STRENGTHS
  • AR-0B Damage Reduction Armor Component - A common feature that is often installed on vessels produced by Von Sorenn Industries, this component maintains an ablative current that courses through the hull plating of the vessel. This current assists in reducing damage to the hull by removing harmful particles and debris - while also providing an increase in longevity to the hull plating.
  • Galaxy Guard Mark VII - An additional system often installed on vessels produced by Von Sorenn Industries, the system itself is utilized to provide additional support to a vessel's standard Deflector Shield Generator. The system achieves this by providing additional endurance and range to the shield, further enhancing its protective capabilities.
  • Maneuverable - While the vessel is focused on a higher speed to ensure that it is capable of matching or keeping up pace with more nimble Starfighters, the Coru-class is also a highly maneuverable Corvette comparable to other Corvettes of a similar size and class. This ensures that it is capable of matching rapid maneuvers that Starfighters are known to be capable of executing.
  • Speed - With its primary focus being that of an Anti-Starfighter Corvette, its design sees the vessel relying heavily on its speed and is often capable of matching speed with some of the fastest Interceptors in the Galaxy. It is also capable of outmatching and out running from larger, much slower-moving vessels - while also capable of outpacing similarly sized and classed corvettes.
  • Anti-Starfighter - Its primary role is that of an Anti-Starfighter Corvette, specifically intended to provide a screen against Starfighters and Bombers for larger vessels such as Cruisers and Star Destroyers. To this end, it is equipped with weapon systems that assist in this role - and is capable of handling a single squadron without assistance - depending on the size and composition of the said squadron.
  • Weapon Hardpoints - While the vessel comes equipped with a standard loadout that is considered to be its Factory base - it is capable of being modified to an extent. This modularity is seen in its hardpoints that allow for the replacement of the vessel's weapon systems - allowing for it to fill a separate role than that of Anti-Starfighter, wholly dependant upon the weapon systems being exchanged for an appropriate loadout.
WEAKNESSES
  • Anti-Starfighter - The bulk of the vessel's weapon systems and capabilities are to ensure that it can match Starfighter and Bomber Squadrons with ease; however, this means that it is otherwise incapable of standing against larger vessels. Though potentially capable of withstanding a fight against a Corvette, it is otherwise incapable of standing against even a lightly-armed Frigate.
  • Limited Firepower - A drawback is seen in its weapon loadout - being that it has limited firepower compared to other Corvettes and smaller vessels. Though its weapon systems fit the role that it is intended, its limited firepower often causes it to struggle against larger formations or when swarmed.
  • Ventral Defenses - With much of its weaponry focused on the dorsal section of the vessel, limited defenses are available for the ventral portion of the Coru-class. Much like the larger Infernex-class Citadels, the Coru-class - though not entirely defenseless - is much less defended in this section of the vessel, often requiring it to rely upon other vessels for added protection.
  • Swarmed Defenses - Though the Coru-class is capable of withstanding the assault of a Starfighter or Bomber Squadron - depending on the composition and size of the squadron in question - it can just as easily be overwhelmed in the event that it is swarmed by multiple squadrons. This can easily see the Corvette overtaken by concentrated firepower or assaults by larger groups of Starfighters.
  • Exposed Bridge - The location of the bridge sits forward on what can be described as a command module located at the top of the vessel, sitting between its four heavy laser cannon turrets. This location - while intended to provide a better view for the bridge crew - leaves the bridge itself highly exposed and easily targetted. The ultimate removal of the bridge would render the vessel completely inoperable - render a drifting hulk of scrap in space.
  • Limited Firing Arcs - The Coru-class is equipped with a series of heavy laser cannon turrets - however - these turrets are limited in the direction in which they can fire. This can at times limit the vessel's capabilities if those facing the vessel are capable of taking advantage of these limited firing arcs and slipping between or under them to avoid the weapon system's fire. While its primary weapon maintains a three-hundred sixty-degree firing arc, its laser cannons are limited to a roughly forty-five degree firing arc.
DESCRIPTION
There will always be a need to ensure that the larger warships that comprise the vast fleets locked in a nearly endless conflict are protected from smaller more agile vessels, starfighters, and bombers. To this end, the Coru-class Corvette was designed to fulfill the role of an Anti-Starfighter Corvette - positioned near larger vessels, either deep within massive armadas, or at the very fringes of a formation, the Coru-class focuses on screening enemy Starfighters and Bombers away from larger vessels. As a means of accomplishing its primary directive, the Coru-class was designed with speed and maneuverability in mind, though this has come at the cost of more limited weaponry to reduce the weight and overall profile of the vessel. Capable of catching up to and maintaining pace with agile Starfighters - its defenses and armaments are more than enough to ensure that it can withstand the barrage of a single squadron - depending on its size and composition - without further assistance. However, it should be noted that the Coru-class can also be quickly overrun and succumb to what is in effect, swarm tactics - as, without additional support or assistance, larger squadrons or multiple Starfighter or Bomber squadrons can easily overcome its defenses.

Though it maintains systems that provide additional defensive capabilities, such as damage reduction components for its armor and a system that provides additional endurance to its shields - it lacks defensive capabilities along the ventral side of the vessel. While not completely defenseless in this area - it is much less defended, making it a tantalizing target for those that notice this flaw. Likewise, an additional drawback to the vessel is the limited firing arcs that its laser cannon turrets experience - only capable of firing in a roughly forty-five-degree arc when compared to the three-hundred sixty-degree arc of its primary rail gun turret. Of its multiple strengths and weaknesses, its greatest comes in the form of its hardpoint system - a feature that permits the vessel's weapon systems to be swapped out and exchanged so that the Corvette can meet other needs and fill other roles - though its defensive capabilities still render it incapable of standing toe to toe against larger Frigates or vessels.

All in all, the Coru-class Corvette succeeds in its primary role as an Anti-Starfighter Corvette - and though incapable of withstanding conflict with larger vessels - its primary focus ensures that it is often not without backup or alone in any one fight. For even though its crew embarks on an endless vigil, they are not alone in facing down the darkness. These vessels are being seen more and more frequently in Wild Space along with the likes of such vessels as the Kes Harpa-class Frigate and as of yet unnamed vessels, all bearing the marking of the Lastwall.
