DESCRIPTION |
Chiss Carriers were known to carry Clawcraft across the vast distances of the Chiss Ascendancy, whilst later models of Clawcraft relied on carriers less due to the addition of more advanced Hyperdrives, the need for Carriers within a fleet is still present. The GADF Miurani-class is an improvement over the older Chiss Carrier, providing a fleet with the capability of deploying multiple Starfighter Squadrons whilst also supporting surface-based operations planetside. Each of these Carriers marks a turning point in the Chiss Doctrine and provides a Capital Ship that can easily support a Fleet formation with the Starfighter support it needs. The GADF Miurani-class was designed with a focus on an Increased Hangar Capacity as well as ensuring that the vessel was well-defended and that its Squadrons had a place to return to at the end of an engagement. This was further accomplished by the inclusion of additional heavy armor plating along the hull of the vessel as well as the implementation of redundant deflector shield generators to bolster and increase its defensive rating. However, the primary drawback to this is a marked decrease in its armaments, as many of these systems were removed to increase its hangar size. Likewise, the addition of heavier armor and additional defensive systems has resulted in a lower speed and a drop in overall maneuverability, making the Miurani-class sluggish and difficult to handle. Where the vessel stands out is in its ability to deploy a full Division Planetside along with up to four Modular Garrisons in order to create a foothold in a contested system or secure recently gained territory. This is further supported by its ability to deploy up to three squadrons of Support Craft to assist with these endeavors and ensure that planetside forces have the resources they need to succeed in their own missions. Had the Brotherhood of the Maw not destroyed Csilla, it is unlikely that a vessel such as the Miurani-class would have been developed as it stands in direct opposition to the Chiss Defense-Only Doctrine. |
