Round 5

Saija Kwann Saija Kwann | Cassus Akovin Cassus Akovin
Previous Roll: 3 (4-1) Interact with another PC runner that isn't in your choice of a getaway vehicle. Maybe they can help you out!

While the chase ahead continued with Cassus Akovin Cassus Akovin ! Behind Saija (5) got a great and timely hold of Batch! Our Sushi chef however ungracefully exited the speeder, getting a good crack across his knee against the side of the oncoming one. Ouch! Sithspit! "Thanks." He breathed heavily, almost out of breath, clinging on to her hands, trying to scramble upwards. "Owe you a meal if we get out of this!" He said in a low voice. "Two if we can get my speeder back," and a whole lot more besides!

Neon scenery was rushing by them a million miles an hour, and honestly, he was getting dizzy. Climbing aboard, his thoughts turned to food, "we need a good Oshizushi, a Dragon Roll, Apricot Dijon, or Cabernet Peppercorn Dipping," a blaster shot went right between them. Batch moved back, then forward, barely stopping a beat, "Miso Soups, and a Cucumber Sesame Salad what do you say?"

That black speeder was drifting beside them, closer, still on fire, which was now sadly in the hands of his previously unwanted passenger. A corpo agent looking at them in disbelief they'd just pulled that off! Beside them, driving Batch's own speeder, the man turned their way, and aimed his blaster, Batch went for his gun at the same time, both fired and….

Das gripped her Night Sniper firmly as the Corpo bashed his speeder into hers once again. The impact rocked the chassis of her GT, but she stabilized it quickly enough to avoid swerving out of the air-lane. It was clear that CorpSec wasn’t going to be making arrests this time. She regained her composure and drew her blaster.

You can do this…” she muttered. With one hand grasping the wheel and the other clutching the blaster, she aimed for the Corpo officer’s thruster and pulled the trigger. A loud BOOM and a black plume of smoke meant she’d hit her mark. She couldn’t help but laugh triumphantly.

You or me,” she repeated.

Das floored her speeder, only catching a glimpse of the burning wreck behind her before two more CorpSec speeders were rushing around the flames onto her tail. The wailing sirens and flashing lights made her nervous, but she focused on the air-lane ahead. If they sandwiched her speeder between theirs, she’d be as good as dead. She had to lose them.

"You just can't stand the way that I walked out from the wreckage.~" It'd been a while since he last was out on a job. Life had surprising ways to get busy. Especially when the cybernetic body that kept him alive shut down and he had to scramble to get that fixed. But now he was back. New digs, new armor, new cybernetics. Same beats, though. He danced through the halls of his wing of the museum, shamelessly singing aloud. Darkwire already had control of this place, so what was there to worry about?

"Can't understand the way that I turned myself around.~" Zenric slid down the hall, bumpin' to the beats blaring in his helmet. Though only his voice could be heard. What fun was singing if no one could hear it? Not that there was anyone around. He paused his dance, peering up at quite the expensive looking painting. Behind the mask, he grinned. Perfect. "I tried to terminate this war with you.~"

His arm opened, cybernetics whirling to let the dataspike hidden within emerge. He plugged in, now muttering the song blaring in his internal speakers. "But you won't let it go, you keep coming back for more.~" He made quick work of the system that kept the painting behind glass. A whine and a rush of air, and the glass opened. Just as he reached out though, an alarm blared. Pausing his tunes the cyborg turned his gaze up. Pointedly looking towards one of the cameras.

".. Okay that wasn't me. You tell the others, right? Wasn't me." Then snatched the painting. Time to run, then!

The CorpSec speeders were gaining, and fast. It was only a matter of moments before they’d be on either side of Das’ GT. She tried to keep her cool, control her breathing, but she was beginning to panic. The blur of lights behind her drew closer and closer. She was running out of time. She gripped the wheel, trying to swerve through the traffic ahead, but it was no use. She couldn’t find a clear path to evade the gaining speeders. Blue and red lights flashed beside Das as the Corpo speeders closed in on either side. They were matching her speed well enough to keep her caught between them. She reached for her blaster again, but the speeder on her right rammed against the GT, knocking her Night Sniper into the floorboard.

