GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Religion Name: Diti h'oka
  • Religion Type: Dualtheist
  • Influence: Planetary
  • Influence Area: Cathar
  • Symbol: While many of the catharese clans follow this religion, their symbol for it tends to vary.
  • Description: The two deities within the practice of Diti h’oka are Diti and Ha'uyroda. Diti is considered the personification of honor, while Ha’uyroda is the personification of corruption. While they are deities, their names are direct translations to what they represent. Most of the cathar do not believe that either gods effect anything on the physical plane of existence, and instead choose what happens to those who pass on to the great beyond. Being chosen for eternal glory within the light of Diti is the preferred goal of every cathar that follows this religion, while ending up in the grasp of Ha’uyroda is widely feared. What mainly decides where a being ends up in death is how people will remember them when they are gone. Thus, retaining honor is paramount to securing one’s afterlife.
SOCIAL INFORMATION
  • Founders: The original cathar clans that started rebuilding following the mandalorian genocide of the cathar race.

  • Membership: Most are born into it, but a ceremony is not needed to begin following it. One must simply believe in it. Race holds no consequence in the eyes of Diti. Some of the rajoré laokal are known to follow Diti

  • Sacred: Other than the temples of Diti within the long abandoned cathar cities, there are not many other sacred objects other than amulets or trinkets with the clan’s symbol for Diti upon them. Some believe it is the temples being abandoned that have put the cathar in their current state, and they hope to reclaim them in order to regain the favor of Diti

  • Dogma: In order to not be claimed as a wretch by Ha’uyroda, one must follow Diti’s code of honor. This mostly means being honest, keeping one’s word, and never wronging those who haven’t wronged you first. For the average catharese civilian, the tenets are what one would expect from most religions. The true focus of this religion comes into play when one focuses upon war, due to the cathar being a warrior race. Within catharese society, the highest honor one can achieve is dying for a cause they genuinely believe in, no matter what that cause may be. This is why, within cathar culture, taking prisoners is considered an act of dishonor. Denying someone an honorable death is considered dishonorable in of itself. Thus, the practitioners of this religion are notorious for not taking prisoners in battle. In the edicts of Dita, ‘One is not fit to have honor in death if they are not willing to give a fellow warrior the same’. There is a second significant tradition expected of catharese warriors. When they come of age, they are expected to embark on a Siin Stjolkk, or a ‘Blood Hunt’ in basic. These Blood Hunts are an ancient tradition within catharese culture. They double as a way to clear out Kiltik infestations, but the true purpose is for warriors to prove themselves. To finalize the training of a catharese warrior, the warrior is sent into a kiltik nest alone to clear it out. However, it’s not a live or die situation. Fellow catharese warriors are put on watch to save the warrior should they be overwhelmed. To fail in battle is not something to be ashamed of in the eyes of Dita. One can always try the Blood Hunt once again after more training, or it can prove a valuable lesson to those who aren’t meant for battle. A message for them to choose a different path in life. Choosing a different path is not a shameful action either, for the world always needs more tradesmen. Not to mention, cathar are far too few these days to be letting their own die to kiltik.

  • Reputation: To those who have been to cathar and know of this religion, it’s general practitioners are known to be friendly enough. There’s no zealous hostility against non worshippers in the edicts of Dita after all. Though the belief that ending a life is better than taking a prisoner also causes Diti h’oka to be regarded as a backwards and savage religion to those from more civilized parts of the galaxy.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

Diti h’oka has been the dominant religion on cathar since time immemorial at this point. Though due to the current condition of the species, the true history of Diti h’oka has been lost for generations. What few catharese scholars there are suspect that Dita was in fact not the personification of honor, but instead a great warrior who’s name became synonymous with honor. Meanwhile, the term for kiltik in the language high cathar is Ha’uyroda, making it evident that kiltik have long been the ancient enemies of the cathar. However, despite there being theories on how this religion came to be, it is a mystery lost to time until the cathar are able to once more look upon their great libraries of knowledge that have been lost within their now decrepit, kiltik infested cities.

In a time lost to the cathar, Diti was the name of the first clan to establish a foothold and make progress towards rebuilding cathar society follwing the cathar genocide. They grew into the biggest catharese clan to ever exist. The heads of clan Diti, knowing that the rest of the world needed to be retaken, split their clan into parts and sent them all to different parts of the world. Those clans are now considered the royal clans, from which every clan was born from. The reality is that the religion of Diti H'oka is actually the rules of clan Dita that have ended up carried through the generations as a religion as history became lost to it's followers. Over time, there has not been much change to Diti H'oka. However, the warrior's rules have not been used in a long time, as the catharese have not gone to war with eachother or otherwise for a long time, and the rules of Diti do not apply to the kiltik threat since they are not sentient.

Under Review Talohn Atar Talohn Atar

It's always interesting to see more religions on Chaos! They tend to be less explored parts of the fandom. I like that you incorporated the Blood Hunt that's been mentioned as being part of Cathar religion. I do have a couple of tweaks to request before I approve this.

  • It's okay to say that lots of Cathar follow this religion, but not that all Cathar follow it, or that its principles are "the goal of every Cathar". Cathar are canon, and this religion is not; other writers who write Cathar characters can't be bound to using this, or even knowing about it. I would instead specify that it is extremely common among the Cathar clans, or something similar. Please change the Symbol and Description sections to reflect that.

  • Under Founder, it's okay for people in-character to not know, but we Out-of-Character folks should have some idea. When did the religion originate / how old is it? It's fine to just say that it originated among ancient Cathar clans, but put something here.

  • Under Membership, are there any non-Cathar followers of this religion? Would they be welcome if they tried to convert?

  • I'd like to see a little more in Historical Information, though this is optional. How has the religion changed over time? How has it shaped Cathar society and culture during major events like the Mandalorian Wars or Clone Wars?

Let me know if you have any questions!
