STRENGTHS
  • Heavy Armaments - Each capital ship is equipped with a vast array of heavy armaments and launchers resulting in an increased rating of its available weapon systems that it can bring to bear against an enemy.
  • Increased Defenses - The GADF Groundlion-class was designed to be a front-line warship and is often deployed to strike at the forefront of an enemy formation. To ensure that the vessel was capable of withstanding such an engagement, additional defensive systems and hull plating were added to increase the survivability of the vessel.
  • Breacher Ordnance - Originally developed by the Chiss Ascendancy, these weapons are known to produce an acidic glob upon impact with a target. This acidic glob is known to have the potential to eat through the metal hulls of a vessel and leave it vulnerable to follow-up weapon fire.
  • Increased Hangar Capacity - Each GADF Groundlion-class is expected to be capable of acting of its own volition as needed. To further ensure success in singular missions and expeditions, the vessel boasts an impressive hangar bay and is capable of carrying up to four Starfighter Wings - with three squadrons per wing - and up to two additional squadrons consisting of Support Craft.
WEAKNESSES
  • Command Bridge - The overall design of the GADF Groundlion-class is similar to older Imperial-era Star Destroyers which can be seen in its Command Bridge. The precarious location of this section results in a noted vulnerability to damage, potentially crippling the operational capability of the Capital Ship.
  • Sluggish - As a means to ensure that the vessel was capable of withstanding withering enemy fire and successive salvos of ordnance, additional armor plating was added to the hull alongside additional defense systems. This increase in its defensive capability resulted in a slower speed due to the added weight of these additional systems.
  • Ungainly - The GADF Groundlion-class was not designed to be a nimble Capital Ship and is notable for its lack of overall maneuverability. As such, it often takes time and a great distance just to turn the vessel onto a new course or face a specific direction.
  • Ventral Coverage - The majority of the heavy armaments and weapon systems installed on the Capital Ship are located along the dorsal section of the vessel. This has resulted in limited weapon coverage along the underside, rendering this region much more susceptible to enemy attack.
DESCRIPTION
The Chiss Ascendancy was known to operate three classes of Man-of-War in their Defense Fleet with the Groundlion serving as a middle ground between the smallest and largest of these warships. With the Chiss slowly recovering from the destruction of their homeworld of Csilla and the Galactic Alliance bolstering their forces for the coming conflict with the Mandalorians, these old designs of Chiss Warships have once again seen the light of the Galaxy. The GADF Groundlion-class is a new line of Star Destroyer and a successor of the older Man-of-War sharing the same name, designed to provide heavy firepower and capable of deploying four Starfighter Wings - organized into three squadrons per wing - it is a worthy successor of the older Chiss design.

As the primary focus, the Groundlion-class is equipped with an increased array of armaments as well as being equipped with additional heavy armor hull plating and defense systems to ensure that the vessel is capable of withstanding heavy fire during an engagement. However, the direct result of these additional weapon and defense systems, as well as the reinforced hull plating can be seen in the vessel's slower rate of speed and lack of maneuverability. Keeping a similar design aesthetic as older era Imperial ships, the Command Bridge of the vessel is vulnerable to damage due to its precarious location, potentially crippling the operational capability of the ship. A further drawback can be noted in the placement of its various weapon systems, which are focused along the dorsal section of the vessel, rendering the ventral section with limited weapon coverage and causing it to be more susceptible to an attack.

Representing a step forward in a long line of Chiss Warships, the GADF Groundlion-class provides an additional heavy hitter to the already capable forces of the Galactic Alliance. Its ability to deploy multiple Starfighter Squadrons coupled with its heavier weapons and defenses provide a Fleet Commander with a readily available battering ram intended to withstand an enemy's onslaught and carry into the fray of an engagement. Even with its drawbacks, the vessel is more than worth its weight in salt and will prove a capable addition to the Galactic Alliance Defense Force.
