Defrosting Praise and Song

@[member="Lauda Cavataio"]

Not everything can go the way one hopes. Apparently hands off to see if the test subject would follow the original copy. It did not follow which was a good learning experience. Petra needed another, and it had to be one of the more loyal ones. The fail test subject was going to be handled later. Now the time came for the next test not to fail.

Petra returned to the stronghold she built. Deep down, beyond its core hid a chamber that the old witch knew about. It was home to a project that moved there. There were rows and rows of cases that held carbonited people. She had over time cloned her children. Many reasons could be given but deep down the answer to why was if one got uncontrollable. Then she could off them and started over with none the wiser.

When she went on a rampage and killed her blood line off. She knew of her backup children. Question had been when she would start pulling them all out. However, she started with one and watched that fail. The one she stood in front of now were more of the loyal, obedient ones. Having it moved to the large stone table, it was rested there and was told to release the body it held.

As flesh started to show, Petra went to the lab table to get a sedative for keeping the clone in slumber. The mind was not going to some clone. The plan was to reach into the depths of the force and rip her child out of there. The carbonite defrosted while Petra began to chant in two tongues. Her ancient Sith words were laced with Paecean. Her focus deepened the longer she chanted the words of magic.

There was no movement from her but the words she said aloud. Hours rolled by without end in sight. She dug deeply into the force as each word in Sith and Paecean. Once her daughter was found, violent pull through the force was done. The force identity and being of Lauda was tugged hard through the vile until she could place it into the clone body. Petra did what many Sith and cheaters of death did, but done on another person.

What was unknown, a week had gone by to achieve what she did. Deep trance and casting spells through the force drained her a bit and she had to rest. However, she wanted to be there for her daughter awakens. Petra did not do it to her first daughter she brought back. The idea of genetic memory being the strong compass to guide the daughter, but that failed. So this had to be done. The next test was to see if the original remain who she was.

The pain. Like lighting coursing through her entire being. Whatever was before the pain seemed empty. If there was something before, the pain she felt had ripped it from her. Or ripped her from it. She couldn't do nothing. She wanted to scream. It seemed like a natural thing but she didn't scream. She didn't have that within her. And then suddenly felt solid. Still. Her mind was quiet too for a while but then she could feel it reaching out, trying to make commands to the rest of her but her body didn't comply, it just lay still, quiet. And all she saw was the darkness.

A voice reached for her, in the distance. A memory. A smile came after but she didn't recognize whose smile it was. A cry. Joy. It was all blurred and her grasp but too far to reach. Foggy and so far away. Something called out to her. Muffled. Unreal. She was still so still even though her mind didn't want it so. She had no control over anything though.

Lauda. She heard a voice clearly at last and the last thing she saw in her life. A woman's face. Ma'dri. Lauda.

Her eyelids rose, her stare upward. She couldn't see fully yet though. Why? She didn't know. Lights, shapes. But nothing clear yet. It was as if she was seeing for the first time. Lauda. She heard in her mind again. It wasn't her voice though. It didn't sound like her voice. Or did it? What did her voice sound like? And why couldn't she see yet? An involuntary action occurred then, she felt her eyelids close and open quickly a few times. Adjusting. The shapes were being a little clearer, the lights weren't so bright. It still was as she thought it should. Slowly, her head turned to the side, a different shape formed. Several more involuntary actions of her eyelids opening and closing again and the shape was starting to become clear. It was... human? Yes, it was human. It was... female? Yes, it was female. She blinked a few more times and the human female began to slowly form a face she was all too familiar.

The last face she remembered so clear was the first face she saw now. She remained perfectly still, perfectly silent, just looking.

Signs of life coming from the clone after the work that was done to pull a soul through the vile, it gave a moment for internal cheering. Petra did not show outward emotion. The need for that was not necessary for the moment. What was needed for both was a very quick check up. Nothing major was needed just scans and vitals checked. Once she had her answers there, then she moved on to a little quiz. Using her tone at motherly way, she leaned over to look down at the woman on the table, the one who have been so still. “Do you remember your name?”

Her body vaguely registered the scans doing their jobs. But her head remained turned sideways even when the figure was out of sight. Her mind was still incorrect, throwing flashes at her, sounds. As if it was trying to piece everything together for her. Lauda. The voice in her head again. That part at least added up. It was focusing her attention. She heard the question then.

