OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: Add a little depth and history to my character's homeworld, Galidraan.
  • Image Credit: Made myself, with help from Fiolette Raaf for the Galidraan logo.
  • Canon: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Links: Galidraan
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Media Name: Ditton's Peerage, Baronetage, and Knightage
  • Format: Published in paper books as well as digitally.
  • Distribution: Common - Ditton's is available to anyone with access to the Holonet and a credit chit for subscription fees. The book version is also available widely and can be delivered anywhere (within reason). However, the book is probably of limited interest to the galaxy at large.
  • Length: Recurring - Published biannually, the book is massive. However, it is not intended to be read cover-to-cover, as it is a reference guide.
  • Description: Ditton's Peerage, Baronetage, and Knightage, commonly known as "Ditton's" or "Ditton's Peerage," is part directory, part genealogy, and part history, documenting the current and historical great houses of Galidraan's history, ranging from its royal houses to the major aristocracy (the Peerage), minor aristocracy (the Baronetage), and those lineages recognized, but not ennobled, by the Galidraani monarchy for services to the Crown (the Knightage).
SOCIAL INFORMATION
  • Author: A team of historians and genealogists, employed by Camden Media Group's publishing arm, updates new editions every other year.
  • Publisher: Camden Media Group
  • Reception: It considered is the definitive source of genealogical and historical information on Galidraan's aristocracy and its reception depends on whether such a definitive source of information is useful and interesting or not. Most people would find it useless, many would find it dull, and a few would think it idiotic to continue to document Galidraan's aristocratic legacy.
FORMAT INFORMATION
Biannually updated, Ditton's has been published on Galidraan for over two millennia years. The copyright was purchased by Camden Media Group in 855 ABY. Since that time, CMG has begun to digitize older versions to be available to subscribers to the Holonet version.

CONTENT INFORMATION
The first portion of the book is the directory-type section, listing out the great houses of Galidraan, first by rank (in descending order: Royal Families, Dukes, Marquesses, Earls, Viscounts, Barons, Baronets, and Knights), then alphabetically. These entries direct users to the page in the second and third sections (the genealogical and historical sections, respectively) where the family's entry begins. On digital versions, these entries are hyperlinked to allow ease of access.

The genealogical entries for each family contain the current holder of the title, his or her parents, and their status (alive, deceased, etc.), his or her grandparents, and their status, and so forth as far back as the line can be verified. For example, the entry for the Vitalis family (historically Dukes of Foxfield and lately Earls of Herevan) documents that the current holder is George Vitalis, and that his parents were Talbot Vitalis, Duke of Foxfield (deceased) and Natasi Vitalis (née Fortan, deceased), Countess of Herevan, and that his grandparents were Nicholas Vitalis (deceased) and Jessamine Vitalis (née Moray, living), and Frejrik Fortan (deceased) and Reima Fortan (née Esperell, deceased). This would continue going back along the family tree as far as possible, and would also include as a matter of note siblings in the main family line.

The historical entries for each faction then include how and when each family came to their title and information deemed to be of historical import, including high offices, battles, scandals, and other events. This section would also include disposition of the title and whether it is currently extant, and if not, how the line came to be extinct. The history of the main family line and other cadet branches, to the extent that they are of historical relevance, are detailed in this section.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Originally published by Armstrong Ditton, Duke of Midalsber, over two thousand years ago, it was designed as a primer to explain the ins and outs of Galidraani aristocracy, including genealogy and history. He found the growing aristocracy on Galidraan to be difficult to follow and impossible to memorize, so he hired a team of researchers to get it all straight and, more importantly, to get it all written down. When he mentioned this to a friend, they expressed enthusiastic interest in it and Ditton decided to have it published, which contributed to his already considerable whaling fortune. Over the years, Ditton's publishing house was bought and sold over the years, along with the copyright to Ditton's Peerage, Baronetage, and Knightage, which was purchased by Camden Media Group in 855. Camden Media Group has been publishing it in the traditional biannual schedule since then.