Dammit!” Das yelled, hitting the steering wheel with her fist. She pressed the pedal as hard as she could, but the GT was already well over top speed. The Corpo on her left bashed into her, loosening her grip on the wheel. The GT swerved into the right-side speeder, which promptly rammed her back into the middle. If she couldn’t think of something fast, they’d wreck her GT and send her spiraling into the levels below.

Das frantically tapped the dashboard controls, pulling up the short-range scanner. She was completely boxed in by CorpSec, save for her immediate rear. There was a good distance between the GT and the oncoming traffic behind…

That’s it!” It was a risky maneuver, one she’d only ever tried once, but it was her only chance at ditching these Corpos. If she could slam the emergency brakes at the right time, her GT would drop back and the Corpo speeders would collide. It was worth a shot.

The Squib took a hard right.

The garbage hauler tilted up on one side, careening into the wide turn as the speeder very nearly flipped over. Instead, the Squib clipped a Zeltron on a swoop bike and that provided enough resistance for the garbage hauler to fishtail back down onto the road.

Except, apparently he'd taken a wrong turn and now there were Corpos surrounded a chick.

"Coming through!" Ree shouted, as the garbage hauler's brakes squealed as the furball tried to change direction again. This thing didn't exactly handle like a Formula One racing speeder.

Good opportunity for the girl to jump onto the garbage hauler if she wanted though.

The Squib put the pedal to the floor again, taking a side street as he tried to get the hell out of there.

....Our Sushi chef however ungracefully exited the speeder, getting a good crack across his knee against the side of the oncoming one. Ouch! Sithspit! "Thanks." He breathed heavily, almost out of breath, clinging on to her hands, trying to scramble upwards. "Owe you a meal if we get out of this!" He said in a low voice. "Two if we can get my speeder back," and a whole lot more besides!

"Deal." I quip curtly at Batch Batch , a little busy at present.

"Any meat on your fancy buffet?" The police speeder jerks to one side, then another as I'm simultaneously dodging traffic and a Corpo copper trying to off us.

As I see the Corpo try to line up a shot, I quickly go for the searchlight; an extendo-arm emerges from the body of my police speeder and I hit him in the face with the bright light, blinding him and causing him to miss wildly.

Now I jam the throttle and drop the flaps, maneuvering us over Batch's ride high and to the right. Carefully, I descend over the speeder in his blind spot while trying to avoid the trail of smoke coming from the flaming black vehicle.

Round 4 Post, -1 from the previous roll
Previous Roll: "Pull over now!"

"What did you do?" She all but screamed, motioning that she did NOT care for the gunships. She had an idea, but if this was who she thought… Maybe they had another idea. Gaining control she was watching ahead.

"I guess they don't like Disruptors!" Cassus roared and allowed himself a devilish smile, and raised his Darkwire Disruptor behind him to fire on one of the less protected speeder bikes. His finger pulled the trigger, and nothing happened. Thinking he lacked enthusiasm, he angrily pulled again a second and third time before he realized something was wrong.

"Feth!" It was getting hot, very very dangerously hot.

He chucked the spontaneously defective equipment behind him as blaster bolts whizzed past him. Half a second later all of its tibanna gas ignited and detonated. A fireball engulfed a pair of speeder bikes and half a building setting it all ablaze. It definitely wasn't supposed to do that...

"Sorry!" The apology was rather weak all things considered, but at least he wouldn't be repeating that fireball now.

Watching those gunships she was not sure how this was going to go. But there was the idea that someone nearby could help. Watching the other gunship she nodded. Maybe it was what she needed. The cab was not the best but she could make it run faster. She really needed Cuan here. The Sullustan was the master pilot. The one who kept her ass out of many a firefight.

