Creation of the Obelisk

[member="Kaalia Pavanos"]

Nathema Orbital Platform

Two Silencer-class Dreadnoughts floated by the Nathema Orbital Platform, the shipbuilding and research facility located just outside of Sith space over the dead world that had once been known as Medriaas. On the world's surface, FXR multipurpose droids had been working for months on the construction of a terrifying construct made from the wreckage of the Star Forge. Once complete, the construct in question would serve as a means of returning Nathema to its former state. Well, at least partially.

Vanessa had invited a Sith Lady by the name of Kaalia Pavanos - Darth Avacyn - to join her on board the station as the Ablution and her new escorts travelled along as well. She would need more than herself to empower the Obelisk and make a portion of the world habitable again.

The invitation had come somewhat out of left field and as such caught Darth Avacyn by surprise, but that did not constitute a reason to decline it. Alliances were valuable and this was an opportunity to forge one; it was for that reason she had found herself aboard the Ablution, which itself was preparing to dock at the Nathema Orbital Platform. To make the dead world habitable once again was the reason they were here, a process set up by fellow Sith Vanessa Vantai, who had been the one to invite her here.

While it was common for most in her position to have others in tow wherever they went, Avacyn had decided to simply come alone. The woman had never been one for unnecessary formalities and found having other people join you purely to fulfill whatever order one would give them to be ostentatious and, once again, unnecessary. She would be more than capable to do whatever she needed to do herself.

After spending the tail-end of the hyperspace journey in the chambers that had served as her personal space for the journey, Avacyn had begun making her way to Vanessa shortly after the Ablution returned to realspace. "Now that I have been able to see the planet with my own eyes, I must say this is quite the ambitious project," she remarked as she approached her. "I can see why you requested my help now, it definitely cannot be done by just one being."

"I only want stability for the Empire and to continue the existence of the Sith." Vanessa replied as the Sith arrived. "I control the lives of millions within my sphere of influence, yet I legitimately want them to be happy. To survive. To thrive. After all, loyalty induced by fear will only last for so long. My forces are loyal to me because they know I care about their well-being and desire the best for them." She said. "Nathema is a cursed world. Irreparably tainted by Vitiate's ancient ritual. To ensure that even if someone were to wrought such destruction on this world again, that life would in part survive, this obelisk must be empowered."

She looked past Kaalia, out a window over the planet before her. "Where the obelisk was built is where what little essence of the Dark Side remains. The place where Vitiate committed his first murder. Not much left of his old house but some foundation stones, which I have already removed."

A sigh crossed the Sith Lord's lips once more. "But I've gone on long enough, I'm sure. Let's head to the hangar."

"We all have our reasons for wanting the Empire to prosper. I do too." Avacyn's could be summed up in just a single word; family. A stable empire meant safety for those closest to her, people she would do anything for. "That is why I will gladly lend a hand in making sure it does." This undertaking was yet another step forward and so she saw no reason withhold the help Vanessa required. Returning life to a dead world was a tall task, but that did not change her view.

"Indeed. We have come here for a reason, after all," Avacyn replied as the fellow Sith Lady began making her way to the hangar, she herself walking beside her. "The preparation must already have taken quite an amount of effort. How much do you expect there to be left to do?" Even when the planet was made habitable again, there still would be much left to do. The entirety of the planet had to be rebuilt from nothing before it could be populated once again. That was a project for the future however- the step that had to be taken now was making sure such a thing was going to be possible in the first place.

“I can narrow those reasons down. I want to assume family or close friends’ survival and safety depends on the Empire continuing to function. That, or you have some sort of scheme in play that would be ruined by the Empire’s collapse.” She pondered around her new associate’s reasoning. “I want to say friends or family. You don’t seem like the sort of Sith who goes full-bore into their schemes.” Complete with the backstabbing that usually came out of such a thing. They would soon reach the hangar, a Gypsy-class shuttle awaiting the two of them.

“Well, we do need to craft the ritual circle, for one. I’n not sure how familiar you are with more grandiose Sith rituals, but we must make sure that at the moment our power is focused, every section of the ritual directly forces that power into the obelisk. Only through such focus can we ensure this becomes enough of a Dark Side nexus to sustain the world against any aftereffdcts from the void.” She replied.

As the shuttle took off, Vanessa herself in the pilot seat, she turned to look at Kaalia. “You’re going to want to focus soon. There’s a reason that I have only droids working on the planet. The remnants of the Void cause extreme strain to anyone who goes to the planet. You can overcome this, but you have to focus and not let the Void consume you.”

Although Vanessa was not wrong in her assessment, it did not mean Avacyn would play open book. Even so, knowledge that was vague enough would not lead to any real risks. "There are indeed people in my life who I care for. I want to make sure they have a safe home." It was her family that was the reason she did what she did now; where before she fought to find strength and freedom she now fought to protect what she had.

The two would approach the shuttle and in the meantime Vanessa shared a number of details about the ritual that would be performed. "I must admit that I am not too experienced in the grander rituals. I have practiced them a number of times on a minimal scale, but I am certain it will not be an issue," the woman replied as they went to board the vessel. She swiftly took a seat and awaited takeoff, after which she was informed of the things she would have to expect while on the planet's surface. "Good to know. I have always put value on meditation, it has been a great boon in times where focus is necessary. I will likely need a moment to center myself, however."

