot of the Jedi in Confederate service). It seemed as if NFUs with higher midichlorian counts were more likely to develop an interest in the Force, especially those in the false-negative risk zone.

"Now, do you have any idea where you would start to look for a Sith artifact?"

[member="Darth Veles"]

“I am sorry, how is this connected to Hoth?” asked the amphibious Sith, completely clueless as evidenced by his tone, eyes never quite leaving this invisible trail he had treaded upon. Trust was a commodity he rarely traded with, even now – one could not really speak of trust. Confidence, rather – the Dark lord trusted his abilities enough to let the heavily armed woman walk behind him. She lacked the Force, after all, establishing herself as no threat to him. Naturally, should she try to betray him, Veles was ready and keeping her at his blade’s length, always too cautious and paranoid to completely disregard treachery. This trait came with being a Sith lord, a Banite, similarly to how the purple-haired megalomaniac went hand in hand with greed and lust for more.

“We’ll simply listen to the dark side.”

By that he obviously meant himself. Suppressing a fresh smile creeping into his expression, even though his companion would not be able to see it anyway, the Darth fell silent for a moment, eyeing the dangerous wasteland they had to traverse through. After several seconds, he finally turned his head and gazed at [member="Dunames Lopez"].

“And if all else fails, blood will show us the way.”

With that ominous comment, the Sith lord continued to walk in his mysterious direction, leading both somewhere far north and not stopping once. All trail left behind soon vanished beneath fresh snow chaotically swirled around by ice cold winds. The freezing temperature soon penetrated the Mon Cal’s heavy robe and mercilessly assassinated all remnants of warmth left underneath, turning the trip into a wonderful fight for survival, challenging nature itself and daring it to curse him with its freezing spells.

Dunames Lopez

Megalomaniac CEO of Star Tours
"By now you know that Hoth and Ziost both freeze people the same. The ski resort on Hoth has earned a reputation in First Order territory to be a destination for those who seek thrill at any cost; most complaints about the ski resort on Hoth are about how people couldn't go down more than one slope before needing to return indoors for heat. For this reason a ski resort on Ziost wouldn't work, especially since Ziost isn't as well-known among the general public"

After being led due north by Darth Veles, Dunames found herself up against the limits of the thermal features of her armorweave coat as she saw Avreet tremble before the sheer cold of the planet. The purple-haired megalomaniac was also feeling that the race for survival would amount to something out in the frozen wastelands of Ziost, while the other passengers that boarded her flight either went on the lookout for Sith artifacts or just went to the monuments, museums and libraries of New Adasta, depending on whether they had any talent with the dark side of the Force or not. But perhaps the silver lining for this whole trip would come under the form of an item that Dunames obviously cannot gauge whether there really is any dark side presence in it, that stands out amid the snow fields that they tramped through and that, hopefully, she could find her way back due south from where the duet stood.

"There seems to be something protruding from the snow. Does it contain any trace of the dark side of the Force?"

[member="Darth Veles"]

Nothing but a sizable, pristine white mound of snow. Easy to miss from afar. Was this the reason Veles’s been sub-consciously drawn here? His steady pace stopped, no longer interrupting the cruel howling of flesh-tearing winds. Both eyes measured the object [member="Dunames Lopez"] had noticed, almost as if burning right through the snowy cover with his searing amber glare. Only after getting hold of his thoughts and putting reality back together, silencing the dark side, the amphibious Darth turned his large head to look at the Star Tours CEO.

“The entire planet is a nexus. But yes. The dark side’s currents are strong in this place.” He acknowledged, trying to hide his excitement of being on Ziost. Such power dwelled within its very core, he could almost touch it! Simply sensing it was most exhilarating, especially for a Sith.

A moment later, Veles cautiously approached the mysterious object as if expecting treachery. Snow and ice crystals cracked and crunched beneath his boots, a painfully dragged out sound as the Mon Cal advanced slowly, carefully, webbed hand reaching out in a motion that suggested Veles desired to touch this strange monument. The Sith wasn’t foolish enough to do so though – disturbing Sith spirits in their eternal slumber had killed many and Veles had no intention of adding to that disturbingly high number. Instead of giving it a physical touch, the Sith Lord reached through the Force, his presence brushing against the object’s shape and signature.

It definitely held power, tingling Veles’ skin with electricity-like sensations.

Daring to take another step forward, the Sith Lord’s cybernetic hand penetrated the frozen cover of snow, brushing it away until he hit ice. Through its transparent window, Veles’ orange eyes spotted what suspiciously reminded him of the old Sith architecture, impressively preserved and likely forgotten.

“Come closer. Look! Isn’t it beautiful? An old remnant of the extinct red skinned species if I am right.” Veles excitedly summoned Dunames.