Did she remember her name? Her eyelids did that involuntary thing again and her irises shifted to find her again. Did she remember her name? She did, didn't she? Her name? Suddenly a serious of flashes passed her mind. A little girl with her chocolate brown eyes and brown hair, giggling crazy with a scroll in her hand. Then an older girl reading through a large book, so excited. Then another, a young girl, petting a large animal... a... rancor? That had to be a rancor. Then finally came the last face, a pair of strong arms wrapping around her.

Her lips parted an inch. She wanted to speak. Her eyes darted to the side, her mind focusing hard on this one action. To speak. Her lips force moved but no sound came from them. And she tried again. And again. Then finally, quietly, she managed to whisper: "Lauda."

Petra moved about to clean up around her daughter. The need to remove frames, scanners, and other tools was actually needed. Space to have her child to sit up or move from the table had to be clear. Then she helped Lauda to sit up. Looking at the awaken woman, focus was trying to be drawn to her. Petra kept her tone going as she spoke. “Very good, Lauda. I need you to focus on me. Just relax and focus as I told you… We'll work on calming your mind so you can come out of this fog. This is what will you... Now do you know who I am?”

Things left her side. She didn't know what things were but she felt the leave her side. She began rising then. It took her a second to realize it was the woman helping sit up. She felt a bit unstable. Slowly, her fingers slowly moved then her palms until she felt the metal beneath her and held on to its edge for balance. She was spoken to then. She heard the name again, Lauda. She knew it was hers but it somehow didn't feel like hers yet, not really.

The woman wanted her to focus on her. She felt herself blink a few more times before her eyes found the woman's face. She was to relax and focus. She tried. She really tried. They would work on calming her mind so she could come out of this fog. Fog? She was in a fog? She blinked again. That was what this was? A fog? Her mind suddenly found what a fog was and it seemed to apply to this situation. Her mind was in a fog! Slowly, she felt her head nod slowly, wanting to express understanding that way.

Did she know who the woman was? She blinked two more times, quickly as her mind pulled the word back out. She had it a few moments ago. Her lips parted again and began to form the word. This time, it didn't take several times as before though, she could actually say quietly: "Ma'dri." That was who she was. Lauda was more sure of that than anything else right now.

Well it seemed as things were going in the right direction. The two questions answered correctly were good. Other questions had to be asked to ensure her daughter’s mind settled down. Also there was a need to make sure the body was perfect after such a violent use of the force. The simple scans were giving answers to her liking but there were more detail test that needed to be run. She was thinking it could hold off until Lauda was fully aware.

Petra kept a hand on Lauda’s shoulder to help with staying seated. Her other went up to stroke her girl’s head. A tender pet with her fingers running through Lauda’s hair was given. What she wanted to know next might cause issues and violent reaction from her daughter; however, she wanted to see the depth that was there. “Good… good… This time I want to know the last thing you remember before this moment. It might be hard but you can let your mind slowly play back memories from now to then. The struggle can come from being one with the force for so long and your body can be still having a little hibernation sickness. But, I know you can do it.”

There was a hand on her sholder, her irises moved to the side and noted it as well to conform. It was odd. Then she felt a hand going through her hair. It was new. Not unfamiliar and yet new. That didn't make much sense to her. And yet that was how it felt so she accepted it right now, since the woman was speaking again.

Her irises refocused back on the woman. She realized then that her face had become a perfectly clear compared to before. Wait... the wo...Ma'dri was talking. And she wanted to know the last thing she remembered before now. The small wrinkle formed between her eyebrows as the question but more so over the answer. Her mind, it was still foggy. But one image had come to mind earlier but it had made little sense before now. Her eyebrows arched downward as the image appeared in her mind again. Her face. First time, the image came with intense feelings. But she didn't understand them. Now, the insense repeated but she didn't know why yet. She didn't understand what she was feeling.

She almost missed what else was being said because of that confusion. But she did register the bit about being one with the Force. And her body was hibernation sickness. Her head lowered though as she tried to process what she was feeling. "You. I remember you. And there... there is this... I... feel something about." She paused trying to find the words to say it all. Her gaze rose then. "It was... intense. But I don't know."

