Factory Ruleset Update - 27/05/2014

There has been an additional rule added to the Global Rules section of the Factory Ruleset alongside an updated Starship rule, both of which can be found here.

New Rule:
  • There is a cap of three active or pending submissions permitted per section of the Factory per Writer.

This is intended to stop the Factory from being overrun/flooded with submissions. For example: A Writer may have 3 Starship and 2 Technology submissions in the Factory spread across his/her characters. This includes those pending approval.

You may have up to three in all sections of the Factory at any given time. If you exceed this then the Factory Staff reserve the right to archive the additional submissions, meaning that a Second Chance request will have to be used when you have a free Factory space.

Updated Rule:
  • A development thread will be required for command ships or significant unique/minor production ships over 1,000 meters in length. Factory Staff may request this where they see fit.
Previously this read that any ship over 1,000 meters in length required a development thread, however this rule has not stood the test of time and thus deemed unnecessary. Do not abuse the change.

If you create a command ship which exceeds 1,000 meters then a development thread will still be required, and needs to be completed before submitting the starship. Any unique vessels exceeding this length likewise meet this requirement, as will special minor production vessels above 1,000 meters.

As stated above, where the latter is concerned Factory Staff can ask you to complete a development thread if they view the vessel to be significant/special in any regard while meeting the 1,000+ meters requirement.

If you have any questions then post them below.

As a side note: this is not retroactive, any writers exceeding the 3 submission cap in any section of the Factory will not be reprimanded, but from this point onward must adhere to it.

Likewise any starships currently exceeding 1,000 meters should still have a completed development thread if created prior to this message.

Precisely, it goes off the writer not individual characters. You could have 2 ships with one character, 1 with another, 3 tech with a different one. Just don't exceed 3 in any given area with your accounts as a whole and you'll be fine.

I don't understand what you're saying? The rule states you cannot have more than 3 submissions sitting in the factory which are under review or pending approval, not approved...

Below 1,000 don't require a dev'thread unless it's a special kind of ship - again it's at the discretion of the Factory Judges/Staff. If there's restricted items involved or some unique kind of feature then it should be done before submitting.
