Discussion Do Things Seem a Little Stale?

Stale to me but we've had this conversation. Won't get into the reasons I think its stale right now but instead I'll try to be positive and say with the World Cup (thankfully) over and back-to-school around the corner, perhaps things will pick up. Going to try to hold off on my negative thoughts on a wider forum until mid-August.

Also a shameless plug on my end if anyone is looking for corpo/political stories I am too with this guy, hit me up.

Like Makai Dashiell Makai Dashiell said, I'd rather not get into the how and why of the slump/stale state here. Though I must mention that I've been steadily maintaining a position on the top poster list these past two weeks for the first time in literal years.

That is very much abnormal and I make a point of not making the list.

Something's in the water

I'll hit you up once I wrap up some threads.

It’s probably a combination of a few things:

1. Yeah, summer definitely has something to do with it, cause people be traveling
2. At least as far as the U.S is concerned, we had the World Cup, some golf tournaments and basketball finals, so people were distracted about that
3. There are a LOT of IRL shenanigans going around the world atm, which I suspect may be keeping people occupied
4. We haven’t had any new members join since 4th of July, which is a little usual for this site

Does this mean that the RP is stale, however? Not for me it isn’t, thought I’ll admit things do seem to be a bit slower than perhaps some of us are used to. That I attribute to the state of our map. Think of it this way: we have 5 major factions atm. Two sith, two Mando, and one republic/rebel, though it’s not really that. Anyway, of those five factions, three are directly or indirectly allied with each other, meaning they can’t really shake things up cause they can’t launch invasions or offensive RPs against a big chunk of the map. Plus, by that same token, their aren’t any “real” opposition for these factions like Imperial, rebel, or criminals, for them to target or collaborate with, hence why in my not so humble opinion things feel a bit frozen atm. This is not a jab or critique or “salt fest” or anything, it’s just a reality of the board, I’m afraid.

Don’t get me wrong, their are still plenty of people making amazing stories and threads (which correct me if I’m wrong, didn’t you write a whole article on that), and like I said, I’m still having a great time with everything! I personally wouldn’t jump on the doom and gloom “chaos is dying” bandwagon yet if that’s where you were maybe going. Give it a couple weeks, see where things go, maybe try some new threads or perhaps some different characters? You’re definitely one of my favorite writers, but everyone gets into a slump now and again. You got this!

It's been normal for me on the forum, which is always slow, ha ha! Things haven't changed for me. I just keep plugging away at whatever I have going, and put up more ideas in LFG when I have nothing to reply to. I have no involvement in the map game, and only look at it every once in a while. I had no idea that there are TWO Mando factions now? It just goes to show how little I pay attention to the map, ha ha!

I am the only confirmed grass toucher on the site just fyi.

But yes, it is possible that it is a normal slow period for Chaos, but-

Chaos has been here since 2013. Exponential growth isn't possible. But to Ronhar's point, I think that's largely true. There's not a lot of wars in Star Wars at the moment. Chaos is at best when there's conflict involved, and there's just not a lot of it. Opposition against self and NPCs only can drive people so much, if you ask me. But we've been here for nearly 15 years now, at some point, the train will and has slowed down.

It could be the summer slump, it could be a lot of things. I would mainly attribute it to a lack of far-reaching and constant conflict, frankly same-same major factions that are emulating something that's been done before, save for THR, which, in my opinion, is more organic than the other factions on the board. I think that's what drives their activity and writer base.

I think we should save the doom and gloom, we still have well over a hundred people writing here every day and then some. That's an achievement and great to see. On my break I've been reading private threads and thinking a lot, and it's led me to really appreciate other people's works a lot, even people I would not normally find myself reading. We're in a good spot, I have no reason to despair when I come back to writing full-time here in a few weeks. But yes, things are stale if you ask me.