This one was using disruptors?! She had lived along the Rim for many a year, but fething disruptors? Who were these people running around on Denon? But that was when it dawned on her… She had a way to get clear. If the gunships were running for someone with that type of weaponry.

And with that sort of fire power? Yeah, Peyton wasn't going to be taking any of that heat. Looking, she saw her opening, after the fireball, she dove the cab down, heading for the streets, heading for traffic. She could get in and blend away with the rest of the cabs.

All she needed was a little luck.

Round 5
Previous roll : 2
Interacting with : Under Foot Under Foot

"Coming through!" Ree shouted, as the garbage hauler's brakes squealed as the furball tried to change direction again. This thing didn't exactly handle like a Formula One racing speeder.

Apparently it was the Corpo’s lucky day, since she didn’t get to kill anyone before the Squib (she thinks his name was Foot?) being comes in with a garbage hauler, calling out. She manages to grab a necklace kept in the stolen bag through the open window before climbing onto the hauler. They race off, leaving the dumbstruck police behind.

Samnai settles in, murmuring a “Thank you,” while shoving the necklace in her jacket. It felt disappointing to have lost the rest of it, but at least this one could still fetch some money. Some quick-thinkers seem to be catching on again, so she pulls out a gun in case they get too close.

“I will watch out for the police, drive fast.”

4S5ImD3.png

And now he was on the run. What happened that the alarm tripped? Ah, didn't matter. Zenric hopped up into the rafters, running across a beam to stay out of sight. Good choice, given Corpo burst through the doors where he just was. He whistled. With his mute on, of course. Last thing he'd do was alert guards to where he was when he didn't have to. Then proceeded to cut the painting free of it's canvas. Roll it up, tuck it away in a tube specifically for it.

He wasn't going to carry a portrait around after all. That tucked away, he proceeded onward. Get outside, get going. Shouldn't be too hard to escape, right?

Das held her breath as she yanked the emergency brake back, bringing her GT to a near-complete stop. The CorpSec speeders zoomed ahead, and just as she’d predicted, one of them pulled the wheel to bash into her; Only this time, there wasn’t a speeder between them to buffer the blow. The Corpos collided into one another, sending sparks and hunks of metal flying as their frames ground together. The speeder on the right pulled away, but his partner wasn’t as lucky. The left-hand Corpo spiraled out of control, his speeder too badly damaged to maneuver after the collision. It smashed into a hovering holo-sign and exploded in a brilliant ball of flames and debris.

The remaining CorpSec speeder began to gradually decelerate, and Das flashed a snarky grin as she sped the GT passed him and back into the bulk of traffic. She couldn’t help but laugh, a mixture of excitement, nerves, and pride swirling inside her.

Did you see that?!” she shouted as she turned the volume knob on her dashboard up.

Sam Kolburn Sam Kolburn replied with something along the lines of ‘far too risky’ and ‘never do that again,’ but the music was too loud for her to hear him clearly. His face disappeared from the screen of her comm-link. Das accelerated the GT quickly but steadily, not wanted to shock the system from the sudden stunt she’d performed. Repairing a speeder was one thing, rebuilding one after you’ve busted the throttle and crashed it into a cloudcutter is another beast entirely. She’d need to take it slow back to the safe house.

The remaining Corpo was locked on but kept his distance. His speeder couldn’t handle much more than tailing her after the damage it sustained, but if Das knew anything about the Seccers, it’s that he was keeping an eye on her and reporting back to his squad. There’d be more speeders on her tail if she couldn’t break his line of sight. She dialed the music down.

Sam, I need to lose this guy - do you see anything on the scanner that could help?

The AI’s face materialized on the comm-link, but he was focused on an invisible data repository that Das couldn’t see. He stared unblinkingly, his eyes flicking back and forth for several moments before he gave her a smile. “There’s a tunnel up ahead, through the cloudcutters. If you take the second maintenance route on the right, you’ll be routed for Seven Corners.

