  • Name: Da Yuan
  • Designation: Sentient
  • Origins: Shuiqui
  • Average Lifespan: 400 years
  • Estimated Population: Planetary
  • Description: Large hair covered simians the Da Yuan couldn’t look more different from other species in the galaxy if they had tried. Large feet which are more capable of grasping onto trees and walls than a humans, a prehensile tail and fur-covered bodies, the Da Yuan are a species of evolved apes that never shed their fur. In fact the only part of their bodies which are free of fur are their expressive faces.

  • Breathes: Type 1
  • Average Height of Adults: 2.5m
  • Average Length of Adults: 1.5m including tail
  • Skin color: Unseen but pink.
  • Hair color: Generally brown or black
  • Distinctions:
No-one could ever mistake a Da Yuan for anything other than what they are, standing slightly taller than a wookie they make for an imposing sight towered head and shoulders above most other species. Their long tails make them unusual on the galactic scene, while not the powerful balancing tails of species like the Barabels or the Selonions the Da Yuan instead had prehensile tails that could be used as an extra limb. Males of the species tend to be larger and more muscular than the females, although both tower head and shoulders over most other species in the galaxy. Unlike most species that populate the galaxy the Da Yuan don’t just have a tail but retain fur covering their bodies much like the Cathar and Bothans. Since most Da Yuan settlements developed near the sea, and trade between the settlements was common the Da Yuan are remarkably homogenous, with marriages between Da Yuan from far-flung settlement’s common.
  • Races: None
  • Force Sensitivity: Standard

  • Strong: Imposing and muscular the Da Yuan are physically a match for almost any other species in the galaxy, able to go toe to toe with Wookiees and Trandoshans alike.
  • Shaman: Unlike the other species on Shuiqui the Da Yuan have no fear of force users and in fact embrace their own who act as priests of shamans for their communities.
  • Fighters: Before the arrival of the Zanshi the Da Yuan lived a peaceful life, rarely resorting to massed warfare. Instead hotheads might sometimes fight, but this was a rarity, the arrival of war onto the planet though led to a change in the Da Yuan society as they were integrated into that of the Zanshi. No longer as peaceful. They proved to be powerful and capable fighters, able to leverage their strength and agility in combat.
  • Agile: Surprisingly for their size and strength the Da Yuan are incredibly agile, a holdover from their evolution. They are able to scamper up and down buildings, cliffs and trees with ease.

  • Senses: The Da Yuan’s ears are similar to a humans, however due to their structure they are less able to hear low-frequency sounds and instead their hearing extends almost an octave above most humans. This means that they’re less able to hear whispers while conversely they are more affected by loud sounds making sonic weapons more effective against them. (source)
  • Playful: As a species, the Da Yuan have always been playful and relaxed, preferring to spend their days playing pranks and enjoying one another’s company. It explains why their society hadn’t moved beyond small communities before the arrival of the Zanshi. Although fully integrated into the planet’s community now the Da Yuan are still playful, and though capable combatants will often extend a fight since they’re playing with their opponent giving them opportunities they might have otherwise not have had.

  • Diet: Omnivores - From the husbandry of the mountains, the farming of the pains and the fishing of the seas the Da Yuan are happy taking advantage of all of nature’s bounty. Indeed, as no village was really more than a short trip from the shore allowing fishing and trade to supplement the diets of the Da Yuan.
  • Communication:
    • Yuan (Native Language of the Yuan)
    • Zan (Language of the Zanshi)
    • Basic
  • Technology level: Slightly above Galactic Standard
  • Religion/Beliefs:Shamanism
    • Unlike the sithspawn that were created on the planet Shuiqui the Da Yuan were the native species and as such had a culture that had been in development long before the Zanshi were a twinkle in their creator’s eye. The Da Yuan had embraced a lifestyle very much in tune with nature, and this was reflected in their religion. The Da Yuan believed in nature and maintaining a balance, approaching life with an almost shamanistic style. They believe balance in all things should be maintained, and many of their beliefs and rituals influenced the Zanshi’s during their development.
  • General behavior:
The village mentality never really left the Da Yuan, and they’ve always been more comfortable in smaller communities than large ones. Partially due to their evolution and culture, the idea of the big cities developed by the Zanshi never truly appealed to them, it is too built up and hard to find nature, plus people tend to have issues with you running on their walls and windows. That isn’t to say that the Da Yuan don’t find themselves in the cities, every major city has a Da Yuan population but the further out into the country you get, into the towns and villages the more likely you are to find a large concentration of them.
Within their communities, the Da Yuan act as any other species. They work to provide for their families and send their children to school. The Da Yuan can be found in all walks of life, from farming to factories and business ownership. Do to their preference for the outdoor lifestyle most Da Yuan remain farmers or fishers, although many find themselves drawn to the military as well.

The Da Yuan were the original species of Shuiqui, evolving on a planet where they had no real competition or predators. By the time Auksifas Kal’Evos created the Zanshi the Da Yuan had evolved to an agrarian culture, but hadn’t moved much past that. They lived mostly in small villages and towns, spending their days farming, trading and playing around...and not much has changed.
The arrival of the Zanshi changed the face of the world, transforming it from an idyllic paradise to one riven by internecine warfare as the Sithspawn fought for supremacy across the face of the world. The peaceful Da Yuan found themselves drawn into this conflict against their wills, the once united people torn asunder. Where possible the Da Yuan continued to trade, continued to live their lives as before, but now trade with certain villages and communities became impossible due to the exigencies of war.
Many of the Da Yuan remained farmers and fishers, though some joined the Zanshi in their armies, rising in the ranks as skilled fighters and combatants. The Da Yuan weren’t afflicted with the Red Eye making them more capable of keeping their heads in combat. For this reason, many of them rose through the ranks of the military to command positions, and from there into the quasi nobility of the city-states and later the empire.

I’m Judah Lesan and I’m here to review your submission.

I am very excited about this species!! Over all great work here. In all fairness Star Wars needs some Kung Fu Primates!!! Everything seems to check out with the template and links. I cannot wait to see what you do with them!

Since I am training this will require a secondary.

Another good part of the Mulan-Wars Saga, though, just a few tweaks.

1.) Image Credit:
I think you meant to link something for "Flag" but there's nothing linked. Please double-check these.

2.) Estimated Population: You don't actually need to keep the "A few groups, often limited to a single world" as it is simply part of the template.

Estimated Population: Planetary (A Large Concentration on a single world or system, rarely found off-world)

3.) Force Sensitivity: You don't actually need to keep the "Every single member is born sensitive to the Force, but lack training. Ex. Neti, Vahla" as it is simply part of the template.

Force Sensitivity: Standard (Some are, some are not, it is neither common nor uncommon)

Tag me when you're ready for me to take another pass.
