- Asteroid Tough - The Excava-class is very heavily shielded and armored to allow it to survive multiple strikes from both physical and energy based attacks
- Plenty to Mine with - Equipped with more mining lasers, along with hangar space for a squadron's worth of gas skimmers, the Excava-class is versatile in its mining operations
- Roomy - A massive increase to the old Niffler's storage capacity, the Excava has large holds for ore and storage tanks for gas mining
- No Offense - The Excava, like the Niffler, is not equipped with offensive or defensive weaponry beside what damage it might do with its mining lasers
- Handles like a Drunk Bantha - The Excava, especially with a full hold, is cumbersome and slow-moving, giving enemies plenty of chances to hit it
As work on the Pakader-class progressed, the design team overseeing Aurora Industries' modernization program for its civilian ships realized that the Strider-class was not the only ship created by the then Krayt Industries in desperate need of an upgrade. The Niffler-class Mining Vessel was another horribly out-of-date design that needed replacing, and the design team began drawing up the vastly improved model.
The new ship, dubbed the Excava-class Mining Corvette, is an immense update to the old mining vessel in every way imaginable. The Excava-class, while the same length as the Niffler, is equipped with an increased number of mining lasers and tractor beams, along with hangar space for the new gas skimmers it uses to harvest valuable gaseous resources. Its defensive capabilities have also been enhanced with heavily reinforced armored hull plating and multi-layered shielding system. The cargo capacity for mined ores and minerals was also greatly increased, including storage tanks for valuable gas resources
