OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Name: Duroki Nici - High Sith for Consuming Spores
  • Designation: Sentient
  • Origins: Felucia
  • Average Lifespan: 12 Galactic Standard Years
  • Estimated Population: Planetary
  • Description: A horrifying monstrosity composed of various interbred and combined fungi, Duroki Nici are a terror for any being or creature that is exploring the jungles of Felucia near the Ancient Abyss.
PHYSICAL INFORMATION
  • Breathes: They have no need for breathing oxygen due to their Agarian base form
  • Average Height of Adults: 3 meters
  • Average Length of Adults: N/A
  • Skin color: Orangish-brown to fluorescent blue depending on their rooting spot in the Felucian jungle
  • Hair color: No hair
  • Distinctions: The most distinctive traits of a Duroki Nici can change depending upon the base form of the Agarian they were formed from. Generally, however, they share a few key similarities such as clawed hands that are composed of Felucian razor mushroom, a spore launcher located somewhere on their body (typically within one of their arms), and varying number of fungi tendrils they can use as both weapons and ensnaring victims.
  • Races: No other races currently
  • Force Sensitivity: Non-Sensitive
Strengths:
  • The fungi that composes the body of the Duroki Nici is rather resistant to blaster fire and slugthrower rounds, and is very resistant to kinetic attacks such as a vibroweapon, giving the creatures a strong defense against beings they might attack.
  • Duroki Nici, when rooted in spot as they wait for prey to enter their territory, have a form of camouflage not unlike those of some lizards and insects. They appear to blend into their surroundings, their bodies take on the same hues as the plant matter around them. Once they move to strike at prey, they will revert to their normal orangish-brown coloration.
  • Duroki Nici retain the abilities of their Agarian base forms and are able to release a potent sleeping gas that can knock out rancors.
  • The Duroki Nici also retain the exploding seedlings/spores of their Agarian forms, however these have been enhanced through the hybridization program at Hojo Base. The seedlings or spore pods can be launched from a concealed spore launcher within the body of the creature, and upon contact with a solid surface, they will explode into a cloud of extremely poisonous spores that are based on those of the Felucian spore plant and the mushbloom.
  • Perhaps the most insidious addition to the Duroki Nici is the second type of spore they can release from their body. These spores, if inhaled by an unwitting creature or being, will begin to take root within their body, particularly their nervous system. As it does so, the progenitor of the spores will form a facsimile of a hive mind with the victim, taking control of their bodily functions. Until the fungus overgrows the victim's body and they die, the being, still cognizant of what is going on, will be under the complete control of the Duroki Nici. Upon the subject's death, the fungus will begin forming into a new Duroki Nici from their victim's matter.
Weaknesses:
  • Duroki Nici are extremely vulnerable to flame, even an ember is enough to ignite their entire body and leave them as ash within a matter of seconds. Dry heats, such as those released from a flame, will destroy any spores that have been released to infect someone.
  • Duroki Nici are extremely vulnerable to corrosive compounds, such as acids, and a splash will melt them in a matter of seconds.
  • While their bodies have some resistance to blasters and slugthrowers, a lightsaber will easily pass right them.
  • While their poison spores and sleeping gas are highly effective weapons, environment conditions such as wind or rain can severely dampen their use against prey from limited to non-existent.
  • If infected with the Duroki Nici's reproductive spores, the victim does have some time before the spores have taken root in their nervous system to cure them. An antidote for this exists within Hojo Base for the researchers if they are out in the field to observe their creations and they are accidentally infected.
CULTURE
  • Diet: Omnivore, consume organic material and fluids by use of their tendrils and absorbing it into their bodies.
  • Communication: Duroki Nici communicate using a limited form of telepathy on par with a hive mind with other of their kind within the immediate vicinity or are their offspring. They are also able to understand commands and orders given in Basic, but cannot reply in kind as they lack a mouth.
  • Technology level: While they are sentient, the Duroki Nici act on a more primal level. They do not use technology of any sort, nor would they want to as their environment is a paradise to them.
  • Religion/Beliefs: Duroki Nici do not have a belief system per se, but they do have an overarching idea that all organic matter must eventually return to the world of plants.
  • General behavior: Duroki Nici appear to be sedentary creatures as they prefer to root in place near other vegetation or fungi, blending in to their surroundings while they wait for prey. However, this is somewhat misleading as they establish a sizable territory by use of their tendrils pretending to be roots or small undeveloped spore pods that mark the boundaries of their territory. Once a subject stirs a marker, the Duroki Nici will either wait for them to approach or they will begin to actively hunt them. Duroki Nici are also familial creatures, due to the nature of their reproductive spores, one progenitor Duroki Nici will have other fully grown offspring within the territory to assist it within their limited hive mind.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Created within the laboratories at Hojo Base on Felucia, the creatures that would become the Duroki Nici started off as a colony of Agarians that were discovered on the world. The fungi beings were not registered citizens of the Sith Empire, having arrived on the planet in secret, and were taken by the Order of Shadows. It was decided that the beings would not be subjected to Sith alchemy, but rather would be the base subjects for a Spaarti Creations project overseen by Biogeneticist Calir Azis. Azis was interested in the crossbreeding and the insertion of genetic material into other plants, and to have the chance to manipulate a sentient plant species was too much for the scientists.

Taking samples of several fungi from around the galaxy, and a few native species from Felucia itself, Azis and his team began warping and twisting the Agarian's cells, introducing new DNA strands and otherwise mutating and enhancing the beings through bio-engineering. The resulting specimens were given a name in the ur-Kittat language; Duroki Mici or the Consuming Spores. The successful specimens were released into the jungle to propagate and also serve as a defensive force for Hojo Base, all the while the scientists could observe their behavior and continued growth.
