OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a Fauna for Gratos, Homeworld of the Graug
  • Image Credit: Epic Games [Gears of War Franchise]
  • Canon: N/A
  • Permissions: Graug PCs or other characters with direct permission
  • Links: Gratos
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Folloik Draagha
  • Designation: Semi-Sentient
  • Origins: Gratos
  • Average Lifespan: 25 years
  • Estimated Population: Planetary
  • Description: Colossal, spider-like animals from the Graug homeworld - Folloik Draagha are not actually insects but are much closer in biology to lizards, despite their spider-like qualities. Each Folloik Draagha, known in basic as Grave Watchers, has upwards of two dozen eyes of varying sizes to both assist the creature navigate the dark caverns it inhabits as well as allow it to see around its massive body. Ironically, despite its many eyes, Watchers have very poor eyesight with their larger eyes meant to collect light while their smaller eyes focus on movement - all to give them the most rudimentary of visual range. Despite this, Watchers are very sensitive to light and quick movements but are unable to see slow movement and are very sensitive to direct sunlight. Instead of relying heavily on their eyesight, Grave Watchers rely more heavily on ear splitting screeches to echo-locate and feeling the tremors of movement in the ground through their massive front claws. Thus comes the species' namesake in which they used to hunt the graveyards of early Graug society due to their sensing of the intense digging taking place above. Many Graug were devoured by Grave Watchers exploding from the surface in the middle of a mass grave.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: Type 1
  • Average Height of Adults: 50 feet (males), 70 feet (females)
  • Average Length of Adults: 32 feet (males), 50 feet (females)
  • Skin color: Grey/Green, Dark Brown, Pale White
  • Hair color: None
  • Distinctions: The Folloik Draagha are a large, viscous species that survives primarily on a carnivorous diet. Much like the other various species on Gratos this species possesses a thick, partially blaster resistant hide that is capable of protecting the creature from kinetic energy as well as most small arms fire. However, unlike many other large species on Gratos, the Folloik Draagha are a short lived race that spend most (if not all) of their lives underground.
  • Races: N/A
  • Force Sensitivity: All

Strengths:
  • The species is cable of resisting intense small arms fire from both slugthrowing weapons and blaster weapons. Missiles and other explosive ordinance can harm the creatures but they are resistant to most small arms variants of such weapons.

  • The species is capable of easily digging through solid stone and most earth with the females able to create "Hallows" (tunnel networks) by utilizing a web-like substance as supports while they dig their way through the soil and stone.

  • The species is capable of ripping asunder light vehicles, walkers and infantry.

  • The species is tamable by powerful darkside force users and can be mounted with both armor and weaponry.

Weaknesses:
  • The species is extremely sensitive to direct sunlight and requires a helmet or other head apparatus to allow them to travel in direct sunlight unharmed. If this apparatus is removed the sunlight will likely destroy and blind the creatures larger eyes instantly - causing debilitating pain and drive its instinct to seek shadows.

  • The species is large and while its many legs allow it to move quickly for their size, their large size makes their backsides particularly vulnerable to attacks as the creature cannot see well nor do their claws allow them to effectively sense earth tremors in this direction.

  • The species is unable to be fully armored and this makes them vulnerable to vehicle grade weaponry - which is powerful enough to punch through their natural hide.

  • While force sensitive this species is unable to be trained in the force beyond the instinctual use of Force Sense that they are born with.

CULTURE
  • Diet: Carnivore (any living creature). Small amounts of vegetation will not harm the beasts but they are unable to digest it and thus large amounts can be deadly.
  • Communication: Instinctual/primitive telepathy, growls/screeches
  • Technology level: Pre-stone age
  • Religion/Beliefs: N/A
  • General behavior: All Watcher lives begin in the exact same way - a female will dig a labyrinthine tunnel network built by their massive front claws and stabilized by a weblike substance that females produce. These difficult to navigate defensive networks will sometimes stretch for miles and many routes will lead to dead ends, but one out of these several dozen massive tunnels will lead to a chamber in which the female will lay a clutch of eggs containing as many as forty eggs at a time. After laying her eggs the female will depart the chamber for several months. During this time a male typically finds this chamber through a combination of primitive force sense and pheromones at which time he will inject each individual egg with his seed - he will then guard the chamber until the mother returns. Upon the return of the mother the male will leave permanently or - if the male is of advanced age - will submit itself to be eaten, digested and regurgitated by the female to provide nourishment to the children upon birth.
The creatures hunt other subterranean creatures but rely most heavily on surface dwellers. Often a Watcher will hang from the ceiling of a cavern and use its massive front claws to sense motion above. When a large enough meal passes nearby the beast will emerge from its subterranean layer and attack.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION

The Watchers find most of their history on Gratos itself where they naturally evolved. After the arrival of Sith Knights during the darkness and their subsequent creation of The Graug the Watchers course of history would be forever changed. During the golden age of Graug Beast Taming, which took place in the middle of the galactic darkness, entire clans would venture into the caverns below Gratos to attempt to capture their eggs or even live adults. Suffice to say that several clans went extinct in this manner. But perseverance prevailed and the first groups of Graug Beast Riders tamed watchers they had hatched, learned the best techniques and then traveled into darkness to tame the species as a whole. After almost a century The Graug were successful in comfortable domesticating a large Watcher population and sparked The Subterranean expansion that birthed the Gratos Hallow Network.

The taming of The Watchers coincided directly with The Graug's expansion into their own underground as the domestication of the species allowed The Graug a way to quickly and easily build massive tunnels under their own planet. Over the course of the darkness the Watchers would be responsible for thousands of miles of tunnels beneath Gratos that The Graug had used them to build. The Graug would eventually travel off-world at the behest of their leader, Darth Vulcanus, who would use the spiders across the worlds of the Eighth Sith Empire - building massive tunnel networks for his people underneath the surface of several worlds. The Watchers would go on to serve in every major Graug Horde - including those lead by The Zambrano line.

There are a couple of things here to address.

No. 1. IMAGE CLAIM

Since you are pulling from the Gears of War franchise could you add a link to the actual site for Gears of War. Linking to Epic Games just takes me to their Black Friday sales and current news, etc.

No. 2 Gratos Link

Is broken... and I cannot get it to work for me.

These couple of edits should get this is a great spot for approval
