PRODUCTION INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Data Trawlers are able to collect, aggregate, and exploit unfathomably vast datasets with uncanny efficiency. By using these monoliths of computing, it becomes possible to extract something of value from almost any data, prominently openly available metadata. In addition to more impersonal forms of data, they are well-suited to compiling information from surveillance cameras, communicator signals, and the like for the purposes of unrestricted mass tracking - a valuable ability indeed, for a government that watches its citizens for their own good.
STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES
  • Supermassive Datasets: Data Trawlers are synthetic superintelligences custom-built to process unfathomably vast datasets in order to rapidly extract valuable information. They are perfect for overseeing planetary surveillance states, producing comprehensible results from zettabytes of seemingly unrelated data, and 'trawling' through every kind of publically available information - thus the name.
  • Privacy is Overrated: Data Trawlers are questionable at best from a privacy protection perspective.
DESCRIPTION
Left to their own devices, people often make stupid choices. Some kill each other, some trip and fall and don't get help in time, and some even steal from their employers! A sensible government will do its best to prevent such unfortunate incidents, but action is only possible if you know what it is you want to prevent. It is, in other words, imperative that all relevant data be collected, compiled, and utilised.

For the good of the citizen-consumer, of course.

In this field, the Globex Corporation - whether operating as a government, like on Arcadia, or as a friendly neighbourhood megacorp - is a veritable paragon. An example others would be wise to follow. By obsessively hoarding information on its citizen-consumers, the corporation ensures that its algorithms know them better than they know themselves. All the better to keep them safe and able to make good life choices.
