SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Desric's Aegis utilises technology related to molecular shielding to absorb and reuse incoming energy; anything that does not break the Aegis ordinarily strengthens it. This even extends to kinetic weapons - while it will not deflect a bullet or block an incoming blade, their momentum and alongside it their lethality will be drastically reduced. This can only do so much against massive or unusually sharp objects.
    • There are limits to how much energy the Aegis can hold - lightsabers are a major threat, but do not cut through the Aegis. Rather, the immense and concentrated energy input will overwhelm the Aegis' capacitors relatively quickly unless the energy is dispersed in some fashion; to avoid an overload, the Aegis will shut down for a few seconds to half a minute in order to flush its capacitors.
  • Desric's Aegis doubles as a Shield Talisman - under normal circumstances, the only added benefit is that the shield is as able to affect attacks that utilise the Force as it is more mundane weapons. If the shield generator is knocked out by, say, a powerful EMP, the shield talisman part will take over primary responsibility for the wearer's safety, burning through internal reserves of Force energies in the process.
    • The shield generator will continue to function even if it is located in an area in which the Force is suppressed. Similarily, suppressing the Force Abilities of the wearer (say, with a Ysalamiri) alone does exactly nothing to disable the functions of the shield talisman - it requires no input from the user to function and draws upon its own capabilities to utilise the Force.
  • Unless forced to act as a shield talisman due to the shield generator component being disabled, Desric's Aegis will not be obviously 'magical'. It is entirely possible for a Force Sensitive individual to wear it for years without knowing about its more arcane aspects.
  • As with the more common DS-102, Desric's Aegis can shield him from temperature and other environmental conditions.
STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES
  • Safety First: Desric's Aegis provides excellent or passable protection from almost any conceivable threat. Through the absorption of energy and a design that incorporates a shield generator and a shield talisman, it is sufficiently redundant for the vast majority of situations.
  • Power Surge: Desric's Aegis can be overwhelmed by excessive energy input, particularly if attacked with lightsabers or disruptors.
  • Trickery: Designed to reduce the momentum of bullets and sword-swings, the Aegis is bypassed entirely by slow stabs.
DESCRIPTION
Desric's Aegis is a gift made for him after he was grievously wounded by a terrorist bombing; while it was never entirely clear whether he had been a target or an unlucky bystander, his Sith Lord older brother responded by forging a unique combination of shield generator and shield talisman. The advantages of the combination were not principally in performance, but in redundancy - if either works, the Aegis works.

Given the unpopular nature of the Sith and Desric's lack of Force training, the Aegis works subtly and without needing to rely on the Sensitivity of its user. As an unintended benefit, the talisman works just fine even if its user is somehow cut off from the Force, but not if it is interfered with.
