  • SLAM System; Temporary Speed Boost.
  • Sensor Inverter; Short-ranged Missile Redirector - Works best with Conventional Warheads.
  • Fast Hyperdrive - Near-instantaneous Spool-up coupled with Expedient Hyperspace Travel Times.
Weaknesses:
  • No Deflector Shields - Heavy Reliance on Ablative Armour Plating, and Mobility.
  • Extremely Limited Armament; Single-use Warheads and Active Interception Measures.
  • Limited EMP and Ion Resistance; Proximity and Device Potency Dependent.
  • Fixed Forward Weapon Placements; Consistent Reorientation for Target Acquisition.
  • Repulsorlift Jammers; Proximity Dependent.
  • Entirely Automated - Inoperable if Disabled; Automated Resuscitation Protocol.
  • Pseudo-Stealth Suite - Favours Misdirection and Deception, coupled with a Small Spaceframe, rather than any "true" Stealth Capabilities.
  • Large Dorsal and Ventral Attack Profile - Higher Probability of Scoring Hits.
  • SLAM System; Reroutes Power from Weapons to Engines - Temporarily Disables Armament.
  • Fast Hyperdrive; Requires Power to be Rerouted from Data Collection and Weapons Systems for Use.
DESCRIPTION
As the original Ferret - Class Reconnaissance Vessel was an automated intelligence gathering drone, the technical architects at the Republic Engineering Corporation believed that its successor should retain similar conceptual properties. To ensure this outcome, they installed a droid brain within the central chassis of the scout ship, and had mapped out its protocols to ensure that it would learn from every mission it was deployed on, but never reach the true sentience employed by artificial intelligence.

With the best way to gather intelligence on a hostile position being to ensure that one’s never detected, the Ferret II comes standard with a secondary method of propulsion - a baffled chemical engine. This allows for the drone to move at sublight speeds without leaving a detectable ion trail, and as the engine is driven on chemical propellent instead - the residue decays at a much faster rate than their ionic cousin. Further reinforcing its ability to skulk about in the shadows, the scout vessel’s exterior panelling forged from Fiberplast, which allows the Ferret II to miss being picked up on conventional scanners due to the plating's non-metallic properties.

In addition, the Drone was equipped with a host of sensor dampeners and systems - that allowed the vessel to hopefully pass by sensor systems unnoticed, either by modulating their electronic signature or decreasing their generated magnetic field. Both options worked to disguise the Drone as something else, possibly drawing attention away from its purpose as many systems would register the Scout Ship as passing debris, or an errant satellite. However, these systems were far from perfect and wouldn't work if they were activated within visual range.

If the sensorial countermeasures are beaten, or the vessel elects to operate an in an active state, rather than passive scans, the Ferret II comes equipped with two concussion missile tubes and a rack of four missiles. These were meant to deter any hostile threats or destroy any navigational hazards that might interfere with their operations. However, they also served a secondary purpose, in which - if the self-destruct protocols were activated, the missiles would detonate and utterly atomize any remnants of the scout ship, taking whatever data it had collected with it.

In addition to the systems that would deter hostile starships from attacking, or destroying astro-navigational hazards, the Ferret II comes equipped with a Class 0.5 hyperdrive, which allows for a rapid spool-up time of roughly ninety seconds. This motivator was essential to the recon craft’s design as it would allow the craft to make an expedient get-away if it was detected and a taskforce was scrambled to intercept.

So on the whole this ship seems relatively reasonable. However it's stealth systems make me somewhat uncomfortable so I would like you to bump this down to Minor Production.

[member="Alric Kuhn"] - The intent behind creating this submission was to have it be mass-produced and equipped with sub-par stealth systems; if it's alright with you - I'd like to keep it that way. As Reflec is easily produced and creates a sensor silhouette, it's far more likely that it'll be detected in comparison to the Agave II that came equipped with a Vanish 2. The same could be said with its chemical drive, as most sensors are tuned to detect Ion emissions rather than cooling chemicals.

Would generating another weakness, describing the follies of its sub-par stealth systems work at keeping it mass-produced?

This is extremely well made and thought out well. While the Hyperdrive is under the Very Fast rules at .5, you were still above one rating which pairs out for me. Also only four missiles really will hurt but it shows it is not made for offensive in reality which is something I really like.

Approved! Pending Mentor Approval.

Modification Summary:
  • Replaced Defences, Special Features, Advanced Systems, Strengths and Weaknesses.
  • Added various Components from SW: Squadrons to flesh out the Starship's countermeasures.
  • Added some clarifications to the pseudo-stealth capabilities of the Ferret II detailing a preference for misdirection, rather than cloaking, etc.
This submission is ready to be tossed back into the Starship creation subforum.
