STRENGTHS
  • Cruiser - The Defender II-class is your standard Cruiser with ample armaments and defensive capabilities, with speed and maneuverability befitting a vessel of its size and class.
  • Starfighter Support - To support their role as a patrol cruiser, these vessels were designed with an ample hangar capacity which allows them to house, maintain, and deploy a single wing of starfighters organized into three individual squadrons. Furthermore, these vessels are also capable of supporting and deploying an additional two support craft squadrons comprised of shuttles and unarmed transports.
  • Automation - The Defender II-class was designed so that many of the secondary and tertiary systems are highly automated. This allows these vessels to be rapidly deployed with minimal crew compliments and remain an effective part of the greater whole of the Galactic Alliance Fleets.
WEAKNESSES
  • Fuselage Connector - Located between the forward section of the vessel and the aft section which houses engineering and additional support sectors is a connecting fuselage. This connector serves a similar function as the one present in the Nebulon-B Frigate and similar designs and thus shares a similar drawback. Should this section be heavily targeted resulting in damage or destruction, it would greatly cripple the vessel, rendering it either inoperable or in the worst-case scenario, rending it in two.
  • Automation - Due to many of the secondary and tertiary systems being automated to allow for smaller crew compliments, many of these systems are vulnerable to Ion-based weaponry or attacks intended to disrupt or disable electrical systems. In such an event in which these systems were disabled or destroyed, it would place a greater burden on the crew to maintain the operational status of the vessel, with the potential of rendering it inert altogether.
  • Cruiser - The Defender II-class is nothing overtly special nor does it specialize in any singular aspect. It does not boast an impressive array of weaponry or maintain defensive capabilities that would make a Star Destroyer envious. Nor does it possess the speed or maneuverability of a fast attack craft, it is, as intended by its design, your overall average Cruiser.
DESCRIPTION
The very Stars themselves have shifted as Galaxies converged and collided, resulting in a calamity that has thrown countless Star Systems into Chaos, and as the future hangs in the balance, the need to secure what remains is paramount. The Galactic Alliance remains and has already begun the arduous task of mapping out new Hyperspace Lanes and reuniting the remaining worlds once more to their capitals even as new Galactic Powers rise as the galaxy experiences a boom in its population. With the Deep Core once more in the hands of the Alliance and the core of their industrial production secure, Aether Systems has begun to churn out in great numbers the Defender II-class Cruiser which has begun to be deployed throughout the Alliance to further reinforce the vast fleets.

However, there is nothing that truly causes the Defender II-class to stand out when compared to other vessels or even cruisers of similar size. It does not possess an impressive array of weapons or defensive capabilities that can withstand hours-long engagements. Its speed and maneuverability are on par with most Cruisers and it does not specialize in any one aspect that would make it stand out when compared to other vessels. It is for this reason, its commonality, that makes it truly shine as the Defender II-class is an average vessel that is easily and rapidly produced making it a boon for the Alliance. Furthermore, many of its secondary and tertiary systems are highly automated, allowing for many of these vessels to be deployed with only minimal crews and remain operationally effective. The downside to this, however, is that many of these systems are highly vulnerable to Ion-based weaponry or attacks that are designed to disrupt or disable electrical systems.

As these vessels were designed to provide the Alliance with a capable Patrol Cruiser, the Defender II-class was designed with the ability to maintain, support, and deploy a full Starfighter Wing which is organized into three separate squadrons. Additionally, these vessels are also capable of maintaining and deploying a further two support squadrons consisting of Shuttles and Unarmed Transports. While many of the vessels within the Galactic Alliance Defense Forces boast specialized aspects of focus on a singular area, it is the Defender II-class that will prove to be a strong foundational support to those other vessels and fill in the gaps where specializations may fail. Even as the Galaxy continues its long and slow recovery from the Stellar Convergence, the Defender II-class Cruiser is already proving its worth as one of the newest front-line vessels of the Alliance recovery efforts.