“That intense feeling you are having with remembering the past could be from when I killed you, sweetheart.” Her words came out with no care. It was like what she said was a normal thing that she did. For Petra, normalcy in killing her children could be confirmed by the number of times she had killed her eldest son in their life time. Still it was the longest she waited and it was difficult. So many asked why such acts were done and why none were immune from the acts. Petra normally chuckle and gives the answer that she does things for fun and the simple fact she could do it.

A kiss on Lauda’s forehead was given. Petra was being her motherly self with her child. A side that no one but her last mate and children saw. It was not from an idea that it was a sign of weakness. The idea of not displaying it came from her childhood and early years of her adult life.

The time came to help lay down. Petra was tender in her assisting. Back to the tone she had before admitting to killing her daughter, she instructed Lauda. “I want you to rest for couple hours. During that time, I expect my daughter that I expect perfection from to get a hold of herself and be ready for tests.”

Then Petra left Lauda there for the two hours she gave her. A little alone would be good for the mind and body. Also there was a matter she had to handle with killing another clone of Lauda she didn’t need as stand by. Unlike this one, she awoke and had it living in cell during the time she was pulling Lauda into the clone she just left.

The intense was remembering that she killed her. Lauda felt the wrinkle form clearer when she heard it. Ma'dri had killed her. Her gaze lowered again, trying to recall. Yes, it was there. The intense was grief, pain, sorrow... there was also a bit of anger there. But the pain and sorrow represented. Far more powerful than either of the other two feelings she was having. Pain was what she felt physically, sorrow was what followed because Ma'dri had been the one to do it. One she had never thought could... despite what Serva said. What did Serva say? The one had led into the other but she didn't know what it was yet. But whatever had come to her mind, was relevant in that moment somehow.

Lauda saw her sister's face for a moment but no volume came along with it and the memory soon perished. She couldn't separate it yet.

The kiss on her forehead distracted her, surprised her even right now. She blinked and looked ahead. It made the wrinkle smoothen and vanish completely from her forehead. Whatever was in Lauda's mind in that moment, Ma'dri disarmed it with her tenderness. An image of herself as a child, smiling widely as Ma'dri hugged her popped to her mind. She had done well in her studies than, she vaguely remembered. Ma'dri had rewarded her by the hug and her approving look. She felt Ma'dri help her then, lay her back down on the metal. Lauda felt herself wanting to resist it but she didn't, surrendering to what Ma'dri wanted. There was familiarity in that. It felt normal.

She would be left alone for a couple of hours. To rest. In that time, she was to recover and perfection was expected. And be ready for tests. Lauda just blinked quietly as her eyes focused on the ceiling. As soon as she was alone, the feeling of love vanished. She was left to herself, to her mind. And the fog began to slip back over her. Images, sounds, feelings. It all hit her like a freight train and her fingers wrapped firmly to the edges of the metal. She felt like she was going to fall off it if she didn't.

So many people rushed to her mind then. Ma'dri. Pa'tre. Antonio. Serva. There was Serva again, that same image she had moments ago. She could hear her talking now but she couldn't make out what she was saying. Then the images continue. So many faces, so many siblings. Nox. Her darling, troublesome Nox that would never learn. The twins that entered their lives over a happy union of her mother and her step-mother Anna. Alistair. Asteria. Her head twitched slightly, there was so much negative surrounding that one that she didn't want to think about it. Morgaine, her head shook without her consent. The sight of little Nessa made her smile though. The one sibling of Pa'tre that was eager to learn their ways.

Memories of pain hit her. Lauda held on tighter to the side as it rushed to her. Joy followed. Happiness. Babies. Mirus. Mira. Her babies. Little La'Ca as she rushed into her life. Celeste. Lauda didn't even realize it at first but she was smiling like a fool the entire time. Her children brought her smiles. Over and over again.

Blade. She sat up straight then, faster than she thought possible at this point. The image of him hit her fast. Feelings attacked her violently. They were all happy but they had come in too fast. "Blade." A sense of serenity followed. That was odd. Her feet hung to the side as her entire upper body focused inward, her mind trying to understand the last sensation that hit her. Serenity. Her head rose slowly. Serenity. Whatever serenity was, it was not in this body. It was peace. Happiness. Quiet. Love. Lauda had been feeling it this whole time. Until the violence hit her, until she opened her eyes, and she was here, now, adjusting. Her hands rose before her and she looked at them. Turned her palms around and then her eyes darted to her body. That was the foreign part of the equation. Ma'dri had killed her. It hurt and it felt like betrayal but then she was happy. Somewhere. Where somewhere was, she didn't have the slightest idea. But Blade was there. She was at peace. She was alright with Ma'dri had done there. She was happy and together with him. It made everything okay. It didn't matter.

