I'm Sorry Dave

- Primary Source: BRT Supercomputer (Reference) | Standard Template Construct (Inspiration) | B.S.
- Manufacturer: The Globex Corporation
- Affiliation: Closed-Market (Custom Models) | Open-Market (Standard Models)
- Model: General Manufacturing Constructs
- Modularity: Significant variance in what schematics are included (Standard Models only have access to schematics in the public domain, though more can be added after delivery), the more schematics the more reference points for alterations, see Adaptive Manufacturing.
- Production: Mass-Produced (Duplicable)
- Material: Code, incl. digital schematics.
- General Manufacturing Constructs come as Custom models (designed for a specific client and natively hosts its schematics, may or may not have been subject to further alterations) or Standard models (simpler models often duplicated in large numbers, the go-to choice for smaller clients); regardless of type, a GMC can be duplicated however many times a client desires... assuming Globex gets its fee.
- Adaptive Manufacturing: GMCs are literally created from amalgamated manufacturing schematics and data amassed over time, affording them a near-unbeatable understanding of the products they manufacture, which can range from simple power packs to entire capital ships. They are able to adjust schematics on the fly based on available resources, newly developed technologies, and numerous other factors.
- Well-Oiled Machine: GMCs are nothing if not efficient, far more so than most feeble human minds. An autofactory under GMC-supervision will react near-instantly to even the slightest delays and the AI constantly monitors its domain for potential risk factors.
- Does Not Compute: While GMCs can apply their significant processing power to areas beyond the industrial, they are woefully unoptimised for this; sophisticated LPP prevent them from directly harming sentients, necessitating the delegation of such tasks.
- Localised: While GMCs can be duplicated, this requires specialised tools. They cannot be transmitted wirelessly.
Developed by Globex's AI technicians as part of its neverending quest for ever more efficient processes and supply chains, GMCs are a wonder of software engineering that are equal parts schematics database and industrial manager - when properly supplied with materials and processing power, the speed and precision of their output is near unmatched, greatly reducing the need for sentient labourers.
Having studied the botched rollout of the BRT supercomputers over a millennia ago, Globex relocated obsolete workers to other divisions where possible and provided extremely generous severance packages were not.
In addition to planetside factories and shipyards, General Manufacturing Constructs are often found in factory ships accompanying Superminers and the like, their adaptability allowing them to churn out goods appropriate for whatever minerals the miner locates.
