Give me Feedback on the New Invasions!

Hi. I'm Jay and I'm not a Staffer. Nope. I'm just a curious little kitty. So, and thusly...

Give me Feedback on the New Invasions!

I say 'new' because we had a rule change recently. Now Invasions are judged for good teamwork and polite play. Rather than just who has the biggest stick and can bludgeon with it the hardest. And, seeing as a few of you guys have had the opportunity now to partake? You should totally fill me in on the bill, yo. Lulz. :p

Now. The digs and thanks in advance. Cheers!,

Q: Have you participated in an Invasion recently?
Yes, in two invasions recently.

Q: Was it your 1st time participating in an Invasion?
No.

Q: How did it go? And, did it feel different, less stressful, or less anxious somehow?
To be honest, it felt the same. I have never really viewed invasions as a 'I have to win this duel, otherwise my faction will lose' sort of thing. I've seen it as a way to write an awesome story and that hasn't changed. However, the new rules seem to have made the OOC side of things a little bit easier and less stressful, at least for both of the GA/OS invasions I've been to recently.

Q: What do you think you did differently, as a writer, than in past invasions?
Not much, really. I mean, I've now been more mission-oriented other than duel-oriented at invasions, but that is partly because both Dulvoyinn and Coruscant have had plots that haven't been that traditional (Dulvoyinn was in space and didn't rely on duels, Coruscant doesn't have any objectives or set locaitons).

Q: Would you recommend these 'new' Invasions to another writer? Why?
Uh, what? I wouldn't say invasions are 'new' now, they just have different rules. So just like before the rule change, I would say invasions are one of the best things in Chaos.

Q: What are your thoughts on the new Invasion rules now that you have actually been there? Progress maybe?
I think the community has, in general, started to understand that invasions are mostly just stories, not strategy games. And I'm glad the staff team made these new rules.

3 under the new rules.

Q: Was it your 1st time participating in an Invasion? -
No done quite a few.

Q: How did it go? And, did it feel different, less stressful, or less anxious somehow? -
Enjoyably for the most part. With some notes later.

Q: What do you think you did differently, as a writer, than in past invasions? -
Nothing. Always tried to engage others with give and take. I was asked to DM which was different.

Q: Would you recommend these 'new' Invasions to another writer? Why? -
Yes and No. I'd recommend it if you can find someone else on the other side to write with, or don't mind solo threading.
You still need a fast posting speed which puts certain writers off.

Three Suggestions

1) More time should be spent pre invasion matching writing partners up. In an ideal world, with active posters keeping an alt on standby to help give people roleplay.
2) Less defined terms makes for tricky NPC use, more time needs to be spent pre invasion to determine fleet or npc strength used. - This is not just my view.
3) Allow some others, who agree with their specific partners beforehand, a slower pace. - Preferably away from key targets to the rest of the roleplay, on their own objective, so not to lock others up.

Q: What are your thoughts on the new Invasion rules now that you have actually been there? Progress maybe?

1, More freedom. Less unified writing goals. - Trade off. (See Suggestion Above)
2, Factory is less important and will become increasingly less so. Perhaps it could use an unrelated boost, thinking creatively outside the box, I don't have the answers for that. This doesn't need to be combat for example! Podracing league, the cryptnet etc. [member="Jen"], or other ways of highlighting its many strengths.
3, Generally a better OOC atmosphere. Favoring player numbers and quality of writing, as opposed to tech and strategic or competitive writing. imho warlike factions will ultimately have a harder time of it long term.

Q: Have you participated in an Invasion recently? -

A: Dulvoyinn, Ruusan, Coruscant.

Q: Was it your 1st time participating in an Invasion? -

A: No.

Q: How did it go? And, did it feel different, less stressful, or less anxious somehow?