Slowly, she slid off the metal. Her hands instantly grabbed hold of the metal bed she was on, holding on to it for support. How long had it been that she no longer could stand on her two feet? How long as her body been resting? Her chocolate brown eyes looked around the room, founding a large piece of metal staring at her. She was staring at herself through it. Mustering up straight, she took a step and slowly let go. Her balance was barely there. She took another step. And then another, until she was finally in front of an improvised metal. Her face was staring back at her. What sorcery had Ma'dri used to return her face to what it was?

Was it even sorcery? She looked around, it was a lab. Pa'tre had a lab, she was in it once. It didn't look that much different than this. Where was she? Was she even in the Castello di Caos? It didn't look like it. None of this looked familiar. Was she even on Dathomir? She couldn't recognize anything.

She moved again, still shaking, each step unstable. But she didn't fall. And the step didn't scare her as much as the first one. Ma’dri was deeply in love… madly in love. She froze suddenly in her tracks, Serva's voice come through. Suddenly, the words weren't muffled. They were clear as day, as if Serva was here right now, talking to her. Because Winter’s training and darkness drove Ma’dri to want more power and strength so the darkness took hold of her. Ma’dri killed Winter in the most gruesome way then multiply it by thousand... she used the force to keep Winter alive as she was skinned. Her head lowered aain as she tried to put the words together. Yes, Serva had told her once. Told her what Ma'dri had done to someone she loved.

Any one that shared a gene with her. She destroyed millions of people lives… Her hand reached out, grabbing the first thing she could find. Lauda felt herself getting dizzy from the words coming back to her. Her eyes closed as she recalled Serva's face, telling her all this. I’ve seen the destroyed planet and its now just chucks of rocks in space. Winter. Yes, her name was Winter. Ma'dri loved her. Serva was scared what would happen if Ma'dri ever lost Anna. Had she lost Anna? Where was Anna? Was she still alive? Lauda tried to recall more but it didn't come right now. Her other hand reached for the object keeping her from falling. Ma'dri had killed someone she loved, killed her entire family, left no trace of the line existing. Ma'dri had killed her. Why did she kill her? Was it because of Anna? Did she then kill Blade and her children? How was Blade with her there? She didn't recall. It was as if they hadn't spoken. As if they needn't need to speak at all there.

She was dead. She was gone. The process of accepting her own death, even the possibility of the why required some time. Ma'dri had killed her. She could recall now how it had done, the scene was becoming more clear. It wasn't just an image and emotions anymore. She didn't keep her alive or skin her, she just killed her. Whatever the reason, that wasn't as extreme. To her own surprise, she had taken in the memory rather well. Too well. She remembered being more upset about it last time. Now, it had brought questions to her.

But what it bubbled down to her was that she was dead once. And Ma'dri had said earlier the word, the one word that definied her. Perfect. It was a word she was created to be, everything she lived up to be. It was all coming back to her, how important that one word was to her. How it defined her. So... if Ma'dri had killed her... she had failed. She was not perfect. She was imperfect. Her fingers wrapped tighter over the object she was holding. She still didn't know what it was, she didn't really pay attention to it. But her grip became harder and harder and she only paid attention to it once the glass within it shattered, cutting up her fingers in certain places. She pulled her hands away then and looked at them. Bloody, glass was still inside. Slowly, she pulled out the shards one by one. It hurt but her mind was so focused on the word that she hardly noticed the pain. Perfect. She had failed. She had failed and she had died. And yet death was rewarding in its way. And now she was back, death no longer giving her that loving peace, happiness. That was the punishment, wasn't it? Not being with Blade anymore... it was punishment.

She was not perfect. She was dead. She was happy. And now she was no longer there. She was punished properly now. Something was building inside her then, Lauda didn't even realize it first, not until it fully grown within her that she had no control over it. The thoughts just kept repeating in her mind. Imperfect. Dead. Happy. Not happy. punished. Over again. And the feeling just kept building. Lauda hadn't even realized she had tapped into the Force, she was calling on it, she was getting angry. With herself. Not Ma'dri. With herself. She was angry at herself. For her failure. For being ripped out from heaven.

