Faction Don't Get Too Bordal (The Rebellion)

hZFxlpS.png

Welcome to Bordal. Once, a decent place to live. Now? Decades of governments taking the planet only to fall apart have left it ripe for gangs to take over. Several gangs now populate it's surface, waging wars over territory for all manner of illegal activity. Slavery, arms dealing, Spice. Nothing was off limits. And without outside support, the locals simply weren't enough to stand up against them. Now they keep their heads down, trying to get enough credits to move off world. Not that any do. Between paying for 'protection' and the lack of honest spacers stopping by to be hired, none had any hope of escaping left.

The Rebellion was here for only one reason. The arms and munitions that could be bought from the Red Vipers were supposedly untraceable. The idea behind it was simply using a lesser evil to fight the larger one. Kahlil hadn't known much about Bordal, even through scanning the holoweb for information. Seemed the gangs didn't allow word to get out, less some major government try to use the planet as a ground for some 'good will'. The little he did find were postings about the crimes taking place. No evidence behind it, just calls for help.

He stepped down off his freighter, hands in his pockets. The Space Port already looked as bad as what he figured. Dirty. Thugs everywhere. Out of the corner of his eye he could even see a spice trade in broad daylight. There was no law here to be enforced. But, there was a mission. The tall Jedi took a breath before heading to the location singled out. He'd meet up with the others of the Rebellion here to pick up the shipment there, then they'd go visit these Red Vipers.

After that, he'd feel more free to do something about what was going on.

Caedyn's Starfighter descended upon the landing platform of Bordal's Spaceport, going through the civilian protocols of requesting and being granted landing permissions, his vessel's IFF Tags clean and doing nothing to give away his identity as a Jedi Knight or member of the so-far small group of Rebels the Galaxy had yet to really be introduced to in any scale large enough to call attention to himself.

Greeting the maintenance worker and their droid, Caedyn gave them access to all but the cockpit itself so they could refuel and service the small craft while he would move on ahead to tend to the mission he and the others had agreed to undertake.

There on Bordal the local authorities were minor at best, outnumbered and overwhelmed by the numerous gangs that had turned the greater settlements on the planet into their own criminal underground. Criminal activity here had become the new norm, and the locals had learned to live in fear throughout their everyday lives, having to look over their shoulders while simply walking down the street for fear of being mugged or fired upon for sharing an ill-timed glance at those who took pleasure in intimidating the innocent. It was a real mess of a place and exactly the kind of environment that needed people like the Rebels that had come together in the recent weeks.

"This is Caedyn, I'm on the ground and heading your way" the incognito Jedi Knight spoke into his comm's unit, informing his peers that he'd arrived and had started to make his way to rendezvous with Kahlil and the others who had decided to join them.

Aeshi saw Caedyn pass not far away as she handed over the bags of credits in exchange for the small crate of giggledust spice. It would make a tidy profit in more stabilized space. Even with the League legalizing most forms of the non destructive forms of spice, including giggledust, there was still no real production chain yet. So she’d been snagging whatever she could get her hands on take back and sell. The taxes were much higher than normal, about thirty percent, but the profit margin was still high enough to be worth it.

She tapped the edge of her com link to send a squelch of acknowledgment as she slung the box above her shoulder and tied it tight.

The plan was a little fuzzy, but that was fine with her. It would go wrong, so better to stay flexible.

But still, trying to break the grips of three major gangs was certainly an ambitious project. She had the two new Morellian guns tucked beneath her arms and hidden beneath her jacket. Behind, her copilot nodded and strode away from the transaction. He was a tall, brightly covered Imyni with a rakish headband tied around his head feathers, and carried a long vibro-glaive leaned against his shoulder.

He squawked and screeched. Aeshi listened and then nodded. “Alright, alright, we’ll go meet them.”

She tipped her hat to the giggledust seller and strode off to meet the others.

One of the strengths of a rebellion was the ability to hide. Drawing overt attention to the organization - in the early stages at least - was very much not a smart move as it tended to get people killed and stop the effort cold. In spite of that many of the command team were again gathering together, this time on Bordal for an arms deal. A single shipment wouldn't need so many of them but this carried the suggestion of a steady supply. Such likewise carried risk of betrayal or exposure, especially when the supplying party was a criminal gang.

This sort of enhanced risk was now a part of life, time to get used to it.

Cover stories helped. Audren's was simple: he wasn't there, at least not in name or description. Bordal was a planet overtaken by violent crime and while the more brutal locals prevented galactic governments from gaining a foothold there were a number of charities and relief organizations that had a focus on the planet. He supplied a transport and cargo for one at a discount and in return they allowed him to use them for cover...so long as his actions didn't jeopardize their safety or mission. Four beings flew in on a light freighter carrying a cargo hold full of goods in addition to some specialty gear. He was in a disguise of course, limited though it was. Spacer leather was a far cry from business-wear or Jedi robes, long blond hair was loosely tied back, and a fake scar decorated one cheek. Various weapons were partially concealed on his body, his lightsaber not among them.

This particular relief organization was focused around the civilians on-planet. The team was headed by Corde Ajint; it was her third trip bringing in food, medical supplies, and other equipment. She and the local team worked with the natives and tried to keep them from being swallowed up by the violence, to keep them away from the gangs. The gangs didn't much like this of course, so when the shipments were brought in guards were also present. That was Audren's cover. He specifically was 'tasked' with guarding the crates of Tirenhen armor that the organization was providing to certain people. The intention was to keep civilians who lived close to contested areas alive without the need to join the gangs for protection. Once the crates were safely unloaded and delivered to the local headquarters, he wandered off.

The Sephi's earbud relayed that Caedyn was on his way to the rendezvous point. There was a squelch as well to indicate that someone else was also in play, though it didn't identify who. A quick adjustment of his jacket let him flip on the tiny lapel mic. He kept his response short, the better to limit tracking and vocal recognition.

"En route."

They were meeting with a gang that called themselves the Red Vipers. Supposedly the arms they supplied couldn't be traced; while there was almost always a catch of some sort, he and the others were willing to take a look. At least, until they could ramp up their own production lines and find ways that their weapons wouldn't reveal their involvement.