“If it means anything, I appreciate that.” Vanessa said. “Back in the day, I didn’t care about the people I probably should have cared about. In the end, I became nothing more than a loner with no one to love or hold close.” She elaborated. “There’s not much I can promise you, Kaalia. But one thing I can promise you is that with your support, should the Empire fall due to infighting, I will do whatever I can to keep the family safe within the territory I will control.”

As they entered the planet’s atmosphere, the tugging sensation of the Void remained. It began to suck on them, tugging at the sensation. “That’s my purpose behind this.” She elaborated, gritting her teeth for a moment. “The Greater Maldrood is not meant to be a conspiracy to overthrow the Emperor. Kaine provides stability and stability is what the Empire needs. But should something happen that removes Kaine from his position, infighting will occur, the Jedi will make their move, and the Empire will practically collapse. I don’t want that to happen, Kaalia. I don’t want to see our latest opportunity to triumph over the light be quashed by foolish powermongers who wish only to bolster their own personal effects. Supporting one another and functioning in unity is key, for without it we are nothing.”

She sighed for a moment, once more grimacing - the pressure of the Void hurt her greatly. “Sorry if I’m going on.”

Deep breaths.

It was something so simple, yet it had always been a boon to Avacyn's focus. While Vanessa spoke she herself assessed that which was trying to pull the very life out of her. It was a powerful force that required much to simply stave it off, but slowly the woman took the first step building a mental barrier. It would be something that was going to take quite some time and even when fully figured out would not make her immune to it by any stretch of the imagination, but it was a necessary thing to even stand a chance.

"It is craving power for the sake of power that has toppled countless empires." Only when power had a purpose did it truly become something greater. It was something so many Sith, past and present, failed to see, but Avacyn knew exactly why she did what she did. "Any collective of beings lives and dies by the fact there is a mutual benefit by banding together. When a reckless pursuit of power without further purpose blinds people, that is when everything collapses. It is because you wish to bring life to a dead planet that I am here to lend a hand. It presents a benefit for all, such things should be pursued."

The two would begin to approach the obelisk, the cue for Avacyn to cut off what they had been discussing. "However, if you do not mind, I would suggest we do what we came for as quickly as possible. This place is not the most hospitable, to say the least."

"Which has always been an issue." Vanessa winced - talking and thinking about other things was how she kept the Void out of her head. "Unfortunately, we Sith seem to consider the benefits of backstabbing one another for personal gain greater than the benefits of continuing to function as a whole." She said. "I'm glad you consider what I am doing to be a benefit - I'm certain there are people who would quickly point the finger at me and claim this is personal gain."

To the last part, she nodded. "Once we get to the surface, approach the obelisk. I will be speaking to you through the Force - we need to be on opposite sides of the construct. I already have the droids creating the ritual circle around it. The intent of the ritual is for both of us to focus the power of the Force into the obelisk directly across from each other, essentially charging it with our power like a battery until it can stimulate the Dark Side Nexus and begin empowering itself. The 'bubble' of darkness that this produces should allow for several hundred kilometers of land to be so tainted, and thus enriched with a form of life."

When the obelisk towered above Darth Avacyn she took only just a fleeting moment to inspect it, then nodded absent-mindedly to confirm she understood what would have to be done. Although the Void pulled away at her she was undeterred as she calmly began to move away from Vanessa and towards the other side of the structure. Balancing channeling her connection to the Force for the ritual and resisting the pull that lusted for her very essence.

"Let us not waste any time," Avacyn remarked for where she was before sitting down with her legs crossed, as though she was preparing to meditate. In the end this would be something similar, and so it would be done in a way that allowed her to tap from the deepest veins of the Force, to shape it to her will to fuel the obelisk.

Vanessa hurredly placed her hand on the obelisk, waiting for Kaalia to get into a position where she would be ready to channel her power. "Now, begin." With that, Vanessa began to focus her own Force power into the obelisk - though nothing as of yet had occurred. The clashing of their energies together would be what empowered this arcane construct, not one mere channeling in question.

"Good... keep focusing..."

[member="Kaalia Pavanos"]

Hands on the cold surface of the obelisk. Eyes closed to retain utmost focus. As the Force swirled around Avacyn, so did the Void and where one had to be channeled, the other had to be fended off. It was a careful balancing act but it was her force of will that allowed her to do what had to be done. Two beings powerful in the Dark side came together to create the conduit that the obelisk required. The first step in a grand plan.

The woman did not respond to Vanessa's words with any of her own, instead simply keeping her full attention fixated on the two things that the nakes eye could not see, yet were among the most significant things in the Galaxy. The Force she could wield, but the Void was unfit to be shaped by anyone. It merely consumed, but consume her it would not. Not on this day.

Slowly the burden of the Void began to cease. Vanessa began to focus more of her power gradually into the Obelisk until she was full-scale infusing it with her power. All the while the Void dissipated and a sense of darkness came upon the two Sith Lords - darkness that would enrich the physical presence of both Sith. How far the darkness stretched, Vanessa was unsure - this was her first time creating such a monolith, and the ritual performed was particularly experimental, but she was certain at least a small town would be able to thrive within the obelisk's protective bubble.

Sighing from how depleted she was, Vanessa attempted to send a message to Kaalia. I... I think we did it... stop on 3, alright? 1... 2... 3.

With that, Vanessa stopped and fall back to the ground, completely and utterly exhausted.
