Ashkur carefully inspected his new fighter in the Landing bay as what he could only assume was a shuttle full of nuggets touched down just outside the hangar's threshold. Walking around to the edge of the cockpit, the pilot couldn't help but smile as he placed his hand over the interceptor and three clawcraft painted to the port of his viewscreen, and beamed with pride when his hand passed over the Vanguard painted at the end of the line. That Chiss uprising was what had made him an ace, and that Vanguard kill was what had seen him selected for the Hawker Program.

Which is what had brought him from his posting on the fringes, mopping up resistance, to the capital world of the Empire. He was finally going to get his quals on the new fighter, and he looked forward to seeing how he would fare against the other members of the Hawker Program. What he wasn't looking forward to was his temporary positioning as an assistant instructor. The lead here was nothing like the firm but kind veteran at the Dantooine academy, and the one time they had met had been an inquiry over the loss of Ashkur's wingman during a training exercise. Of course, he'd been found blameless in that matter, but he always had the impression that the Colonel had wanted everyone involved canned rather than change the inadequate protocols he'd written.

Reading once more through the maintenance reports for his fighter, the lieutenant turned towards the column of cadets as they entered the building, offering a small world of welcome to each of them as the entered, wondering which model of TIE each of them was planning on qualling for.
