DESCRIPTION

The Devourers Maw is a lightsaber crafted by Kor Vexen using a shard of Umbral Horror crystal. It encases the crystal in a ribbed core with a Phrik spiral shell to prevent it from being destroyed by another lightsaber. It was heavier than most standard lightsabers, making it less suitable for more elegant and refined combat, but much more effective with brutal swings and cleaves. Unlike most Sith lightsabers that produce a consistent crimson blade, the Devourers Maw produces a crimson blade when activated that becomes darker with each life it takes until it has become black. It possesses all the standard qualities expected of a lightsaber, being able to carve its way through any material with relative ease granted said the material is not resistant to lightsabers, however, it possesses a number of effects that make it particularly dangerous to any living creature within its presence.

The Devourers Maw had the innate qualities of Katak, which siphoned the very life force of those in close proximity when activated, and even more so when it inflicted wounds upon an enemy. It would take the very life force it siphons and uses it to empower the wielder, healing whatever wounds they receive during combat and revitalizing their strength. Theoretically, the wielder could battle indefinitely till either they either died instantly or the wielder inflicted too few injuries upon enemies to sate its hunger. It was both the lightsaber's greatest strength as well as its greatest weakness. While active, the Devourers Maw creates a powerful dark side aura around the wielder, enhancing the abilities of dark side force powers as well as empowering those attuned with the Dark side of the force whilst weakening the powers of those who were attuned to the Light.

The Umbral Horror that serves as the core of the Devourers Maw is in and of itself its own creature. It seems to possess a will of its own and pulses its ravenous energy like a beating heart. When the Devourers Maw is active, the aura it emits is powerful and can be detected far and wide by those sensitive to the ebb and flow of the Force, much like that of a Force Nexus, and while active begins to reach out to siphon life from all living creatures around it, including the wielder if they fail to serve the blade's hunger.

Strengths |
  • [ Creature of the Dark ] - The power of a lightsaber built with this crystal increases the wielder's strength with the Force for every wound it inflicts, revitalizing their strength with the pain and suffering of their foes. To a lesser extent, this allows the wielder to enhance their own body's regenerative properties at a rapid pace in a short span of time. In other words, the more wounds it inflicts, the longer the wielder can fight on.
  • [ Umbral Horror ] - The Umbral Horror shard that serves as the beating heart of the lightsaber is its greatest strength, enhance dark side effects and powers of both the wielder and those around them whilst hindering the effects of light side powers.
  • [ Lambs to the Slaughter ] - The Devourers Maw excels in situations where the wielder is surrounded by enemies, siphoning much more life from more than one source at a time
Weaknesses |
  • [ Resistance ] - Like any other lightsaber, the Devourers Maw remains ineffective against materials that are resistant to lightsabers such as songsteel, beskar, or phrik.
  • [ Double-Edged Sword ] - As much as the blade serves the wielder to their benefit, it can also be their greatest detriment. Failure to sate the hunger of the blade causes it to feed off the wielders' life force at a rapid and alarming rate. If it is to be activated, it is best to be used during large scale battles where slaughter is abundant. In the absence of enemies, the blade will also siphon the life force of allies indiscriminately.
  • [ Not the Time to Duel ] - The aforementioned reason for the Devourers Maw being a detriment to the owner is made more apparent in extended duels against highly defensive opponents. While the blade will gradually siphon off the life force of a single opponent, those skilled enough to avoid being harmed by the blade will greatly diminish its ability to revitalize the wielder from damage inflicted by wounds. As a result, the blade will siphon strength off the wielder as well.
  • [ Artifact of Darkness ] - Like any artifact made by the Sith, the Devourers Maw is particularly vulnerable to effects and abilities of the Light that are specifically used to inflict harm or destroy them. Though it would take extensive and numerous attempts to completely destroy, its effects can be hindered if not nullified temporarily if assaulted by such Light side abilities.
