- Excellent protection against environmental threats.
- Serpentine-compatible.
- Lightweight
- Integrated biomonitor.
- Integrated Tectus Launcher.
- Integrated Helsteel wrist blades.
- Universal Soldier: The Kraken suit is highly resistant to most common environmental hazards, such as vacuum, extremes of heat and cold, corrosion, and radiation.
- Swashbuckler: The suit is exceptionally lightweight, comfortable, and easy to move in, and sports small powered servos, increasing the user's speed and strength mildly.
- Integrated Systems: The suit sports an inbuilt shoulder launcher, concealed claw-blades in the forearms, and a bio-monitoring system, all controllable via the user's Serpentine implant.
- Keep It Light: The Kraken provides only light protection against most common weapon types, relying heavily on the user's skill to avoid injury in combat.
- Weakpoint: The armor's left wrist houses the user's Serpentine implant integration, and damage to this area can compromise the suit's capabilities.
As Helix's increased hiring of organic mercs, criminals, and scum of all types increased, the growing piratical hordes began to be armed and armored with increasingly sophisticated arsenals.
The standard armor set for Helix's privateers, the so-called "Kraken" armor set has a myriad of other nicknames, some more respectful than others. Despite this, it is one of the most expensive and complex suits currently in pirate hands.
Constructed of finely-woven Helsteel thread under layered, molecule-forged plates of the same material, the Kraken suit combines balanced damage resistances with unparalleled freedom of movement.
Freedom of movement is indeed the suit's primary consideration, as pirates traditionally shun drawn-out fights. It is profoundly light, in part owing to power-assisted servos that increase the wearer's strength and speed.
The left shoulder mounts a Tectus ordnance launcher, while the right forearm features a small personal datapad. This displays squad status, troop movements, and other mission-relevant information, and links into a series of biomonitors dotted about the suit's interior, which constantly survey the user's physical condition. When it senses injury, the suit will automatically begin drip-feeding Heroism into the wearer's bloodstream, quickly suppressing pain responses and keeping the user moving at any cost.
At will, the wearer can alter or remove this auto-treatment protocol, though few do. Nobody enjoys getting shot, least of all pirates.
The right forearm (or occasionally, the left) mounts a pair of hidden, retractable Helsteel blade-claws, honed to a metal-peelingly sharp edge and measuring some 30cm long. Owing to their anomalous metal nature, these seemingly-simple weapons are in fact quite lethal, occasionally leaving microscopic splinters of toxic materials in the target's bloodstream. Likewise, they never need to be sharpened, as the self-repairing metals in their construction keep these blades murderously fit for work at all times. While the rest of the sight favors agility over durability, the blades are an exception, and are highly resistant to blaster impacts, corrosion, or lightsabers.
The helmet is shaped from Helglass, designed to provide maximum field of vision, and fitted with a small internal holoprojector. As a matter of pride, most privateers set this to display the visage of a grinning, fleshless skull, the universal symbol of freebooters since time immemorial. As with most Helglass objects, the user can easily polarize, depolarize, or otherwise alter the visor's appearance at will.
The entire package is pressurized against external hazards, and contains an internal 1-hour air supply. This unusually-generous oxygen allowance comes from the frequent EVA operations that the suit's wearers often engage in, as well as a need to keep the wearer operational regardless of the breathability of the current AO's atmosphere.
Every aspect of the suit can be monitored, altered or customized via the user's Serpentine integration. This allows the user to utilize the weapon's systems like an extension of their own body, including firing the launcher, injecting stims, or extending/retracting the gauntlet blades. Of course, this comes with some risk. Should the Serpentine system be damaged (or self-destruct) many of the suit's systems will operate at decreased functionality until repairs can be made.
These suits are highly customizable, and no two are exactly identical in appearance. Most are smattered in graffiti, taunting phrases, or names of past and present lovers. All, however, share that eyeless, skeletal stare, promising foul deeds on the horizon.