Dunames Lopez

Megalomaniac CEO of Star Tours
"Hmmm... would you like to take a picture of the Sith moument? I understand if actually touching those ruins is off-limits. But you make it sound as if that old remnant is itself something to help a dark-sider feast on the power of the dark side" Dunames asked, pointing at the marvel of the Sith architecture. "I suppose you can use the dark side to keep yourself warm long enough to return to safety, due south from here"

That is the kind of thing that should be photographed in the next edition of Taking Off on a Star Tour, to be printed somewhere in First Order space, she thought. In her experience, architectural museums in First Order space usually had exhibits for buildings whose plans are lost, behind glasteel windows, and she couldn't keep but imagine how much would architectural museums in First Order space would pay for photographs of a Sith building in a near-perfect state of preservation. Yet she was a little uneasy: she began to freeze and, worried for her safety, as well as that of the web-handed Sith Lord that she knew, she is about to make a suggestion as well as a comment on the tour she just opened for Star Tours on Ziost, the Forbidden Dark Tour. Patrons that flew Star Tours to use the FDT had two options: either visit the monuments, museums and whatnot in New Adasta, or go out on the field to fetch artifacts out on the field for themselves.

"I think we have an idea of what the patrons of the Forbidden Dark Tour would typically experience if they choose to use the option of looking afield for dark-sided artifacts. So perhaps you would like to return to ship: Ziost residents haven't finished boarding by the time we return there"

[member="Darth Veles"]

He did not answer immediately, too distracted by his find to answer Dunames’ inquiry. Continuing to stroke the ice casing, Veles let out a pronounced sigh carrying a nostalgic longing locked behind the assassin’s stone cold expression. All discomfort and threats of hypothermia ceased to be a valid concern when the Sith lord’s passion burned so brightly, ignited by excitement over this discovery. It wasn’t every day he got to explore his order’s origins up close.

“Oh, it’s alright, Dunames,” he cast her a disarming smile, yet something sinister flashing in his eyes and voice alike, “I have already documented it. What lies buried here is a priceless piece of history – and yet many would happily see it destroyed only because of its creators. You see, the structure is no more infused with the dark side than the rest of Ziost. It’s the cultural significance to Sith which makes it so fascinating.”

Goggling over it with his cybernetic eye for a bit longer, spying on delicate details, he let his sight bask in the ancient times long gone, unable to get enough. Fortunately, the winter’s grasp eventually reached him as well, breaking the train of thought running through the Mon Cal’s large head. Thousands of frozen knives once again went right through him as Ziost’ winds licked his flesh. No shiver responded to it this time. Veles stood straight, turned to his purple-haired companion and offered a subtle nod, acknowledging her idea despite his monstrous tenacity. Korriban’s heat was never enough to stop him. Ziost’s cold fared only a bit better – due to Veles’ lack of experience with such climates.

“Heh! Of course. Let us be on our way back if you so desire.” The Sith let out a hearty laugh.

After almost a painful farewell, he parted from his briefly visited window to history and ventured back the way he came, trudging through the now non-existent tracks that had long since been filled by snow.

“Did this journey satisfy your curiosity, most esteemed Star Tours CEO?” teased the Mon Cal, slowing down to walk beside the megalomaniac.

"Oh, yes, most satisfactory. I know exactly who would like to see it destroyed: Mandalorians, especially the Jedi among them. They do not understand that it is an affront to galactic heritage"

After all the Cademimu-based pilots and spaceborne staff told her about the Mandalorians, she holds them in low regard. By now all she ever regarded the Mandos as were as brutes that lived and breathed combat. They were nice to have for security, but otherwise not people you would like to have around for any other reason. As they prodded among the snowy reaches of the frozen dark side nexus called Ziost, going due south, that is, from whence they came, Dunames began to feel the effects of hypothermia on her body. She knows that, once returned to New Adasta, she would need to drink and drink mineral water. Probably some vitamin tablets for good measure. And, of course, she now understood the nature of the complaints directed at the Hoth ski resort. But she never quite understood, even with the Star Tours Guide to Force Specialties, the subtleties of the Force. Nor was she able to make use of it, other than for perhaps flight security.

[member="Darth Veles"]

“Have you considered renovating such old ruins? I am certain that’d bring a lot of money to Star Tours in return,” casually brought up Veles after sitting above a steaming cup of tea, now in safety and warmth. Sheltered from the raging blizzard happening outside, the Mon Cal had cast the cold away from his body, now relaxed and ready to brave Ziost again if necessary. Indeed; Veles looked as if he had yet to set foot out in the cold.

Their trek back was uneventful, though he had noticed his companion left much deeper prints in the snow now that he had walked beside her. For such a slender woman, Dunames was heavy. Very heavy, in fact. So heavy the infamous HRDs immediately came to mind and Veles had considered the eerie possibility of his companion as one of them.

