Suggestion Expand Fleets to Single Characters

So, I just mentioned this in the discord but I thought I'd make it a little more official and post it here.

In the factory rules it states that individuals can't have fleets, but minor factions or corporations can have ones 'within reason'. I think this is fairly limiting, and probably a clog on the website with the amount of corporations or minor factions that get created just so a single character can justify having a fleet. So the suggestion is simple, simply say that single characters can have fleets 'within reason' and clarify what that is for single characters and corps/minor factions. In order to regulate it we could even add a 'fleet' tab to NPC creation for characters and minor factions/corps while Major Factions would be exempt from having to have their fleets approved through this method.

I understand that it may seem unfeasible for a single character to have a fleet, and I definitely don't think it should be any sort of large fleet at all. At most I think a single character should have 3 larger ships, maybe one large frigate / small cruiser and two corvettes (or two large frigates / small cruisers). After all, we do have some remarkably wealthy characters on the forums who I think could probably supply both ships out of their own pocket, and I can imagine there are enough pirates like my character who are somewhat successful enough to pillage the supplies they need to keep them going.

To be technical, you are allowed to roleplay whatever you want. It's when you try to abuse something, staff gets involved. Amali, this character, is the leader of Clan Mustra, which controls a nomadic fleet of around 4-6 ships, all of which are under 500m just to conform to standards. This is due in part that first and foremost, I am part of a Minor Faction (preparing to become a Major), but also I will be submitting my Clan to the Codex and then creating a Minor Faction for it. The minor faction won't do too much except be fluff, but it will probably hold some information like equipment, details, links to Factory or Codex submissions, etc. And, when part of a Minor Faction, you can field whatever a Minor Faction can field.

Edit: Question for staff, under what circumstances would a player controlling more than one ship, with no minor faction brand, be called into question?

When the Factory Admin/Judges PM you is the simple answer. John Locke John Locke

That timing. XD

To come back to the original question regarding the size limit on fleets available to individuals.

As you say there are certain individuals on the board with the personal wealth to field a small fleet out of their own pockets, the wealthiest of landowners and corporate magnates come to mind. Yet, such individuals draw their wealth from companies or planetary holdings, which are often linked to a minor or major faction themselves.

Given how easy it is to create a faction or company on the board, I don't see much need to amend the fleet limits. Most individuals who are not a part of a faction or company tend to be spacers flying around in the falcon or a similar ship and have no need of a fleet. Certainly, there are individuals who might want to field a fleet for their own purposes, or for a story element, but these individuals will be in the vast minority.

I will be watching this thread to see how the discussion develops though, so I encourage anyone with a constructive opinion to speak up.

È pvp o per la storia? Ti piacciono i tuoi contributi al codice? La mia flotta nomade non è destinata a combattere (nella tradizione a cui era abituato)

And a convoy from A to B. My minor faction + 2 groups comparable to Doctors Without Borders + ships fished here and there - I also have the transit permit of a major faction (some diplomacy on discord)

I think part of your message is missing, I don't know what any of this means. But also, just have your ships. Play fair and cooperate if you get into a multi-writer situation. Don't overpower someone for no reason, don't call hits.

Jabba controlled a vast crime syndicate. A faction isn't necessarily a faction, it can be a military, a government, a clan, or a group

being a pirate risk situation on paper, I did some diplomacy on discord asking and getting some help here and there including the "I'm not shooting you this time" from the ETERNAL EMPIRE. Some medium ships (500m maximum) of Rimword, Crossroad and mine escorting a medical convoy of the PMRC.

I'm not sure what that's in response to, but if you have support of a faction, minor/major, then yeah you can field stuff that the faction can as long as the faction is okay with it.

Hot take, use canon ships and become fleet warlord who fights against an onslaught of player reports that I'll ignore every day until Valiens' forces us to send an RPJ ambassador to go try to mediate the situation like Obi in Phantom Menace.

Factory ships land you in Factory Admin's territory, and under the Factory's tyranny, of which not even I can escape.

I say no. I don't really clarify a flotilla as a fleet though personally, but in all honesty a single character should not have say a three destroyers and a hand full of frigates and Corvettes.

Heh. This is why stick to using canon stuff.

I have a bad feeling about this...