You’re brilliant!” Das said to Sam as he beamed, returning to his virtual haven.

Those maintenance routes didn’t stay open for very long. She’d have to book it or risk the blast doors pinching her GT in half, with her inside it. She accelerated her speeder steadily, gaining speed and weaving through the civilian traffic around her. The CorpSec agent kept in tow, though she was gaining a fast lead on him. As she entered the tunnel, she could see the rhythmic flashing of red and blue; The Corpos we’re coming towards her from the opposite end.

The maintenance route came into view a moment later, and she moved to the right-most air-lane to make the sharp turn.

Hang on, Sam!” she exclaimed, both hands on the wheel.

Saija Kwann Saija Kwann
Previous Roll: 5 (4+1 New Rules) You're getting away, just a little father! Add 1 (2) to your next roll and use the new result.

While Saija Kwann blinded the corpo! Batch's shot went right for his blaster, hitting it dead on, and knocking it out of his hand. He looked at the weapon surprised. Despite the smoke coming out of the back of his old ride, and his bum knee, the Atrisian sushi chef wasn't going to give up on it yet! "Nice moves!" he had to admit, that shutta corpo was going down!

Any meat?

Favorite topic. There wasn't a sushi type around that Batch wouldn't try, "Drifters from the shadowport go for the Ham and Green Eggs, been experimenting with a friend's fried nori sausage mix, locals like it. Thinking of swapping in tiger prawns."

There was a screeching of speeder horns, and he ducked low again, Saija making her move over and behind the flaming vehicle. Clinging on as she tried the maneuver. He was going to have to try to jump, wasn't he? Unless… he pointed ahead. There was a large pool of water to the right, could they force the speeder into it? Clip it on the back. Save the ride, he could rescue it later. Might even get that fire out.

CRACK

A large piece of the flaming speeder ahead broke off and flew towards him...

"I'm on it. Hold onto your chopsticks."

-- great minds think alike; I instantly read his signal and nudge the speeder with the forward steering vane of our ride, then ease the throttle, causing the hovercar to yaw and go careening into a reservoir

"We can discuss recovery and repair fees over lunch."
-- jams the throttle, making like a bat out of hell

Round 5 Post, -1 from the previous roll
Previous Roll: "Pull over now!"

Cassus wasn't totally disarmed, but he was done a rather significant part of his arsenal. The weight of the loot was definitely slowing him down, and the remaining speeders and Gunships were beginning to get uncomfortably close. There was no way he was going to be able to keep this up for long. He need more speed, but he wasn't willing just yet to let go of his ill-gotten gains.

He had an idea, but if he pushed it too far, he was going to be in serious trouble.

True to nature, Cassus started to twist knobs, break limiters, and kick his Speeder. Amazingly, the acceleration began to pick up with earnestness... but after a few moments, he began to realize.

'Kark is that brake fluid?!"

ROUND 5
Vehicle: Speeder Taxi
Previous Roll: 3 | "They're after me!"
This Roll: 0 modifier

She screamed while blaster bolts flew, absorbing harmlessly into the side of the dumpster-on-repulsors that fishtailed into her path, careening toward the taxi itself.

Her driver saw it too, and all three of the Gran's eyes bugged out as he punched the little speeder taxi forward, chugging just out of the way before the trash speeder clipped the back of their vehicle. He swore, the teen screamed, and for a moment the two were perfectly aligned for the first time all day. Daiya felt her voice give out, breathing hard from the exertion, catching the driver's third eye for a moment. She grinned half-heartedly at him, "Betcha thought we were goners, there."

Daiya slid forward into her seat again, leaning toward the front without her blaster trained on the Gran this time. "See? We made it out past the Seccers, now all you gotta do is drive."

Now Daiya felt like she was repeating herself, though it was something worth repeating. Her driver was already benefiting, all she had to do now is get back to Seven Corners. "Take that tunnel..."

