After his first lightsaber was crushed under the rubble of the Jedi Temple during the Battle for Coruscant, Gatz set out to construct a new lightsaber—one with a few new modifications that his original lightsaber didn't possess. As his kyber crystal was also destroyed with his first weapon, Gatz obtained two more kyber crystals in order to modify this new lightsaber with a bifurcating cyclical-ignition pulse so that it could operate under water.
