SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Certain models are further stripped down and feature only the Stun mode. These CR-1-Ss are even cheaper, and safer to boot, the lower power output required making their hazardous construction less of a problem. They still probably shouldn't be wielded by health-conscious organics, however, as the "safety gloves" are still only "semi-reliable", and if you can afford proper protection you can afford a proper rifle.
STRENGTHS
  • Cheaper Than Dirt: Discarding anything but the strictly necessary in the name of cost reduction, the CR-1 is almost unbelievably cheap.
  • Reliable: An added bonus of its complete lack of advanced systems, the CR-1 is practically maintenance-free. As the materials used in its construction are highly resistant to environmental effects, it should also be usable just about anywhere. Just don't go hitting people with it.
  • Ammo for Days: Able to fire continuously at for over a minute and a half without needing to reload, even the worst shot should be able to hit something.
  • Simple: No weapon is truly idiot-proof, but the CR-1 is close. It is practically maintenance-free and has only three interactive parts - the toggle between full and semi-automatic, the toggle between stun and lethal, and the trigger. The toggles are even colour-coded, so as to be easily understood by the illiterate.
WEAKNESSES
  • Hazardous: Among the "unnecessary" parts removed is heat regulation - making it positively scorching to the touch during anything but mild use - and karking radiation shielding. The tridurium frame keeps it safe for bystanders, but firing one of these things without protective equipment is not exactly healthy.
  • Explosive: Just as dubiously, these rifles have a tendency to explode if shot - as TriTech, in its wisdom, skimped on its power generation as well, these explosions are usually not all that impressive, though more than enough to take off a few unprotected fingers or even a hand.
  • Mediocre: The CR-1 is, simply put, mediocre. It has a lower rate of fire than most assaults rifles, lacks the easy movement of carbines, and most certainly does not pack the punch of, say, the Autokrator. Not to mention its complete lack of accessories, including a damn scope.
DESCRIPTION
As the time to unveil a new line of security droids approached, TriTech found itself in an unfortunate situation - they had supplementary law enforcement equipment in place, but a rifle, a simple blaster rifle, was as of yet absent. Seeing as their previous partner for the Xerxikeen project, Jaeger Solutions, was not exactly known for their cheap products, TriTech decided to apply its own engineering expertise to the task, having previously designed integrated blasters for smaller production-scale battle droids.

The end result of this was the CR-1, literally Combat Rifle One. A thoroughly unimpressive weapon, it is nonetheless very reliable and very, very cheap. Perfect for an army of disposable droids, if less perfect for, say, a bunch of conscripts.

As an afterthought, TriTech simultaneously began selling complementary "safety gloves" for a few credits - designed to allow one to hold the sizzlingly hot rifle during continuous fire and keep cancer cases to a "reasonable minimum", the pairing quickly became a "good enough" alternative for corrupt planetary governors and criminal gangs.