The young shadowrunner pointed the Gran towards a small maintenance tunnel opening beyond the typical traffic patterns. He balked at her, but she cut him off, "Do you want another trash hauler to almost run into you? They can't fit in there, and CorpSec's too busy chasing them now."

That seemed to convince him, and the teen wore a satisfied grin on her face as they plunged into the darkness of the tiny maintenance tunnel. The taxi speeder slowed, which worked to her advantage. Daiya sat back in her seat, breathing slowly as she tried to let the tension in her body relax. If she could make it clear out of the district, she'd be in a different CorpSec territory, hopefully one who weren't out in force today.

She bolted forward when a new speeder joined them in the maintenance tunnel. Her blaster was ready, but the lack of lights and CorpSec decals made her hesitate. "You must be in a pinch to be in here," Daiya called to the driver of the other speeder. She squinted through the windows of the vehicle, trying to make out the...teenage girl driving it?! "I like your style."

The speeder was hardly the target of her conversation, Daiya was looking instead at the girl's hair. Green. She grinned in approval at the kindred spirit beside her.

The way luck was working for her? Well, it wasn't. She'd rather have no luck at all than these sort of swaying luck … attacks? It was all she could see it as. She was looking up, thinking the escape was so close, then as her stolen cab moved, another Corpo came up. Fething Corellian Hells! Getting to the traffic line, there was a wall of Corpo cars, lights on and seeming to follow her path. That, and the roadblock ahead of her. Cussing again, she whipped the cab down an alleyway, clipping the side.

This wasn't a starfighter, and it was clear that it wasn't. Fluid leaking from engine, the power was being lost and no amount of hacking could re-route systems on a fething cab. Shaking her head, the blonde was looking for a place to put it down… As it skid across the next main thoroughfare and into a building.

"Well, that's as good as that…" Peyton said to herself as she looked at the cab. Grabbing her sidearm she looked to the roof, firing a grappling line up, she was moving to climb, and get out of dodge.

These Darkwire kids…

"Is that a... taxi?" Das thought quizzically as the speeder came into view. She could make out the driver, a Gran by the looks of him, but it was his passenger that interested her most.

"You must be in a pinch to be in here. I like your style."

Das let out a sigh of relief. Her GT certainly couldn't handle another run-in with CorpSec, and the maintenance tunnel was her last-ditch effort to shake them offer her tail.

"I didn't know taxis took these tunnels!" Das called out to the neighboring speeder, making light of their predicament. The Gran seemed less than enthused about the shortcut, but the girl looked glad to have paired off onto the maintenance route. She must've been on the run as well. There was something vaguely familiar about her, but Das couldn't quite place it... was she at the museum during the heist? Or someplace else? She was sure the girl was a fellow shadowrunner, but Das had never actually met her before.

"Amaya, the maintenance tunnel exits into a different city sector - I can't get a read on the CorpSec channels here, however, so be prepared for anything," SAM said, breaking Das' train of thought and redirecting her attention to the task at hand.

With luck, the Corpos hadn't been roused to high alert here. Would make slipping away much easier. She just needed to blend in, match her pace with the surrounding traffic once she exited the tunnel. If she could stick with the taxi, she'd probably seem less conspicuous. She slowed the GT, trying to stay neck-and-neck with the Gran and the teen as they approached the tunnel exit.

EPILOGUE

This sucked. A huge case of priceless Museum Artifacts was ditched so he could avoid going to prison a third- or was it the fourth time?-- going to prison again. He had no idea who tipped off CorpSec, but this should have been a blue milk run. They had all their bases covered; all corners of the district hit simultaneously; there shouldn't have been enough resources to pursue them all at once.

The worst part of it, though, was hearing about all the hauls everyone else still managed to get despite the complications. He was one of the very few who turned up with nothing. The mission was otherwise successful.

Nice haul, Hex. He congratulated the Shadowrunner via message.

This sucked.
