SPECIAL FEATURES
- Superconductor
- Superconducting
- High resistance against energy weapons, such as EMP/ion and blasters
- Brittle: it has very limited resistance to kinetic attacks
- Its crystalline structure can be disrupted by sonic attacks, rendering it vulnerable to sonic weapons
- Prolonged exposure to heat can cause it to lose its superconductivity until its temperature drops below its critical temperature
Cuprate is a black crystalline material that is actually part of a wider family of the same name, containing anionic (tri-)copper complexes as with every other cuprate, but in common parlance, cuprate refers to the scatrium-erkinite variety naturally found in Utapau's caves. The main property of interest about scatrium-erkinite cuprates is that variety of cuprate is superconducting and hence can absorb energy-based attacks with limited consequences until its critical temperature has been reached. Once its critical temperature has been reached, cuprate is no longer superconducting until its temperature drops below that temperature, which, depending on how much of each constituent there is, may vary somewhat because there are, in fact, several varieties of scatrium-erkinite cuprates, with different critical temperatures. However, due to its crystalline structure, cuprate is rather brittle and will not resist kinetic or sonic attacks for long. Rumors are that other cuprate sources could be found on other planets in the galaxy but, as of yet, these are still rumors.