Before even thinking about raising that question, his cybernetic eye seized the task and thoroughly scanned Dunames’ body and immediately ruled out her as a member of the human race. Surprisingly enough, Veles was swift to dismiss a HRD model as well. He had never seen something like the purple-haired megalomaniac before. And to think he had allowed her to stay behind him! After this mildly disconcerting discovery and several needy sips of hot water, Veles’ gaze grew focused again as his mouth opened and continued to reveal the Mon Cal’s idea.

“Of course, such action would require private security forces to protect the tourist traps,” his polite smile now turned into a roguish grin, “But imagine the old dark Jedi temple on Yalara, for example! No longer a crumbling ruin! Thanks to Star Tours, all would enjoy its historical value, free to roam its chambers without fearing death!”

Truth to be told, Veles cared little about tourists. All he wanted was to see the old places strong in the dark side restored to their former glory. Witnessing his culture crumble has always been such a hopeless experience.

“What do you think, Lopez?”

Megalomaniac CEO of Star Tours
She heard about some human-replica droids being about as heavy as she is. But Polydroxols were rare sights in the galaxy. These were pretty deep tracks in the snow of Ziost, before she returned to ship. Yet she knew that her ability to shapeshift was, well, painful to use. Upon returning to ship, she let out a few sighs of relief, to be among the proper amount of heat she needed to recover from such a painful ordeal that was comparable in pain levels to the amount of pain she would be inflicted as a result of shapeshifting. Ah, it feels good to be back inside the civilization again, after the time spent out on the frozen wastelands of the dark-sided nexus of a planet. As she thought about her nutritional requirements after such an excruciating trip in the snow fields of Ziost, the purple-haired megalomaniac had tea infused in a cup of hot mineral water, with vitamin caplets, only to go to sleep afterward, once the vitamin caplets kicked into her body.

"Or rather, using the Forbidden Dark Tour for sponsoring digs in Ziost's ruins, and same would go with the Dark Jedi Temple on Yalara. We want to preserve the integrity of the artifacts: defiled artifacts would do no one no good. Now, if you may excuse me, I'm tired, and the relief pilot will soon arrive for us to take flight back to the rendezvous point for the First Order's mission to Endor's moon" she said, yawning.

[member="Darth Veles"]

“Excavations, yes,” nodded the amphibious Sith lord, whiskers wriggling, “But simply unearthing artifacts will earn you the wrath of Jedi and Sith alike. Renovate these ruined temples and turn them into very profitable tourist destinations that retell the ancient Sith history.”

Darth Veles paused and finished his tea before throwing another charming smile Dunames’ way. He did not doubt she would be able to exploit the incredible potential – knowing her daring projects that often caused furious debates and raised many questions concerning the megalomaniac’s sanity, [member="Dunames Lopez"] was exactly the person to take the risk and turn it into profit. She only needed to grasp the opportunity before someone else did. And do it in a way that enraged as few people as possible - even though rebuilding old structures associated with Sith and dark Jedi already had controversy written all over. Negative publicity equalled free advertisement though, meaning no shortage of curious tourists eager to explore places of evil and darkness.

“Of course, you will have to remove all items of power, as these could endanger your customers. The recovered relics will be discreetly sent to the First Order.”

Naturally. The First Order would be much more accommodating in allowing Star Tours anywhere near the ruins should Dunames give something in return. A few relics sent to the Order of Ren would do wonders, turn this into a mutually beneficial operation and giving Dunames the permission she needed to proceed. How she handled her dealing with the First Order's officials was entirely up to her though, albeit from what Veles gathered, she needed to substantially sweeten the deal.

With that, Veles got up, offering the purple-haired woman a courtly bow that signed an end to their brief meeting, hopefully to result in numerous ideas gearing through the Star Tours CEO's head.

“I’ll leave you in peace now. Rest – and consider my words.”

Dunames Lopez

Megalomaniac CEO of Star Tours
"Restoration of ancient monuments was something Star Tours could only fund: carrying out the renovations or restoration, is something that has to be subcontracted. It is likely that the First Order has its conditions, at least as far as Yalara is concerned: the Sith Order would probably love to contribute their expertise provided that they actually have a willing scholar or two. Unfortunately, I'm not confident in the Sith Order being better at preserving historical heritage" she said, quivering due to her being nervous about entering an unknown area of business.

Dunames' nervosity might be forgiven because the purple-haired megalomaniac has little experience in restoration of historical landmarks and, likewise, little about Force-scholarship, hence why she had interviews and why she had even asked Cathul to write the witch part of the Star Tours Guide to Force Specialties all to herself. And Jessica to write a good chunk of the preface. All that she knew about Jedi and Sith before the Guide was released was that But Ziost made her realize that there are new venues for history-themed tours even though said tours are pretty niche in terms of its target audience, now knowing that Force-scholarship is not for everybody. She was lucky to know Avreet, in a sense, in as much that he wasn't a purely-evil brute, and with an actual interest in Force-scholarship.

"Delivering the most historically significant or powerful pieces to Virgillia might be part of the deal, I'll accept as much" Dunames said, before going to sleep.