And the Rage built to its maximum. He entire body shook. Imperfect. Dead. Happy. Not Happy. Punished. Imperfect. Dead. Happy. Not Happy. Punished. Imperfect. Dead. Happy. Not Happy. Punished. Over and over again until she finally screamed, her palms curling into heavy fists, the blood spreading through her palms, the pain from the fresh cuts intensifying as well. And her scream amplified by the Force. So much that all that glass in the room broke, shattered, broke, all around her. The lights went out. The sound of all took her by surprise. It broke her connection to the Force instantly. She realized only then what had happened, what she had done. It was the first time in a long time that she had used the Force and she didn't even realize it.

But the realization didn't last long. Imperfect. Dead. Happy. Not Happy. Punished. The thought echoed again. Blade's face flashed before her eyes once again but this time, it pushed those thoughts further down her mind. They were still present, somewhere but his face had been balance at that point. If anyone asked, Lauda would swear he had been right there with her at that point. That somehow, she had called him to her when she tapped into Force and he didn't ignore her call, just as he never would. But that was probably her mind playing tricks on her.

The memories that followed were more ordered, gave her a much calmer reaction. She was somehow centered. Her eyes had closed as she welcomed them all, arranging them in her mind, placing them where they belonged. The rage had vanished completely by that point, the memory of serenity guilding her. She was here. She was back. She had another chance to be perfect. She would be perfect. She was perfect. Not even death could harm that. It was what she was made to be and it was what she would be. Her arms calmed and fall to her sides, her palms unfisted. There was blood on them. But she was balanced now, standing. She didn't fear of falling anymore.

For the remainder of the time, Lauda just stood there in the darkness, letting the memories sink into place. All two hundred years of them. Along with all the feelings that came along with it. Her feelings. Part of who she was. And in it all, Lauda realized that she had forgiven Ma'dri for what she had done. In her mind, that fleeting thought had brought it on, it was her fault, she had done this. But the punishment was another take. A do-over.

The door open to a cell. Light flooded into the room which made the young girl scramble on to her feet. The girl was a twenty year old Lauda. The clone was back up in case of failing with Lauda the first time. Petra was set on treating this one like she did with Fabula since it was difficult pulling a person through the force. It appeared the clone was not needed now.

Petra just smiled and firmly said, “It appears you have lived long enough, dear.”

“What?” Lauda clone asked as she was clueless by what Petra meant.

“I have a better test subject than you… and you won’t be a repeat of what my first test subject failed at.” Petra replied. Her hand lifted up and force flowed around the girl’s neck. It was not squeezing at all. The force wrapped around the neck like a turtle neck. Then Petra turned her hand clock wise. The twist pulled on the force and the girl’s neck snapped. She collapsed to the floor.

Petra looked at the lifeless body for a moment. “What a waste…” She said before leaving the cell and closing the door. “But, everything has to be perfect.” Was the last thing she said, then she left to get the clean-up crew to handle the body. It would likely be fed to a rancor. There was no need to waste a body with burning it when it could feed a rancor.

After the situation was handle, the witch returned to her awaken child. Walking back, she saw Lauda standing in the dark as the light from entrance to the lab filled what it could. That was a good sign in Petra’s book. She hit the switch at the door way, and orbs of clear stone began to glow. Thick crystal orbs that had liquid compound in the core; a wire to give it an electrical current when the switch was flipped. The glow was not as strong as the lights; however, it was easy to see the damage.

There was a huge smile on Petra’s face. With a hint of joy in her voice, she spoke to Lauda. “It appears you taken control… Very good… so how does it all feel, Lauda?”

@[member="Lauda Cavataio"]

She heard the doors behind her open. Remaining still perfectly still, Lauda opened her eyes and from behind her a weak light gave a somewhat illumination of the room. It was quite a bit of mess, she could now see. She heard the voice of Ma'dri. It appeared she had taken control. How did it feel?

Slowly, her head turned towards the Elder Witch. She looked at the other Cavataio for a moment before she said: "I won't fail again." There was nothing but determination in her voice at that point. That was decision she made right then and there when all fell into place. That was the outcome of her rage, the decision.

