OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION

  • Intent: To create a company to flesh out Max's backstory and give him a purpose in role-playing.
  • Image Credit: Made it myself.
  • Canon: N/A.
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Links: Max Devern
GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Organization Name: Devern Robotics, often DevBot for short.
  • Classification: Company
  • Affiliation: Incorporated in the Galactic Alliance
  • Organization Symbol: A humanoid arm and a robotic arm side by side/see above.
  • Description: Devern Robotics is a droid engineering company, specializing in droids designed for a range of defense purposes such as personal defense, office security, or industrial security.
GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

  • Headquarters: Metellos
  • Domain: DevBot is well known company on Metellos, but has little influence on the galactic stage. A single manufacturing plant on the world of Corulag is their small foothold into incorporation with the Galactic Alliance. It guarantees them only the right to work and trade in the Alliance.
  • Notable Assets: N/A
SOCIAL INFORMATION

  • Hierarchy: Max Devern is the founder and current CEO of the company, where is he is advised by his board of directors. Max is an engineer first and foremost, and thus typically defers to his business savvy board.
  • Membership: Although small by the standards of the most densely populated world in the galaxy, DevBot employs almost a million Metelleans. The company's workers vary as much as the planet's class system, from business leaders who invested in Max's start-up to poor laborers that come from a situtation much like Max did.
  • Climate: The safety of the factory floors is paramount to Max, so his workers can avoid building droids in similar conditions that he learned to, on the toxic streets. At the top of the company however is a great deal of mistrust and backstabbing from those who disapprove of Max's humble origins and especiialy those that disapprove of the questionable people he took money from to build his corporation. These people would rather see themselves, often considering themselves the "true gentry" of Metellos, at the top.
  • Reputation: The lower strata of Metellos often use Max's name as a synonym for hard-work and hope, reflecting how he rose from the bottom of a heavily class-divided society. The ultra rich gentry of the planet scoff at his success and many consider it a sham. Many openly deny his claims of a rags-to-riches story and he's caused a lot of controversy because of this.
  • Curios: N/A
  • Rules: Aside from the planetary laws of Metellos and the laws of the Alliance, employees are expected to act as they would at any other job, and they are expected to be treated with reciprocated respect.
  • Goals: DevBot's intentions are to expand to fill the many needs of the market in a chaotic galaxy by serving and protecting the individual consumer with their defense droids.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Although the company was officially founded in 857 ABY, Devern Robotics has been operating for years prior at the local, and sometimes less than legal, level. Max Devern began designing droids as a young teen for droid fighting pits (a fact which he keeps under tight wraps). Max developed a gambling problem from associating with the betting types of the droid fighting rings (a somewhat more known fact), and though he had the idea of taking his skills as a droid mechanic elsewhere, he never had the money for a long enough time to pay off his debts let alone start a business selling junk droids.

The opportunity to leave the fighting rings came when Max was 20. Although they had passed by this point in his life, his parents left him with a few connections among the companies that would become the Corporate Authorities of Denon, which they had been contractors for. For the same reason the Corporate Authorities had sent his parents to Denon, they aided Max. Their reason was expansion. Representatives of the corporations heard his calls for help and helped him with offers of loans. Taking these offers would be the first mistake of his career.

Max spent the next six years building an actual business, selling proper droids which he designed and produced with his foreign loans. Already in gambling debt, he further indebted himself to the business leaders of Denon. When his company's droids become sought after by more and more people on Metellos and not just members of the fighting scene, he officially incorporated his company with the Metellean governement.

When the cloistered rich of Metellos began using his droids to protect them in their feuds, he gained planetary recognition. Yet, his hubris kept him from paying off his benefactors. He believed that anyone able to cross the notorious class divide of his homeworld was beyond the influence of faceless suits on the other side of the Core Worlds.

For three more years after that, Max worked hard in the damaged and rebuilding market of the Deep Core and the Galactic Alliance, who he has formally incorporated his company with in 860 after the opening of a new factory on Corulag.
