Cold War?

So this is something that was just brought to my attention today from the OS admins. They want to try and shift things between our factions into a Cold War scenario, similar to what was occurring in the Old Republic.

I wanted to hear from the faction what your thoughts are before saying yea or nay as this is a far-reaching decision that impacts the entire faction. With that, the poll here is to determine what everyone wants and this thread is for those who wish to discuss the idea. Please keep it respectful though.

Thank you.

I don't trust the OS administration on an OOC level, so I'm not sure a Cold War type scenario is going to work out for us. Not that a continued 'hot war' would be any better for us, but still. To my understanding, they're the biggest gamesman-shippers on the board. They wouldn't be in favor of it if they didn't think there was some way to turn it in their favor in a big way.

So I'm gonna go with 'no'.

Let's get down to the brass tax here, folks:

  • We have fought in 10 invasions. We have lost 10 invasions. Including out capital city for THOUSANDS of years, Coruscant.
  • Our Faction is kind of in a rut right now and we need time to get ourselves together before we should even CONSIDER going back at it with the Sith.
We DESPERATELY need a break from this war so that we can regroup. If not we are going to keep losing and before you know it we are a minor faction because we can't hold our ground in invasions.

Many of you do not trust the Sith on an OOC level, but I do. I have a very good working relationship with many many Sith and I know they have wanted this for a long time.

This is equitable to mercy. So the choice here is clear: burn out every last resource we have or take the time to step back and reevaluate ourselves and regroup.

The one stipulation I have is that the IC leadership sign an armistice.

A Cold War would mean we would fight each other in the shadows and in smaller engagements, sort of like the CIA and the KGB in real life, so fighting would still be occurring just not massive invasions

To be clear: if an armistice is reached officially IC and any Pubs are caught violating it the Sith will be completely within their rights to resume the war.

Not to mention it would be pretty much illegal for the Republic. That's how treaties work.

Seems to me that a decision to reignite the war should be a faction-level decision like this again on either the part of the OS or the GR. Not a unilateral IC move written by regular players. Of course our members shouldn't be stupid and take a Republic fleet to Coruscant or something like that, but we should probably make sure this OOC agreement has enough leeway for story to occur IC.

Having been part of the Republic for a long time, and having participated in 3/3 of the last Republic invasions with this character I am very much in favor of this.

A Cold War very much gives the opportunity for new stories, new plans, and new plots. A big part of RP that's never really been done for either side is covert operations. For those of you who played SWTOR you'll know what this could be like. Proxy Wars fought on planets, covert operations to blow up Sith Facilities, spy games, disavowed agents who do what they need to get things done.

This can spawn AMAZING stories and threads for everyone involved in the Republic.

Jedi can focus on the re-building and building of new temples, as well as counter acting Sith Influence on Neutral worlds.

Senators can focus on their stance in the war. Try and influence the Republic to get back in the fight, write bills to aid Republic allies that are fighting the One Sith, attempt to solidify the armistice into a lasting peace.

Military members can tell the story of how uneasy they are, how they're developing weapons for that "inevitable" confrontation. How they're conducting covert operations to still fight the Sith.

A whole new class of roleplay can be spawned because of this, and sure you can make the argument that the Sith will use this downtime for some nefarious plot, but you have the same down time. The Republic will have the time and freedom to plan and do other things which this faction desperately needs.

Please do not count this invasion, the Admins of the Republic ruled it an instant lose before it even started because it would be cool for story, and didnt tell the member base till after there was no actual reason to try and fight back. Sooo ya.

Anyways, i already told you on how i feel Taeli, so excuse me while i go annoy Genevieve with my violin some more.

My issue is Darth malgus used this to attack the jedi in the past. I know my jedi padawan won't abide by it forever. And if the Republic jedi decides their not gonna fight a foe who really honestly won't holds to it's treaty it's as i see it gonna cause a rift in the order again!

Uuuuh whomever told you that is completely 100% wrong.

Please don't spread misinformation like this. Coruscant was absolutely not a pre-planned invasion and a lot of people, including myself, worked and fought very hard to get that victory.

Well if the Jedi are going to repeat history I might suggest some of us prepare to run off into hiding. Cause well honestly it's the SITH! If we wanna get wiped out again fine but let the old tired masters all get wiped out as they seem dead set on it. I don't see how this helps us as it lets our foe regroup as much as us.

During the Cold War between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire from SWTOR, a Cold War that lasted quite awhile mind you, there were constant violations and attacks from both sides. This is a not a technical treaty nor will it prohibit assaults on our enemy. It involves proxy wars over planets, shadowy strikes on key targets, espionage, and all that wonderful spy stuff and the Jedi would be taking part in that.

It also gives us the chance to rebuild what we honestly need to rebuild, which is member activity, so saying in a way we are repeating a history were the fight continued, just not on a full scale way.