A: In invasions, there will always be a certain element of stress, frustration, and competitiveness. However, compared to the prior format, there is a decrease of tension in the OOC. From the perspective of a former Major Faction Admin, it would also appear the pre-invasion terms are easier as they have already been set by staff. This, I can only imagine, makes the invasion easier to handle for the FA team and thus decreasing levels of stress.

Q: What do you think you did differently, as a writer, than in past invasions?

A: Personally, I've always pursued PvP in invasions as a means to drive my character's story. As such, I have not done much differently. However, I do feel like it's easier to take damage, less of a risk.

Q: Would you recommend these 'new' Invasions to another writer? Why?

A: I would and I have. The atmosphere is less competitive, at the same time it retains an element of risk.

Q: What are your thoughts on the new Invasion rules now that you have actually been there? Progress maybe?

A: I think it's a positive change and I'm excited to see how it will develop the way we roleplay invasions.

Q: Have you participated in an Invasion recently? -

I am currently involved in the Galactic Alliance's invasion of Coruscant.

Q: Was it your 1st time participating in an Invasion? -

No. I've fought in several invasions on Chaos.

Q: How did it go? And, did it feel different, less stressful, or less anxious somehow? -

I feel like there is less of an empathizes to make a reply to my opponent. To me this invasion has less of an edge than the others and the consequences seem lessened as a result.

Q: What do you think you did differently, as a writer, than in past invasions? -

I am not writing tactically. Whenever I wrote before, I would approach the fight with a particular strategy. A plan which would place my opponent in a position where they would ultimately lose the fight, thus gaining a victory to my side. I care more about the story now, rather than the empathizes of winning.

Q: Would you recommend these 'new' Invasions to another writer? Why? -

No. I do not like the new invasion style. I preferred the old method.

Q: What are your thoughts on the new Invasion rules now that you have actually been there? Progress maybe? -

I feel like the invasions have traded one fault for another. In the old setting, the amount of disagreements between individual writers and their fights- which nearly all happened during the middle of the invasion- was large and tedious at best. Down right demoralizing at worse. As a result, the staff have made up new rules that taken away the competitive edge that led to these OOC insults and traded them in for a new ruleset where anyone who argues or makes a fuss- as they would have done with old invasions- look like a bit of an idiot because there is no real reason for their to be any arguments. It doesn't matter if you win or lose your fight, so long as it reads well and you were friendly with your opponent, then you're in a good position to earn a victory for your side.

I'd rather have the arguments than eliminate the PvP edge that we had before. I think most of the arguments that happened between writers were justified. A lot of Godmodding, metagaming and general bad roleplay- where someone wrote the actions of their character in an unrealistic or down right idiotic manner- were purged in favour of better roleplay. I found the old invasions eliminated the weak from the strong and the writers that continued to play in them were people who could write in a manner that didn't bring up OOC disputes whilst maintaining an IC edge to the writing, which delivered something enjoyable to participate and read about.

I feel like the new ruleset brings in the people who were otherwise pushed away from invasions because they essentially didn't enjoy the PvP element to them. The new ruleset eliminates the last remnants of spontaneous roleplay, which the old rules blocked in the first place (if you weren't apart of either faction and weren't accepted as an ally of that faction, then chances were you couldn't roleplay in said invasion in the first place. There have been several times I felt like getting involved in an invasion as @Vilox Pazela or [member="Darth Ayra"] but was otherwise cock blocked by the ruleset because it dictated that faction staff could stop me from having an affect on the invasion. I could go more into this.)

Basically, the reason why I dislike these new rules for invasions eliminates the win-loss scenario from the roleplay. I think they are a byproduct and backlash of poor decision making done by staff at faction level (note site level i.e admins etc) and the SJW type writers who were excluded from participating from invasions due to their unrealistic roleplay and downright bad writing. As I said at the beginning, it seems like the PvP edge to invasions have been traded in return for no arguments or perceived bullying, which I heavily dislike. I'm sorry, but there are certain people that need a swift slap of reality, otherwise their bullshit escalates. It's like the new ruleset favours the minority, rather than the majority.
