“Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor; it must be demanded by the oppressed.”

[Start of Prologue]

Authoritarianism is autocannibalizing.

The Thilloch family had been in service for the Sith Empire in ages beyond counting. When the first enforcers of the Dark crawled their way across the Rim from their Exile, the Thilloch family was there. When the Sith Empire reared it’s head and challenged not only the Republic but the wayward Mandalorians, the Thilloch family was there. When Palpatine the Great brought back the True Order to the Galaxy once more, the Thilloch family was there. They had always been there, paying service for an ideal that would outlive the very heat death of the Galaxy. There would always be Sith, and with them would be their loyal servants, the Thilloch family.

Authoritarianism is self defeating.

Service to the State, to the Empire, in all of it’s forms. One could have expected that would lead to a life of pleasure, one of nothing but the most patrician of treatments. A light hand upon the leash. That was not the promise that the Dark Side had made to the Thilloch family, and much less to the last born Zrotâl. Why would he be any different? Speak against the wrong man, defend the wrong policy, defend the wrong soul, and the hand that feeds will strike without warning.

Authoritarianism is ensnaring.

Stripped of name, rank, title and creed. Sent to the most dreadful camps that the Sith Empire had to offer. A rare punishment for rare sins, or in this case, a slap across the face of the Thilloch family for daring to raise what was to be a forgotten abortion of the highest social caste. A Sith Pureblood, dead to the Force and it’s mysteries, brought into the familial fold through paper pushing bureaucracy at a young age. He was never intended to be counted among the Thillochs, and with how quickly they bent the knee when the slavedriver came to call his name, Zrotâl was unsure if they would have stood by their original decision to take him in.

Whips, electroprods, and delving into gas choked mines in the dead of night.

Power hungry madmen, raging prisoners, a stray placed blaster pistol.

A shot to the right chest, a call to the dawn, and a rush for freedom.

He still carried the scars of that day, and when he crossed into New Imperial space, the name of those that had forsaken him no longer fell from his lips.

A freed man was born that day.
