New Feature Factory 7.0

g9YgoZ.png

Have you ever wanted to jump in the Factory and just...

...GO?

Q: What in the world am I looking at?

A: This is what we're calling Factory 7.0. It's been rather stale up until now, as the Factory has had a lot of beefy updates over the years and is in a great spot. But the question came up, what if we could filter our results better? Everyone loves reading content. This led us down the path of what is now 7.0, which took a lot of working under the hood (with a lot more to come). Like, I want to quickly look through submissions that are Open Market. Can I do that? On the old system, kinda... it wasn't really intuitive and often didn't yield great result.

With Factory 7.0, you can quickly toggle every submission marked Open Market so you can see them, with the press of one button, and without having to reload the page.

INTRODUCING THREAD FILTERING

A new sidebar is now available in each Approved Factory forum.

INTRODUCING TEMPLATE FORMS

Over 50+ hand-crafted new fields to help replace monotonous applications and speed up content creation in the Factory, and constantly expanding.
The idea is to reduce the amount of time you spend backspacing and filling out nonsensical items like "Optimal Crew", and more time spent designing, shaping, and dreaming up your new Factory projects.

Also, each field will be easily sortable with Thread Filters! With so many threads, the Keyword Search function can chug sometimes, and it's necessary to use it for old submissions. For new 7.0 submissions, you'll zip and zap as the filter knows to only check those related field. For a Factory with more than 50,000 submissions, that's a huge.

INTRODUCING
...some patch notes if you're tired of the big corpa announcement.

Code:
for factory judges
1. prefixes to move threads out of approved tech and into approved x, y, or z forum are now available.
2. prefixes to move threads out of approved x, y, or z into approved forums are now available.

for all:
1. template reduction implemented by automating several fields out of main body into the thread user fields.
2. filter function drastically improved. Can sort by fields using AJAX (auto-page reload).
3. prefixes will auto assign categorical tags
4. require three tags per forum
5. templates largely unchanged. Upon thread creation, many explanations of entries are explained as needed.
6. new forum templates have been removed from tech forum.
7. templates are no longer required to copy and paste. What you need autopopulates in the thread field.
8. Some generic fields were given more generic options to help innovators get creative.
9. Reorganized generic listings from low to high all in the same order, for all listings, for our OCD people.
10. Consumable & Substance template, Explosive & Ordinance template, Cybernetics & Bionics template, & Material template have all been replaced by a "Tech Type" dropdown. Some were dropped for being too similar, some were added.
11. Requirements for templates that have been disestablished are also disestablished.
12. Sonic, Radiation, and Thermal resistances added. (maybe more in the future, only trying to add ones that matter).
13. Thread Filter added as a sidebar widget to all Approved Factory forums.
14. new node icons added to main forum list
15. new forums added to factory widget

misc:
1. sorted archives forum, cleaned up a bit.
2. 1,287 sticky threads in the faction archives were unstickied, significantly decreasing load times.

TLDR:

you dont need templates in ur subs anymore. no more copy and pasting. Just fill out the form, read descriptions if necessary.

then get to work on the actual writing (special features, strengths, weaknesses, description)

TLDRDR:

starships, the meatiest factory forum, are still not completed. SoonTM.

TLDRDRDR:

all of this is a work in progress and will see constant updating throughout the summer. Get to work in the feedback forum, twitter finger boyz, we permit ye to rustle our jimmies.

Yeah we’re probably gonna have to actually have you guys start versioning your ships instead of the archaic Factory Modifications forum.

The template fields cant all work in one forum like that, so it’s extremely likely ya’ll just got forced into versioning instead of editing subs.

Aka, if you mess up on your personal capital starship and want to update it, you just resubmit a new sub as v2.0, or v1.1, etc. Modifying by editing the sub will no longer be viable.

I'm assuming Mk II or Mk III, etc. will also work. That's my personal preference.

Yes, all new submissions should conform to the new format.

Old submissions will need to be resubmitted such as "Ship-Class Starfighter 2.0"

No.

Old submissions will stay approved and are not required to be resubmitted.

But if you do want to update the sub, it will need to conform to the new format. You physically cannot submit to the Factory without filling in required forms. The system will not let you.