@[member="Petra Cavataio"]

“Very good, dear.” Petra simply said as she walked over to Lauda. Closer to her daughter, she added another comment. “I expect you’ll do even better than last time... Less distractions this time around for you.” That was true from Petra’s view point. She did not want her daughter distracted. The goals she had in mind needed focus and perfect execution.

“Now follow.” Petra ordered as she turned and began to leave. She wanted to be outside as she worked with Lauda and test her. It would be easier out there. Also the stronghold was a ghost town at the moment. It would change, but the echoes of what was there still existed. They were in forms of memories and those would be distractions for their task.

@[member="Lauda Cavataio"]

She remained perfect silent as Ma'dri spoke, taking in the words. Ma'dri expected her to do even better now. There would less distraction. To Lauda, that meant all were gone. All the nearest and dearest. She already knew of one and she suspected Ma'dri considered him to be most distractive. Happy. Not Happy. Punished. Her mind just reminded her again before she heard the command.

Without second thoughts, her mind pushed the dark thought and followed Ma'dri, walking behind her. Barefoot, she minded her step on the way, avoiding glass on floor.

@[member="Petra Cavataio"]

Heading to the valley, the stronghold was clearly empty except for a small handful that might be close to fifteen people. Petra had recently returned to the stronghold and ground work still needed to be done. The others were busy elsewhere in more wings that houses were at. That just made walking through the central section of the stronghold all more lifeless. It was the result of what Petra did so long ago and her daughter with her was one of them.

That was the past for all. The time for looking back was meant for another time. For now, they pass through the ghost town and made it outside. The valley was like the stronghold. There were was a lacking of rancors in the valley. It was once home for the clan’s herd but time changed that. Walking over to the lake, Petra turned to Lauda.

“Lauda… Do you remember the first day of your training?” Petra simply asked.

@[member="Lauda Cavataio"]

On their way out, Lauda took in the emptiness and the age of the place. It told her plenty of time had passed. Too much even. That didn't sit well with her. But she couldn't tell how much time had really passed. Just that it was a lot. She didn't say anything though, her mind translating what her eyes saw into better times, into memories. In her mind, this place was alive, beautiful. It helped guided her.

The sight of the nature outside pushed those memories away. It brought a smile to her face, except, she noticed soon the field below was empty. Her friends weren't there either. Too much time had passed, Lauda realized then. She would have addressed that but Ma'dri asked her about her first day of training. She thought about for a bit, the memories had sunk into place but that was many years ago. She had to remind herself. "My Trial by Fire. My first scroll was of Weather Sense. Then you taight my how to make myself stronger and taught me the next step of Arrows of Fire," she remembered. "Serva tested me then." There was that. And there was also... "You and Pa'tre were both there for that."

“Do you remember that I said you would learn the nature of the force and you would be expected to reach perfection?” Petra asked as she looked over the still water. She wanted to see if her daughter remembered those pieces so long ago. All this was meant to be relaxing. Give them a break, well more to give Petra a break since the fight to get her daughter back was very taxing. One thing was for sure, she would have to teach her daughter how to better hold onto her conscious self in the force if she dies again. It would be easier on Petra then.

"The true nature of the Force," Lauda answered, remembering what Ma'dri had said. "I remember that. Right before I began learning my first spell." And then she nodded to the second bit of what Ma'dri said. She inhaled deep. She remembered that day.

Smiling, Petra reached over and tenderly stroked her daughter’s head. There was a small part in her that missed those days. She might miss them, but the moment now was where she was. It needed to be handled. Her plans had to be moved forward or else there was no hope for a future of her liking. While few thoughts focus on those ideas and desires, she questioned her daughter a little more. “And what is the true nature of the force?”

She responded to her mother's smile and stroke of head with a smile of her own. And then another question followed. What was the true nature of the Force? Back then, Ma'dri didn't say it, she showed it to her, by showing her a simple Force Power, one of levitation or as Lauda later learned, an extension of Telekinesis. But as Lauda learned much later, that was hardly the extend of the true nature of the Force. "The true nature of the Force that it's everything. It's neither good nor bad, it's how we use it. It's Force Powers and Dathomiri Spells and all the other ideologies out there," Lauda remarked all that she had been taught and all that she learned on her own over the years.
