TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS

SPECIAL FEATURES

  • Environmentally Sealed: Fambaas have environmental sealing and full internal life-support for three days of continual operation, allowing the walkers to be deployed in hazardous environments such as vacuum or toxic atmospheres and to enable limited submersion in water.
  • Phalanx Shield System: The primary purpose of the Fambaa is to carry and power a capital ship-grade Phalanx Shield System, which allows it to function as a mobile, local theatre shield, capable of protecting several nearby kilometers worth from enemy artillery, airstrikes, and bombardments. This shield does have some configurability options as detailed in the strength section of this sub and the Phalanx Shield System itself.

STRENGTHS

  • Bulwark: Fambaas are able to use their capital ship grade Phalanx Shield Generators to project an area of effect shield around nearby allies, much like the smaller mobile shield generator variant of the Kaadu, the Contegori Mobile Shield Generator, or even the mobile shield generators fitted to Fambaas during the Invasion of Naboo, though it is to a much greater degree than its predecessors, capable of forming a dome of up to several kilometers in radius (though this is weaker than a smaller, concentrated shield). Alternatively, this system can be configured to use its 14 local shield projectors to project encapsulating shields on nearby objects or groups of people. This can be used to protect incoming or outgoing starships, or alternatively, not only protect people, but capture them as well (as with the ray shields that captured Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker on the Invisible Hand).
  • All Terrain: Like KDY's famous walker line, the Fambaa can be effectively deployed on a wide variety of terrain thanks to its six-legged configuration. Like KDY's earlier walkers, the feet can receive subtle modifications to adapt their use to different terrains, such as spiked underpads for improved traction on ice or wider footpads to reduce ground pressure on soft terrains such as sand or mud. Due to its environmental sealing and heavy construction, the Fambaa can also operate underwater on the coastal shelves of most oceans and in many smaller freshwater bodies.

WEAKNESSES

  • Lumbering: The Fambaa is a lumbering beast which not only is fairly slow on the battlefield, but an unmaneuverable one as well. Many enemies can outrun it (or the formations trying to keep pace with it) or rapidly move in to attack it.

  • Large: Compounding this, the Fambaa is also fairly large, which limits its deployment in certain areas (such as narrow streets and canyons) and makes logistic planning essential to its use; it often is far too large to fit into regular dropships or vehicle hangars. Additionally, combined with its large energy signature from its massive shield, it is very easy to target on the battlefield.
DESCRIPTION
The Fambaa is an improvement of Lucerne Labs' earlier Contegori-class Mobile Shield Generator in both size and capabilities. A massive walker, the Fambaa uses a six-legged locomotion and hardy construction allow it to effectively operate on more terrains and in harsher conditions than its predecessor. The larger size allows it carry its own hypermatter reactor which can support a significantly more powerful and adaptable series of capital ship grade Phalanx Shield Generator projectors. Not only can the Fambaa use this to project bubbled layers of shields around itself to protect nearby terrain and units in a manner as a local theatre shield generator, but it can also use it to encapsulate multiple objects in shields for protective or offensive use, which enhances its utility on the battlefield. By virtue of its role to protect other assets, Fambaas are almost always operate in conjunction with other units, which often relies upon to drive off enemies.

Technical Explanations

Crew: The Fambaa has a forward crew cabin 'head' that contains the vehicle's driver and one of its gunners, who operates the Fambaas' laser cannons and warhead launchers. The others reside in a central compartment deeper within the walker's main body where they work together to maintain the vehicle's defenses. Shie operators not only have to worry about simply maintaining the shields in the right orientation, but also coordinating with other forces to ensure that shield sections are opened and closed for outgoing projectile fire and vehicle flight. The other gunner here operates the vehicle's two modular auxiliary systems turrets while the mechanic droids stand ready to scurry into other areas of the vehicle to maintain its systems.

Engine Systems: The Fambaa has a hypermatter reactor that not only provides power for the shield generator, but also provides a lesser amount of power to feed the vehicle's other systems including its hexapod locomotion. In terms of actual gait mechanics, the Fambaa builds off of earlier walkers, using the AT-TE's gait pattern and the MT-AT's joint mechanics. Thus, despite it's relatively tall height, it is fairly stable if slow platform. If a leg or two is lost, the Fambaa is usually still able to stand and ambulate, though with reduced speed and stability. Like some Imperial walkers, the footpads of the Fambaa can receive minor adaptations to make them better suited to different terrains, such as spike pads for ice and wider foot pads for softer surfaces like sand. None of these actually improve the Fambaas' speed past original performance on normal terrain, but rather allow it to maintain its already limited mobility in adverse conditions.

Defensive Systems: The Fambaa is massive and thick mechanical construct designed to withstand a large amount of punishment just with its frame and armor alone because its designers believe that its role will make it a primary target for most enemies. Even without its formidable shields, the Fambaa's Argentum-series Matrix Armor can often survive several minutes of sustained direct fire from enemy walkers, tanks, and similar threats. A side benefit of this construction is that Fambaas can often simply bulldoze through some obstacles, like duracrete walls, with little chance of noticeable damage. It also sports a pair of active defensive systems in the form of a pair of modular auxillary systems turrets. This most often is in the form of the directional particle shield and pressor beam, which provides another layer of defense against munitions and objects that manage to penetrate through the Fambaas' shields.

Hull: The Fambaa's basic configuration follows that of the MT-AT, with a forward crew cabin and an abdomen which houses the drive units, shield generator, and power systems. Internally, the Fambaa has a single, continuous working area split by blast doors between the abdomen and head. As both areas can be entirely partitioned off, this means that they both can be entirely environmentally sealed, meaning that a breach in one area will not effect the other (at least for long).

Weapons Systems: The Fambaa only carries defensive weapons in relation to its size, with a pair of forward facing and swiveling laser cannons mounted on its head and pair of warhead launchers. The laser cannons are typically used as point-defense weapons to destroy incoming warheads or drive back large scale infantry or light vehicle attacks. The warhead launchers typically carry concussion missiles, which are mostly used to drive back or destroy attacking enemy starfighters or armored vehicles. Because it has few weapons of its own, it almost relies always on an escort to fight back significant amounts of enemies.

Phalanx Shield System: Most of the massive abdomen on the Fambaa is dedicated to the walker's shield generator systems or the reactor that supplies it. The Phalanx shield system on the Fambaa is an exceptionally powerful unit, with a shield strength equivalent more typically found on larger star frigates or cruisers spread out over the course of a dome several kilometers in diameter. This strength is situational though, being dependent on the size of the shield; coverage of larger areas typically have thinner and weaker shields, while covering a smaller amount enhances the density and strength of the same shield. This also is assuming that the Fambaa is only using its own onboard reactor. It can be plugged into local infrastructure or portable generators to gain more power. In terms of capabilities, the Phalanx cannot only project a dome-like shield as a typical local theatre shield, but it also can also reconfigure itself to project in different layers, which might potentially defeat shield-breaching ordinance or vehicles. It can also project encapsulating shield globes around different objects, which can either protect them or immobilize them. This latter capability is particularly useful in riot and animal control situations, or in containing blasts from time bombs, land mines, and other like explosives.
